VBM Domobar Super Vibration Pump HX Espresso Machine – Tank

Overview:

Sold at 1st-line since 2006, the VBM Domobar Super Vibration Pump has consistently outperformed many competitive models (sold by us and not sold by us) in terms of reliability and performance. With the least defects on a percentage of machines sold, we knew at that time there were several reasons for this!

In fact, other manufacturers started to utilize a similar restrictor in the thermosyphon tubes (2 tubes running from grouphead to boiler) to better regulate overheating of their E61 groupheads. VBM did this from the start to enhance their espresso extraction performance!

Most other manufacturers are using smaller tubes (which tend to create greater overheating of the grouphead). However, VBM still uses 10mm inside diameter/12mm outside diameter thermosyphon tubes. Also, more metal means more cost here. Less metal means less cost for a manufacturer. No skimping by VBM!

Another reason for reliability is the position of the electronics. Down in the bottom rear of the machine – away from the heat of the boiler! Couple the large boiler with high output steam wands, and this machine froths milk in a jiffy. In fact, VBM will not place the so-called no-burn steam wands for 2 reasons. First, they slow down performance to froth milk. Second, they have silicone inside the pipe which sometimes tends to create foul odors.

VBM has the most robust E61 grouphead in the industry. Hands down. Customers who see E61 espresso machines in person tend to gravitate towards the VBM’s due to its robustness and structure.

All in all, the high quality construction makes the next step up a commercial machine. ALL STAINLESS BODY AND CHASSIS – NO BLACK ENAMEL PAINTED FRAME THAT CAN CHIP OR RUST! If you can fit this machine in your home and office, you will not regret purchasing this unit! We don’t as we use the Super HX machines for catering events up to 250 people! Now, that’s performance!

Features particular to the VBM Domobar Super Vibration Pump

  • Gorgeous polished stainless steel body panels.
  • Small lever on side of grouphead allows user to engage/disengage pump and three-way manual solenoid valve to start/stop espresso extraction.
  • Manual three-way valve below grouphead allows removal of portafilter handle from grouphead immediately after espresso extraction stops.
  • Insulation on inner wall between water reservoir and internal boiler.
  • The electronic brain unit is located on the bottom rear – away from heat that rises from a hot boiler and that can damage electronics.
  • Easy self-repairable (some skill needed) as this machine is one of the easiest to diagnose and self-repair (saves on shipping!)
  • 41-watt vibratory pump (“vibe” pump) goes up to 15 bar with air valve bypass – please note that only 9 bar is necessary for espresso. Do not be fooled for machines with higher pump pressure as one is only creating too much UN-needed pressure on the internal system.

Common features across all Super Espresso Machines

  • Heavy duty VBM ‘true’ E61 grouphead maintains active flow of water from the grouphead to the heat exchanger in the boiler.
  • The heat exchanger allows you to make espresso after espresso until water reservoir is emptied – plus with the larger boiler, you can steam milk at the same time.
  • Professional grade brass portafilters – one portafilter with single spout and single filter basket and one portafilter with dual spout and double filter basket.
  • Boiler pressure gauge to indicate boiler pressure (reading will vary between .8 and 1.2 bar pressure). The setting can be varied by adjusting the full size pressure-stat through the access port under the cup warmer tray on top of machine.
  • Pump pressure gauge to indicate brew pressure during espresso extraction (reading will vary while not extracting – this is normal).
  • Multi-directional stainless steel steam wand on left side can go in different directions.
  • Multi-directional stainless steel hot water tap on right side can go in different directions.
  • Power indicator light on right side indicates when the machine is powered on.
  • Heating light on left side indicates when espresso machine is heating.
  • Low water level light in middle indicates when water level in water reservoir in rear is low.
  • Three-stage power switch allows user to fill internal boiler without sending power to the heating element (prevents damage upon initial start up).
  • Full-size pressure-stat (rated as one of the best boiler pressure regulators) monitors boiler pressure.
  • Extremely large stainless steel drip tray which can be easily (slides out with pull of handle) removed for cleaning. Grate stays on machine when pulling out drip tray so that it is one step to empty.
  • GICAR branded electronic water level control for internal boiler is located in lower right rear corner of machine where there is least heat build up.
  • Largest OPV (over pressure valve opens when too much pump pressure exists) located in rear of machine with easy access when body panel and six (6) associated screws are removed.

