Notes
- Warning: Please read this article regarding first use.
- Caution: All surfaces are hot and can cause burns.
- Environment: This machine is intended for home use only. It doesn’t have the capacity, nor the approvals, for commercial use.
- Upon receiving: Elektra informed us that every one of their home machines is tested with water and coffee to insure there are no leaks under pressure and to insure proper operation when received by the customer. Although they clean each grouphead to the best of their ability, you may find some coffee grinds in the grouphead or on the machine when dislodged from the grouphead during shipping.
- Some assembly required: The steam needs to be installed on the machine using a wrench. To prevent scratches, put a cloth between the wrench and the steam wand nut.
- Boiler pressure: The normal operating boiler pressure read on the gauge is between .75 and 1.2. However, the manufacturer has been asked for machines produced in the USA to set the maximum pressure to approximately 0.9 so the most flavorful espresso can be extracted. Over time, the manufacturer’s setting can change as the machine ages. In addition, if the boiler pressure reads 1.4 and up to 1.5, this is a symptom of limescale buildup from calcium/magnesium in the water or oxidation from purified/RO water. In this case, the machines will need to be descaled and the pressurestat will need to be replaced after the descaling. Limescale buildup or oxidation can occur in as little as 1 week from use.
- Water choice: Please note that it is very important to use ‘softened water’ in these machines, as well as all espresso machines. Hard water will cause these machines to malfunction, and Elektra will not cover the parts warranty due to hard water. In addition, it is extremely important to run the a leva and Semiautomatica machines with water at least 25% full in the sight glass. Running these models with a water level lower than this can cause heating element damage which will not be covered under warranty as this is not a manufacturer’s defect. If you return the unit with a damaged heating element, you will be charged for the repair, and the repair charge will be deducted from the credit.
- Body finish:
- Elektra espresso machines feature a high polish finish, with materials ranging from chrome to copper to brass. Most parts are clear-coated. Special attention is required when cleaning.
- Hash products can eat away at the clear coat or even etch the chromed finish.
- Descaling solution can eat clean through plating.
- Paint remover can be used to remove the paint from copper and brass parts.
- Elektra uses varnish to paint the parts. The exterior color, which includes a clear coat finish, will naturally change as each each Elektra machine ages. This would not be covered under warranty as color changes are not considered manufacturer’s defects.
- Sight glass fluctuation: The water in the boiler is not used to make coffee. The water to make coffee comes directly from the reservoir and passes through a pipe in the bottom boiler for flash heating. If cold water passes through this pipe, the change in temperature will cause the boiler water (sight glass) to fluctuate. The only time the water level in the sight glass should change is when the steamer is used and the water level drops, or the red button on the left hand side of the base is depressed and held to refill the boiler.
- Safety reset: There is a safety feature on this machine when water is not pumped into the boiler on initial startup. If this isn’t done the safety kicks off and the machine will have to be reset. On the bottom of the machine underneath the yellow cap there is a reset button for the safety thermostat. If you purchased the machine from us and are still having issues, you can email us for instructions.
- Americanos: This espresso machine is NOT suitable for making americanos since it does not include a hot water wand.
General Espresso Machine Notes/Warnings:
- Upon first use (tank/reservoir models): On the initial start-up (or after a long period of non-use), it is important to make sure the pump is removing water from the tank. When the machine is powered on, you will hear the pump running. After 5 seconds, squeeze the in-line hose in the tank (usually the longest hose, has a particle filter attached). if you hear a different sound, this means the pump is working correctly. If not, immediately power down the machine and contact us. For more information, visit this page General Manual Pump Priming.
- Electrical: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. Without the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat, or the wiring inside. For more information, visit this page Power Protection.
- Water: To increase the useful life and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled, purified, or reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale. For more information, visit this page Water Choice.
- Descaling: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. Too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine. As a preventative measure, we recommend using softened water as explained in the bullet point above.
- Backflushing: This procedure of cleaning the grouphead will need to be performed from time to time. For more information, visit this page Espresso Machine Backflush – Why 50?

Water reservoirs should be drained and cleaned every 2 weeks. For this machine only, a non-abrasive sponge with a mild dish soap should be used then rinsed thoroughly.
The COLD boiler should be drained through the steam valve after removal of the wand. Fresh water should be pumped in immediately, upon power up to avoid damage to the heating element as exposure ot air (not enough water in boiler) can cause it to be damaged (not covered under warranty).

Q My machine is Year+ old. Too much water in steam. Not enough pressure to get nice crema answer nowAsked by on November 24, 2025 12:44 pmA My Elektra isn’t heating. Last year it didn’t heat because I didn’t have enough water and it popped the circuit. It was an easy fix. This time the machine won’t heat and it’s not the same as before. Is there anything I can troubleshoot? How much is a diagnostic visit?
We are having 2 problems with our machine. The first is the steamer output is VERY wet, producing a lot of water along with the steam. It accumulates over an inch of water in a large mug over approximately 30 seconds. In this scenario, the machine had been on for more than 2 hours. This is a recent change in performance. A second concern is the pump will sometimes make a ‘knocking’ sound while pumping. This is also a recent change although it does not do this every time.

