Lelit PL41TQE Anna PID Espresso Machine
Single boiler, dual-purpose system:
- Brass – The small 250 ml boiler helps keep a constant water temperature and facilitate the espresso coffee extraction.
- High wattage heating element – 1000 watt heating element for quicker reaction time when cold water enters the boiler.
- Very quick warm-up time – We clocked the warm-up time for this machine (this includes the grouphead and portafilter when locked in) to be ~10 minutes. This is mainly due to the high wattage of the heating element and small size brass boiler. We found this to be very convenient for morning warm-ups, especially when in a rush.
- Security thermostat and security valve – For better pressure control.
- Three-way solenoid valve – Allows immediate removal of the portafilter immediately after the espresso extraction has ceased (or when the pump switch in coffee mode is turned off).
PID display:
- PID display – Allows the temperature of the boiler to be programmed for different coffees.
Steam/water wand:
- Multi-purpose – Used for both steam or hot water depending on the current mode.
- Multi-directional – Enables you to prepare creamy cappuccinos.
- Very short wait time – The small boiler and high wattage heating element, combined with the PID controller cuts the wait time from coffee to steam considerably.
- Polymer tubing – The tubing that connects the boiler to steam / hot water valves are alimentary. They can withstand high pressure, withstand high temperatures up to 620 °F, facilitate easier repairs, and most importantly, are limescale free.
Construction:
- Stainless steel body and frame – Polished to a mirror finish and rust-resistant.
- Water tank visibility – There is an opening on the left side of the machine that allows you to see the water level. This is a lot easier than opening the top cover and peeking in.
- Drip tray – The tray is made of plastic. The cover is made of stainless steel. Both are removable for easy cleaning.
Accessories included:
- Portafilters – Dual spout portafilter.
- Filter baskets – 1-cup filter basket which holds approximately 7 grams. 2-cup filter basket which holds approximately 14 grams. Pod filter basket for use with E.S.E. pods. 57 mm in diameter.
- Tamper – A cheap plastic tamper. Manufacturers will normally include a tamper like this to keep the overall selling price of the machine low. We recommend upgrading to a better tamper.
- Coffee scoop – A simple plastic scoop if you are using preground coffee.

Espresso Machine Warning:
- ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. the lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat or the wiring inside.
- WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
- DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.
- WARNING: This is a single boiler machine. Machines in this class do not fill the internal boiler from the reservoir automatically. Since the water level drops in the boiler during steaming, you need to replenish this to avoid damage to the heating element. The only way to do this is to run water through the steam wand with the hot water switch. This does not apply when extracting espresso.
- Cleaning: The best thing is to run descaler like normal through the head as well as through the steam wand. This should be performed once a month. This is the minimum requirement for cleaning the internals of the machine.
- Use with pods: This machine is pod-capable. Please note though, shots from pods will never be as good as a pod-only machine and the pod use on this machine will not be as good as fresh consistently ground coffee used on this machine.
- Similar Lelit models: Just to prevent any possible rumors, we are NOT clearing out any PL41 inventory for the PL51 model made by Lelit. We will not be carrying the PL51 machine as we do not like the cheaper switches placed on this machine, plus the fact that there is no three-way solenoid valve (good to have as this allows the user to immediately remove the portafilter right after turning off the coffee switch).
- Maximum pump pressure: 15 bar (hint: a machine only needs 9 bar of brew pressure for an espresso extraction. Anything higher is only a gimmick started by different manufacturers many years ago to attract sales. Since a few manufacturers do this, many have followed suit).
- PID flucuation: Please note that during an espresso extraction, the incoming cold water will reduce the temperature in the PID display. This is normal. In steam mode, the temperature shown on the PID display will be higher than the programmed temperature.

I've got a Lelit PL041 (the original version, bought from 1st-line a good 13 years ago). I finally did some deep descaling and in the process the boiler developed a leak. That leak appears to be coming from the seam between the two halves of the boiler. I'd like to investigate and potentially replace the boiler o-ring. But after removing the boiler from the machine (again), I'm completely unable to separate the two halves of the boiler. Are they soldered together in addition to the o-ring? Do you have tips for how to separate these halves to get to the o-ring?

At this point, we would consider the boilers seized. The leak is from an opening created by limescale which is holding the 2 halves together. In 99% of cases, the o-ring will not solve the issue at hand. Consider 13 years of use as a great investment. Sorry for the bad news, but it is a road of reality we have seen before.
I have a PL41QE, about 10 years old (I think), that is leaking over the filter holder a few seconds after I start pumping. I recently cleaned the unit and replaced an old rubber seal with a new silicon one your sent me. I don't think I'm using too fine a grind and I don't think I'm making too tight a puck, so I'm baffled at why this is happening. Can you help? The coffee starts coming out nicely for a couple of seconds, then begins running over the holder, I'm guessing after the pressure builds up further. My pucks are very wet when finished.

I bought the Ana PL041QE in 2010 and it has been working great since then until recently. It has started making a rattling/puttering sound when pumping the espresso out instead of the steady humming sound, and there is also a longer delay before the espresso start to come out of the carafe. Does this sound like the pump is going out, and if so is there a replacement that I can get for it and how much does it cost?

This can be a pump issue or a grind issue. This ULKA pump can be used as a replacement.