Accessories

  • Single spout portafilter, single dose filter basket, double spout portafilter, double dose filter basket, blind filter basket for backflushing, plastic coffee scoop, and a common useless plastic tamper (please make sure to order a good tamper).

Espresso Machine Warning:

  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. the lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat or the wiring inside.
  • WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
  • DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.

  1. No burn wands: We have decided to NOT offer no-burn steam wands because the typical internal diameter is about 50% less than a normal steam wand, and this usually affects performance times in steaming. In addition, the grouphead has a much greater area to get burned.
  2. Some assembly required: Feet are not attached to the machine.
  3. 220 volt: Sorry, 220-240 volt units are not available for ordering.
  4. Service notes:
    1. Backflushing: This machine should be backflushed minimum once every 50 espresso extractions using Ascaso Detergent (our instructions included with purchase). This is only for cleaning the oils from the grouphead.
    2. Water Usage: We prefer one uses softened (not just filtered) water to prevent limescale build up. Descaling really is for internally cleaning of the machine.

Warranty Information

Who handles the warranty

Eligible warranty for Vibiemme home equipment is handled by 1st-line Equipment or representative thereof. If you have purchased your Vibiemme equipment from another retailer (not 1st-line Equipment), you must contact them first in order to get your equipment serviced under warranty.

What does the warranty cover

The warranty is limited to manufacturer’s defects only.

Regarding espresso machines: Limescale buildup can lead to problems with your machine. The warranty will not cover any repairs if our technicians find limescale in your machine. Although descaling can be a good alternative to remove limescale causing minerals (calcium and magnesium), we strongly suggest that prevention is the best form of maintenance. The reason is that descalers can cause wear and tear on components inside an espresso machine. This includes gaskets, o-rings, and other metal components. However, where there is a clog somewhere, descaling will be a necessity on the specified part, area, or entire machine.

Regarding coffee grinders: As with all coffee grinders, it is very important to only change grind settings when the unit is powered on and the burrs are in motion. If you do not do this, the burrs will ‘gunk’ up and require cleaning by you every time this occurs. Changing the grind settings when the burrs are not in motion will render the grinder to only produce very coarse grinds or no grinds at all. If this result occurs, this will be considered operator error for lack of following directions, and not be classified as a defective grinder.

When does the warranty expire

The manufacturer’s warranty on new equipment is good for a period of 1 year from date of receipt which covers parts. Labor warranties may vary depending on the company you purchase from. Vibiemme products may have an extended warranty limited to manufacturer’s defect and will specifically state the extended period of time on your receipt.

Where will my equipment be serviced

In most cases, your Vibiemme equipment must be sent to a repair facility. If 1st-line Equipment will be servicing your equipment, you must either ship it or drop off at our facility in New Jersey.

How do I send in my equipment in for repair

If you are inside the warranty period and have purchased it from us, please contact us. Please be ready to provide the following information: invoice# of purchase, model of equipment, and a detailed description of the issue.

If you are outside the warranty period, whether you have purchased the equipment from us or not, please order a diagnosis. Please note that wait times can be up to 8 weeks. Our technical support staff can have a back log of repairs. As an alternative we have a listing of 3rd party repair companies across the USA that can assist you.

I recently installed the digital grouphead thermometer in my Vibiemme Super Domobar (over 10 years old, from 1rst-line) and was surprised to learn that the grouphead was running quite hot-- upwards of 98 C. Previously, without the thermometer I thought the boiler pressure gauge, which read a tad over 1bar, was indicating my brew temp was OK. (Note -- in all of my testing with the grouphead thermometer I have the portafilter with double basket installed but no coffee puck.) I started turning things down by rotating the pressurestat screw clockwise, and did this a bit at a time, and full turn or more and let the unit stabilize for 15-30 minutes each time before taking more temp readings. It took me about 4 hours to get things close-- I was shooting for 92 C during the brewing cycle. I overshot low initially so temps were down in the 80s, then I slowly got it back. Currently the unit is sitting at 91.6 and when I start the brewing cycle it heads up to 93.8 ( again, no coffee puck-- just portafilter and double basket ). I think I can probably make some final adjustments and bring it down a little more. My question is regarding the pressure for this temp. Now that I am in the low 90s the pressure gauge rarely goes higher than 0.6 bar. I thought that I should be seeing about a bar to give these temperatures. Am I missing something? Is there any chance that something isn't working properly on my Vibiemme? Pressurestat? Pressure gauge? Or is this performance expected? I use the machine typically only once per week, for 2-4 espresso shots with steamed milk Sunday mornings. I descale once a year, and clean with the blind basket plus cleaner once ever few months. Otherwise I do just the blind basket cleaning before shutting down, with a portafilter brush