The only way the steam wand dispenses too much water is the boiler is overfilled with water. The boiler is filled manually by the user as there is no pump, nor circuitry, to fill the boiler where the steam comes from.
Now, you may have a boiler refill valve that has limescale or particles keeping it open, and when the pump is engaged for the grouphead/espresso extraction, the boiler is is getting overfilled.
The noise being heard when the pump is activated may be the boiler overfilling and the safety valve opening.
It maybe time to perform a descaling.
I have an 18 year old ElektraSemiautomatica. So far, excellent machine, a few problems turned out to be much smaller than originally thought - for example: when it would not heat, I replaced the boiler, then the thermostat, and was about to put in a new P-Stat when I noticed a single wire with an odd kink. 3 major component, weeks waiting on parts ordered one at a time, all because of a broken wire. So, I come asking advice first this time: machine turns on, heats, boiler fill works fine ( pump comes on, fills tank, solenoid closes well. But when I try to make espresso, No water comes out. I hear the solenoid click loudly when I press brew button, but no water. I know the brew switch needs replaced because it t will not hold ( push in, it will not stay on, only pumps as long as I am pressing, it no longer clicks on, but as soon as I release, I can hear a hiss of escaping steam unless I quickly press again for a second. And I can press it I once to start the almost brew and then push the boiler refill and it will pump espresso- not good espresso, but I get some out of the group head. Are there two solenoids? What do I check? Can a bad brew switch cause this issue?

Thanks for the details inquiry. We recommend the following:
a) replace the machine as it is past the useful life, even to Elektra's standards, and/or
b) have a qualified professional repair service evaluate the machine. Since it is over 10 years old, it should be professionally evaluated as it may not be worth the repair.
Please understand this request is beyond the scope of our free services to start advising and troubleshooting.
I need some advice. I have a 2006 Electra semi automatica. When I turn it on the boiler heating light illuminates, but the machine will not heat up. I had reset the thermostat at least I thought I had and same result. It’s 18 years old with its original heating element so I ordered a new heating element and gasket, installed those, it still won’t heat up. Probably should’ve done more troubleshooting before ordering the boiler, but now it’s in there and hopefully this one will last 18 years. I just realized that the Brown reset button on the thermostat doesn’t click doesn’t stay in it just flops about push it up and it will fall back down with gravity. You can wiggle it back-and-forth. It does not click. It does not reset. Is there a way to test this or based on what I’ve told you is testing completely unnecessary? I just want my espresso machine working again. If it’s a thermostat, then it’s a thermostat, but I had three suspects boiler thermostat and pressure. I started with the most expensive, and that was not it. So I’d rather not make the same mistake a second time. Thought I would ask before I ordered the part, and how long should I expect the pressure stat to work? There’s a part of me thinking just get both of them and be done.

I purchased Elektra MicroCasa Semi Automatica a couple of years ago and I have an issue with my steam knob - it gets deformed from heat. It's my third knob. I can send photos. Someone else appears to have a similar issue. Do you have a resolution to this? Keep buying these knobs doesn't make any sense because they melt in a few weeks anyway.

Hello, I have a Microcasa Semiautomatica that was made in the last three years. It seems that I need a new pstat controller as the machine is overheating (once you turn it on, the boiler never turns off). This is my second Microcasa that has had this problem. I am a bit confused about what may have happened because I have exclusively used distilled water in the machine and maintain it well. I would appreciate it if you could provide your thoughts and the part that I want to order. Thanks!

My Elektra Microcasa Semiautomatica SXC seems to have developed a microscopic boiler breach near where the water entry pipe enters the boiler. (White minerals form in this spot, and when cleaning them off you can spot a tiny hole.) Is this something that can be repaired, and what would be the best way of going about it?

We would need to see pictures or evaluate the machine in person. The white stuff is limescale, and this is why it is important to treat (soften) the water.

the canister that contains the coffee (# 28 in your parts diagram) did not fit any more once the machine heated up. I tried inserting it part #21 when it was cold and it fit, but when the machine heated up part #21 rim cracked. I need to know how much it is to fix, parts + labor . thank you

Please always reference the part numbers, not the listing number. There are two #28 on the diagrams. Unfortunately, we do not offer quotes until the machine is fully evaluated by one of our technicians.
Since I bought this espresso maker from you in 2007, I’ve probably used it less than a dozen times (not in the last few years, though).
I filled the water tank, turned on the power button and the water boiler supply button for a few seconds, but didn’t see any water rising in the sight glass. I immediately turned the power off since I didn’t want to overheat the heating element with a probable empty boiler.
What do you think the issue is - a stuck solenoid due to not using it for so long, or a pump with bad seals due to age? Even though the pump ran, it seemed to be a little noisy, but since I haven’t used the machine for so long, I don’t recall what a “normal” level of noise is.
I’d sure like to get this machine operating again, and am committed now to use it at least weekly.

