If you own a VBM Domobar Super Digital or Electronic, you may experience an issue with the touchscreen:

- where the touchscreen occasionally “skips” one or multiple steps
- stuck on a menu screen
- stuck on the open “VBM” screen on startup
This is most likely caused by a loose wire connection inside the machine. Before you start opening your espresso machine, there are a few simple things to try.
- When you first receive your espresso machine, it will usually have a clear plastic protective cover over the touchscreen, as pictured above. This cover is designed to protect the screen from potential scratches during transit. While many customers choose to leave it on, over time it may cause unexpected “presses” or inputs on the touchscreen. If your machine still has the clear plastic cover, remove it and try using the touchscreen as normal.
- Dust, dirt, or oils can also affect touchscreen operation and may cause unexpected “presses” or inputs. Using a clean, soft, dry microfiber cloth, gently wipe the touchscreen to remove any dust, dirt, or fingerprints. Then try using the touchscreen again.
If neither of these steps solves the issue, please follow the steps below.
- First, power off the machine and unplug it. Parts of the machine, especially the internal components, can become very hot during operation. To reduce the risk of burns, allow the machine to cool completely before opening it.
- On each side of the machine, there are 4 screws (8 total). Two of them are Flathead screws, and the other two are Allen key screws. Once all the screws are removed, the whole wrap-around body should easily slide out.
- From the side near the top front, you should be able to see the touchscreen wire connection. However, the side opening is very small. Also, it is surrounded by insulation. For better access you need to move the inside panel that the water tank sits on.
- On the top panel, there are two Allen key screws that need to be removed. There are also two additional Allen key screws near the bottom of the back of the machine. Once all four screws are removed, the entire inner panel can be shifted and rotated to provide access to the touchscreen wire. Be careful when moving the panel if the water tank is still in place.
- You will most likely see a sheet of insulation that helps protect the wiring from the heat of the boilers. This should easily slide out of the way. Once moved, you should see the touchscreen wire connection. Try pushing the connection firmly together, as it may have become loose.
- Now plug the machine back in and power it on. Test the touchscreen to see if it is still skipping. If the touchscreen is functioning normally, reassemble the machine.