This is expected as many people know the E61 groupheads do run hot and require cooling flushes. If not steaming mil, than the machine be left as is. However, if steaming, the pressurstat needs to be raised and a cooling flush is needed.

    2. I descaled my machine over the weekend, a process which requires that I disconnect the autofill water level sensor wire from the boiler connection end. After descaling, I reconnected this autofill wire and have checked to ensure a secure connection on to the boiler end electrical nipple, however the machine now behaves as if this wire is not connected, as the boiler pressure valve now spits and streams water once I turn the machine back on and wait a few minutes for it to heat up. How do I fix this issue, as I have descaled this machine multiple times since I purchased it from you, following the same process per the instructions, and have never had an issue? Has some other part now worn out?

Either wire in internally broken, brain unit is bad, or probe is bad.

    4. Was troubleshooting this machine a lot this weekend, and now have discovered another problem. I was checking out the overpressure valve (OPV) to see if it might be the cause of my drop in pressure. After putting it back together, noticed that the pump was not coming on for a few seconds after placing the switch in position I like it used to. I disconnected the wire from the boiler probe and with the wire disconnected and steam valve open the boiler filled. It took almost half the reservoir to fill the boiler though. So, the brain unit does not seem to be able to sense that the boiler is empty. I checked the impedance on the boiler probe (boiler is full now) and am getting 11 megaohms. Is this likely to be the brain unit or boiler level probe? EDIT: After all of my troubleshooting, it seems that the problem is the Sirai pressure switch. No matter how I adjust I can only get 0.4 bars of boiler pressure. I see pressure switches on your site, but they are 30A. Mine is a P303TO2 20 amp switch. Do you have this part?

Sorry for the delay. Unfortunately, when machines get older, there are scenarios that require a professional to determine the multiple issues that may be going on and these scenarios are beyond the scope of free Q&A technical support.

Position I does not always engage the pump to refill the boiler as it depends upon how much water evaporated. When removing the wire on the refill probe, of course the boiler will overfill and take a lot of water out of the reservoir.

A After all troubleshooting I decided to replace the boiler pressure gauge. Now it is reading correctly. I troubleshot everything else on the VBM I found nothing wrong. Got some help on coffeegeek.com that led me to the real problem: after years of use, my grinder finally got so bad that I could no longer grind coffee suitable for espresso. So, replaced burrs on my grinder and now am getting much better results. Now I am considering getting a new grinder and an espresso machine for my son. But, since I waited weeks for a response from you and ultimately had to go to another source for help, why should I buy anything else from 1st-line? Thanks, Andy
    6. We bought a VMB VBM Domobar Super vibration pump HX from you a few years ago. It has been broken for two years now, and I have decided to buckle down and fix it. It is: Group 1 Serial No xxxxx. The pressure is dropping to around 6 bars during the brew process. The pressure is 10 bars when I use the blind filter, but when the machine tries to pump a volume it can no longer maintain pressure. I did a de-scale with Ascaso coffee washer and the discharged water was a light blue. It took several flushes after the de-scale to get clear water. The de-scale seemed to improve things a bit, but still the machine will not generate full pressure with flow. How can I diagnose this further? Can I get a copy of the piping diagram for this machine? Also, will you have the replacement parts to fix this?