Considering the age of the machine, it probably needs a new pump. However, we would need to evaluate the machine once it gets here.
Is it possible to install a temperature gauge near the portafilter? Sense the Electra semiautomatic only has a pressure gauge for the boiler and no temperature gauge near the portafilter, is it not useful?

I am having difficulty getting a good seal around the coffee grounds holder. I've tried maybe 10 times and only got one successful cup. Water and coffee grounds are coming out. I've carefully cleaned the area, the coffee is ground for an espresso machine. I've had no problem operating more simple espresso machines at home before. Can you direct me to instructions for doing this?

Read more answer nowAsked by on September 11, 2020 7:38 pmA There are three things that can cause this. The first is too much grounds in the portafilter. If that's not it, then - the next one is that the gasket (the rubber that is supposed to rest against the portafilter ("coffee grounds holder") ) can come slightly unseated making it hard to turn the portafilter in enough to get a good lock. Sometimes just massaging it back into place does the trick. If this doesn't work, then the gasket might need to be changed. The group head (the piece the portafilter attaches to) is quite easy to remove -- there are three allen bolts above it. Removing this makes it really easy to clean and reseat the gasket.

I believe I have a problem with my new SXC semiautomatica.
As the machine is heating up, just before the pressure gauge goes
up (as the steam is building up...the time when the machine makes its normal hissing/thump sound),
steam begins to come out between the boiler and the water reservoir, and leaves a significant amount of moisture
hanging from the underside of the boiler. The steam continues seeping out until the
boiler reaches full pressure.
I have had two older SXC models years back (2003-2007) and they did not have this
issue. Also, I have a friend who recently purchased a 2018 model and his does not have this problem
but now this is my second machine purchased recently (both 2018 built models)
and they both have this same problem. Is this a defect?
Could it be simple as tightening a valve within the boiler casing?
I have pictures to better show my issue. If possible, please let me know if I can post or
email them to you.
thanks for your help!

This is normal as the vacuum breaker/bleeder valve open and relieve the vacuum steam pressure. If the part has limescale (which can happen in as little as two weeks of ownership) or there is too much water in the boiler, this valve will take longer to close up. It closes up as soon as there is enough steam pressure to close it. Limescale will not allow a good closure and the machine may release steam after partially closing.
Hello, I purchased an Elektra microcasa semiautomatica last June. I have a few issues that I have contacted Elektra about, but they have not returned contact. My steam knob sticks on first turn.....I know this is not normal as this is my third SXC. Also, my machine is a 2018 build with the limited beechwood handled portafilter. The angle/pitch of this portafilter is different than the original, which makes it very difficult to lock in to position. The machine is obviously still under warranty, so I would like to know who to contact to replace these parts.

Sorry to hear this. Elektra was on holiday for 3 weeks for the holidays as is customary in Europe.
The dealer you purchased from is the responsible party for handling any warranty issues. This process is also customary with European manufacturers. Unfortunately, this is not like the mass market machines where there is one warranty service center.
If you purchased from 1st-line Equipment, please use the contact us link on the top of our web site to have the issue handled. If you purchased from another store or dealer, please contact them directly as they are responsible for handling issues.

Best to pass white vinegar through it to the top of the boiler. Then rinse. Try to not use a descaler as the harsh chemicals can cause more hard, than good.

Sorry, we normally do not stock this part. The reason is that it can be very expensive and usually when a boiler needs to be replaced, there are other components that need replacement. In this scenario, the cost of the repair can become close to the price of a new machine. Hence, the boiler becomes a special order.
Please use the contact us link on the top of our web site to start the conversation with respect to pricing and timeline for a special order. The part number is 02965021 and the Elektra Semiautomatica espresso machine diagrams should always be referenced.
Hi,
I bought an Elektra microcasa semiautomatica from you a few years ago- love it. Recently the pressurestat died on it. I bought a new one from you and it worked fine for a few days, then the pressure would spike. I dialed back the pressure set screw which seemed to help for a few days, but the unit overpressurized again today after warming up. After brewing two coffees, the pressure seemed to settle into a normal range. Do I have a bad pressurestat or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Patrick

You may have the overpressurization caused by a different cause that replicates itself after changing the pressurstat: limescale.
If the first pressurstat overheats, the unit should be fully descaled and rinsed before installing the new pressurstat as the limescale contaminants for sure will create the same issue of overpressurization in as little as a few days.
It is best to descale the machine as soon as possible.

Hello,
I bought an Elektra micro casa semiautomatica from you folks about a year and a half ago. Great machine- I have two espressos nearly every day. Works perfect, and I clean/backflush regularly.
This morning though, something is amiss. The machine heats up fine and the pump works (doesn't sound strange) but it's only pumping a dribble of water.
I've backflushed, and even with the portafilter off and dispersion screen removed, the water flow is very slow. Trying to fill the boiler is similarly slow.
As I said, the problem came on suddenly- yesterday the mahine was operating perfectly.
Any troubleshooting ideas?
Many thanks,
Patrick North

Please descale as limescale may be affecting the pump. Otherwise, the pump may need replacement if the descaling does not work.