    10. Jim, I bought a Vibiemme Super Domobar HX Semiautomatic from 1st Line in 2007. I have been repairing and maintaining it myself and it's still running strong after all these years. I was wondering if I can add a brew grouphead pressure gauge into the screw hole on the front of the group head on the Vibiemme? I see you sell the Lelit PLA2400 Grouphead Pump Pressure Gauge Kit. Would one that would fit the thread on the Vibiemme? If not, any ideas?

Answered by the admin The machine should be cold. Start with the steam tip and make sure holes are clean. Next remove the pipe and make sure it is clear. Unwind the knob all the way out, then while holding the valve body, loosen the nut nearest to the knob. If the entire valve spins, the copper tube behind the valve will spin and damage! Once the entire knob assembly is removed, check the end cap gasket. It is stuck inside. If not, then you have a blocakge in the copper steam pipe inside the machine which would need to be cleared. Otherwise, you machine is not producing steam.
    18. When machine is on for first hour, it pulls shots beautifully although the Brew gauge hold steady at 12 bar which is way to high according to your manual. After the machine is on for an hour and I try to pull a shot, the brew gauge needle goes up to 12 bar, the shot starts to pull but then the needle rapidly drops to next to nothing as does the shot. Is there an adjustment that needs to be done with the pressurestat? What is happening?

Sounds like a grinder or preparation issue. Use a blind filter and test the same way. If the blind filter shows consistency, then we know it is not the machine. Remember, HX machines need a cooling flush to get out the steam built up in the heat exchange tubes.

    20. I recently performed a replacement of the screen and rubber seal in the brewhead with the replacement kit. While at it, I also removed the grouphead upper cap, cleaned it, replaced the screen and a washer. Removed the side cap to the brew head as well. Cleaned, new seal. Now, there is no water coming out the pressure on the right gauge shoots all the way up to the major red zone. Spray continues to come out of the steam wand. I did a complete tear down then of the entire brewhead, removing from the machine, cleaning everything I could and then re-connecting it all back up. Same thing. I know water is coming into the brewhead and getting plugged. After I let the machine cool down, I loosened the group head upper cap and steam and water shot out—it still had pressure. So, it feels like the water is coming out of the pipes to the head and then blocked. Machine is 8 years old.

With machine cold, remove the top nut on the grouphead. Inside there is an orifice (nut with a single hole) that is removed with a 7mm socket wrench. Once removed, descale the orifice and make sure the pin hole is clear. To put back, tighten gently with a socket and then only 1/8th turn to tighten. If you over tighten, there is a high chance the entire grouphead needs to be replaced. Reassemble and test.

    22. I have an earlier version of this year (purchased from you in December 2008). It has been run using reverse osmosis water exclusively since I purchased it. It just started with an unusual problem: (1) When heating up, the green light above the Set button blinks; (2) when it reaches full heat (e.g. the amber light goes off) after a few seconds, the green light stops flashing; (3) Only then can I push the button for pulling a shot; (4) If the shot finishes before the amber light comes back on, all is well; (5) If not, the pump activates refilling the boiler and the pressure drops precipitously and the green light begins blinking again. I know that I am outside of your 10-year guideline, but was hoping you might have some suggestions for troubleshooting. Many thanks.

Sorry, there may be compounding issues here beyond the scope of our free service. Problem areas: limescale in machine, vacuum breaker valve sticking, loose or bad wire, brain unit starting to become defective, or bad indicator lights.

    24. I have a VBM Domobar Super semi-automatic that I purchased from you in the 2006-2007 time frame. Except for a heating unit that burned out about 2 years after purchase, it has had no issues. All of a sudden yesterday, the green light above the "set" button began to blink during the heating cycle. It goes off after the boiler has reached temperature and the heating light goes off, but then it comes back on during the pulling of a shot. When that happens, the pressure drops suddenly and the pump stops working. The other thing that happens is the pump for filling the boiler will run in a very short burst during the time the light is blinking. The machine has had nothing but reverse osmosis water from day one. I understand your 10-year support policy, but any thoughts for troubleshooting would be most appreciated.

4 ounces of hot water should be removed from the water wand every day. Milk can siphon back to the boiler after steaming on any espresso machine.

Steam will always look clean because the steam exits from the top of the boiler, and hot water exits from the bottom of the boiler where the contamination lands.

The water for the grouphead comes from a separate pipe that runs through the boiler on this heat exchanger espresso machine.

Please purchase a SCACE device to properly diagnose temperature. Sorry, Instaread thermometers capture ambient temperature and there is no restriction of water flow when tested in this fashion. Unfortunately, without a SCACE device, increased water flow increases the drop in temperature. Without the SCACE, we have seen temperature drops as low as 160 d F.

Please unplug the machine from the outlet and let the machine fully cool.

Remove the top cover and reservoir, remove the 3 screws on each side of the body panel, remove the 2 screws found on the top and bottom of the reservoir platform. Remove the tank spring platform. Take pictures of the 3 wires on the switch under the reservoir. Loosen the nut on top of the reservoir platform holding the switch. Usually 2-3 revolutions. Tighten the nut under neath closest to the platform.

Re-assemble. Test. Repeat if necessary. The tank should shut off with a minimum water level of 25%. The reason is that if there is an optional water softener attached, the pump can suck in air and other damage can occur.

Please find the correct diagram. After finding the switch, please search it on our web site and then match the description and picture of the part you need.

Sorry, we can not offer a direct link because there can be one of three switches under the platform over the years. The above procedure will help you order the correct switch.

    38. I have a Vibiemme Domobar Super, purchased in 2006. In 2014 I brought it into your shop to have the pump replaced, and descaling. I recently (few weeks) noticed when I move the brew level to position #2, there is delay before the pump starts up. Today the pressure gauge was fluctuating while brewing. (see video: https://youtu.be/cpw4Ar1KuOU ) When I called, I was informed you prefer not working on 10+ year old machines so I’m hoping you can point me in the right direction. Could this be a signal that the pump needs replacing again, or is it more of an electrical problem? What can I try to troubleshoot the problem?

Thanks for the inquiry. Although great to hear that your machine has had some great use, we are sorry to hear about the current issue. First, as the call center advised, technical support inquiries for equipment outside of warranty need to be asked here as a machine purchase years ago, nor a parts purchase, can no longer support a technician on staff today, We also want to build a knowledge base because today's issues may happen tomorrow or in the future.

Second, as far as your issue, do you really mean the power switch in position 2? The lever on the group is not numbered. If the power switch, yes there can be a delay or even normal is no pump action at all. It all depends how much water your boiler lost when it cooled down.

If you are referring to the lever on the grouphead, then there should be no delay on the pump. This can be a pump, brain unit, or lever switch issue. A mulimeter would be needed. However, considering the age of the machine, a professional may be needed to evaluate it. The brain would need to be replaced to see if it was the brain.

When referring to the brew pressure changes, this is usually a coffee grinder issue on a newer machine. On an older espresso machine, it can be the coffee grind, the pump, or the OPV. To test the pump, put a blind filter in the portafilter and see if it goes to 8-9 bar. If it does not, then there is prolly an issue with the pump as long as no water is coming out of the OPV. If the OPV has water coming out before 8-9 bar, then it may be leaking.

As you can see, you may have compounded issues, and this is why we recommend a service professional to evaluate the machine.

    40. Hi! I just purchased a used Dobomar Super/Lever/HX SR# 55780. I think the original owner may have purchased from you? The unit heats and brews well and im enjoying it! But, there are a couple of oddities that I am looking for help with and I’m pretty sure I will definitely need to purchase some parts from you. (1) The Brew Pressure gauge, while pulling a shot immediately jumps to 10 and then rises to 12.5. Also, steam pressure is alway 1.5 - 2 (seems high to me?) (2) When the brew level is moved from position 1 (closed) to 2, it does not allow passive water (pre-infusion) unless i push past position 2 just a little more... just before the cam engages the pump.... at this point it will allow water to pass for pre-infusion. (3) The brew pressure will rise on its own when the lever is in position 1 (closed)... sometimes reaching as high as 15. Or immediately after pulling a shot, and the level back in position 1, the brew pressure will rise on its own. The only way to get the pressure to drop is to move the level back to position 2 and get the "passive" water flow... so i kind of jiggle the level. The same thing happens during first heat up as well. So I need to fully open the valve and then jiggle the lever at position 2. My thought is that the internals of the grouphead are gummed up (never properly descaled) and "sticking" and the o-rings/gaskets need to be replaced? I guess the group head would need to be rebuilt?? I would like to know if you can suggest a parts "package" with all of the typical parts needed for this? Im mechanical and can do it myself (and enjoy working on it). I really appreciate this Q&A and look forward to hearing your response!

      (1) The Brew Pressure gauge shows the result of the grind in your puck and the OPV seems to be set at 12.5. The pressurstat needs to be adjusted for the steam as it is too high.

      (2) Normal on some years.

      (3) The brew pressure should only be read during extraction. Outside f extraction, it should not go past 12 br. This means you have underlying issues from too much scale, a damaged heating element, or a damaged pressurstat. The machine should be evaluated by a professional when this many potential issues.

      4) Part number F15 and F277 should be puchased on our web site

    42. I own a Domobar Super HX purchased from 1st Line in 2008. It's run perfectly since that time but recently stopped heating water. I just removed the cover and checked the resistance of the heating element. It measures infinity which I gather means it’s rusted out (or otherwise failed) and needs replacement. Questions: 1) Based on the resistance measurement, can you confirm the status of the coil? 2) What’s the cost of a replacement heating coil for this model? 3) Without deconstructing the machine, it’s difficult to get a wrench on the element with sufficient leverage to get it to move. Is there a secret to removing the element? Thank you.

The coil's resistance should be in an acceptable range of 8 to 16 ohms. We have seen some operate correctly as low as 6 ohms and high as 20 ohms.

For the part, it is always best to check the Vibiemme parts diagram, back out to a page with a search field, and then search by part number on the diagram. Please note we try to update our diagrams when the manufacturers alert us, but sometimes they do not alert us in a change of the part (look, description, or picture), the part numbers, or other stuff. Hence it is best to look at the pictures of the part on our web site to confirm it is exactly what is in your machine. For example, sometimes a manufacturer may change the posts of the heating element and not say anything.

It is best to use a socket wrench with an extension to remove the heating element.

    44. I have a domobar super, mfg in 2008. It sits unused, for a few months each year. Never had a problem before, with start up afterwards. Today at start up, pump seems to make reduced noise, and only a trickle comes out of the grouphead. Steam works and hot water works. When I activate ( lever) , the pressure jumps to 10 bar+ and holds. Have just backflushed with descaler for 3 minutes . At about 3 minutes, pump got very quiet, and pressure dropped, to a little below 10 bar. I released pressure and pump noise resumed. Most of the descaler is still in the blind portafilter. Not sure if I have completely eliminated the possibility of a bad / failing pump. What can I try next ?

Inside the top nut (mushroom) on top of the grouphead, there is a gicleur (with a pinhole) that is probably clogged and needs clearance. Witht he machine cold, remove the mushroom and check inside for the gliclear (usually 8mm socket wrench with extension bar needed to remove) for deep descaling and cleaning.

We are sorry to hear this. The problem could be bad wiring, a bad heating element, a bad power switch, a bad brain unit, or a bad safety thermostat. Most of these parts (exception brain unit) will need to be checked with a multi-meter for continuity without the wires connected. Of course, the machine needs to be unplugged from the electrical power outlet before any testing.

Unplug the machine. Check your water level. Check the switch under the water tank platform for any burned wires. Press down on the platform for the reservoir and listen for the click of the switch. Check wires by heating element and throughout the machine for any burned wires.

If you know how to use a multimeter, check the ohms on the heating element with the wires unplugged. It should be between 8 and 20. If you are very experienced and assume all responsibility for any and all damages as well as personal injury to any person, you can check voltage to the element. If you do not have knowledge on how to do this, we advise to never check voltage.

Other than this, the board or power switch may need to be replaced. Sorry, these are more complicated procedures and out of the scope of our good will and free support.

    52. Dear 1st line, I purchased an earlier version of the vibiemme domobar super around 10 years ago from you. (the automatic model with the center button between the meters). I undid the valve on the wand and everything is clean so assume the problem is closer to the boiler. What would be your advice? Thanks, Mark

Thanks for letting us know how long your Vibiemme espresso machine is lasting. We always see very good track records with the Super HX models.

As for your issue, there may be scale build up at the hot water valve pipe connection at the boiler. With the machine unplugged from the outlet and the water reservoir removed, take off the 6 screws to remove the body, then tilt the machine so the left side (facing front) is laying down on a towel.

Follow the pipe from the hot water valve, and loosen the holding nut at the boiler. Then with a crescent wrench holding the outside of the valve by the knob, loosen the inner pipe connection on the inside wall of the valve. Do hot allow the pipe to twist. Inspect the pipe for clear pass through. Next check the inside of the boiler through the open port hole - changes you have some crud or limescale that needs to be cleared.

At this point, you 'can' pour some descaling solution into the boiler through the port hole and re-connect the pipe in reverse of removal. Check for leaks. We would suggest removing the tip on the hot water wand when descaling in this scenario as we want to avoid big chunks of limescale damaging the screen inside the tip.

The Vibiemme double boiler is a different espresso machine model.

    56. Hi, I purchased this machine from 1st-Line last year. Overall, really love the machine. Unfortunately, recently I started experiencing the following issue: when I start pulling a shot, I can hear the pump working at first, as it gets the pressure to the 9-10 bars limit, and then the pump just stops (the machine goes silent, but stays on). At that point, the only thing that works is If I raise the Lever back up which allows the excess pressure to be released via the 3-way valve as it normally would. After that, I can try to restart the brewing process as sometimes this problem behavior repeats itself, and sometimes the machine works as expected. I shot a short video demonstrating this behavior using a blind filter basket here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRFOfJH2w3E&feature=youtu.be the video shows 2 attempts with the first one succeeding (pressure builds up to ~11bars and you can hear the pump working until the brew group is shut off) and the second one (starting around 0:11) showing this problem where the pump goes silent once the pressure reaches the 10bar limit) Thank you

We suggest running a descaler through the grouphead without the blind filter and then with the blind filter to see if the problem resolves. 3 cycles of 30 seconds for each above, then 3 cycles of same for rinse.

When a pump reaches over 10 bar, we usually consider this normal operating condition, and it is normal for a vibration pump to hum when the pressure gets high. Typically, when pumps fail, they have no pressure at all. Hence, it can be the OPV. Try the descaling and see if there is an improvement. If still an issue after, please email us the purchase information.

Sorry, it can be any of those parts, and the machine, at this point would need to be evaluated by a profession, or you can start  with a pump replacement first, then OPV.

Since you seem to have the electronic model with the 5 push buttons (as this one has the green light) you may also have a bad flowmeter, as well. The only way to determine a correction is by parts replacement as there is no test for the flow meter or the wire or this one.

The average lifespan of a vibration pump is about 5 years. To test, put in the blind filter into the portafilter, lock the portafilter into the grouphead, and engage the pump by lifting the lever up.

If it reaches over 8 bar consistently after the initial 10 seconds, then the pump is ok. If not, it could be a bad pump, or the OPV is blocked in the open position, or the grouphead has a blockage. Once these are clear, you can test the pump again with the blind to confirm it is defective.

AT this point, with the blind, run a descaler with the blind for 30 seconds, then let sit for 20 minutes, then repeat twice. This descaling

Thank you for selecting 1st-line for your machine. This sounds like the gicleur in the mushroom located in the top of the grouphead is clogged - usually clogs on any E61 grouphead that sits for more than 2 weeks or the water is hardened with magesium or calcium.

Steam boiler turn off. We suggest running a descaler only for 3 minutes. Let sit for 10 minutes and try again twice. If it clears, then rinse for 3 minutes on and 3 minutes off.

If this does not work, please review grouphead diagram and then the mushroom needs to be removed and the gicleur needs to be removed and cleaned manually.

We are sorry to hear about this. Usually, a surge in the electrical current or water can cause this. Sometimes, if the machine is older, this can happen.

We are sorry to hear about this. The machine would need to be unplugged from the electrical outlet. Then the body panel removed, and finally a multimeter would need to be used to test the different electrical components for the fault. An inspection of all wiring and components is in order, as well.

We are sorry, but we do not offer any training on multimeter usage. Hence, if one does not have this knowledge, it is better to check with someone who has or hire a professional for the diagnosis and repair.
