Overview
Elektra Microcasa a Leva S1/S1C/S1CO Espresso Machine
If you want exceptional espresso and an espresso machine that makes minimal noise in the morning, then you found the perfect machine – the Elektra Microcasa a Leva Espresso Machine. Although some people will contest that it is more difficult to make espresso with these lever machines, this is really not the case because the spring in the piston makes consistent pump pressure at each point from one pull to the next. Once again, for exceptional espresso, choose Elektra!

Features
Spring Lever Espresso!
- Spring piston-operated grouphead: Lever starts in the upward position, the user pulls down against spring until coffee fills the bottom of your espresso cup, then the lever is slowly released and the spring in the piston pushes the lever to pump the water through the coffee grinds. If making double, it is important to pull the lever down a second time at the halfway point and released.
- Brass piston: While other machines may have plastic pistons in the grouphead, the Elektra Microcasa Leva has a brass piston to house 2 piston gaskets. Plastic pistons can get brittle and crack over time with all the heat in the grouphead whereas the brass piston in the Elektra is a great add-on to maintain heat within the grouphead.
Single Boiler System
- Durable brass: Provides exceptionally dry steam for creating micro-foam.
- Water level sight glass: This indicates the level of water in the boiler. Helps when filling the boiler to prevent overfilling.
- Armor-plated heating element: Rated at 800 watts. In 2017, we have asked Elektra to program the steam pressure to rotate below the green zone to lessen overheating of the grouphead and not burn the espresso grind on extraction.
- Pressure Gauge: Shows reading of steam boiler pressure only. Standard pressure can range anywhere between 0.8 – 1.1 bar. Upon opening the steam valve, the pressure can drop as low as 0.5 unless continuous open to open air. If higher than 1.3 bar, there may be limescale in your pressure stat causing an overheat situation and leading to 1.5 bar..
- Boiler pressure relief valve: This is located on top of the boiler for safety. It will open at approximately at 1.5 bar, unless it is fouled up with scale and hence needs replacement.
- Internal pressure regulator: The pressurstat automatically regulates the temperature.
- Built-in safety thermostat: Assists meltdown if left without water – please note that you can still damage the heating element if the machine is run dry (without water).
Beautiful Design
- Handcrafted finish: Each Elektra Microcasa Leva is carefully handcrafted which makes each one unique. Available in 3 different body color variations/plated finishes: Art.S1 is copper and brass, Art.S1c is all chrome, and Art.S1CO is chrome and brass finish.
- Hand crafted polished chrome eagle: Sits on the top dome. Our units have the eagle with wings UP!
Large, round base: Approximately 10″ diameter. This helps keep the unit steady when pulling the lever down. - Drip tray: Easily removable from the base. The finish of the grill matches the finish of the boiler.
Accessories Included
- Filter baskets: 1-cup filter basket and 2-cup filter basket. 49 mm in diameter.
- Portafilters: Dual spout portafilter. 49 mm filter head. Bakelite handle if you select the chrome or chome/brass version. Wood handle if you select the copper/brass version.
- Tamper: Plastic tamper.
- Plastic scoop: If you are using pre-ground coffee.
- Instructional manual

Notes
General Espresso Machine Notes/Warnings:
- Upon first use (tank/reservoir models): On the initial start-up (or after a long period of non-use), it is important to make sure the pump is removing water from the tank. When the machine is powered on, you will hear the pump running. After 5 seconds, squeeze the in-line hose in the tank (usually the longest hose, has a particle filter attached). if you hear a different sound, this means the pump is working correctly. If not, immediately power down the machine and contact us. For more information, visit this page General Manual Pump Priming.
- Electrical: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. Without the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat, or the wiring inside. For more information, visit this page Power Protection.
- Water: To increase the useful life and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled, purified, or reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale. For more information, visit this page Water Choice.
- Descaling: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. Too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine. As a preventative measure, we recommend using softened water as explained in the bullet point above.
- Backflushing: Unfortunately this type of espresso machine cannot be backflushed because there is no solenoid valve to relieve built-up pressure in the grouphead. A quick way to clean the grouphead is to lock in your portafilter with no coffee and pull the lever down a few times. The long way is removing the screen, however, this runs the risk of damage.

Unfortunately, manufacturers do not provide wiring diagrams.
I am looking to purchase this machine, and I would also like to purchase a spare electric element as well. From the Parts list it appears to be Number 23 , Part number 01480035, but I am not certain as it is not clearly labeled. (Part #01480035 is a washer) What is the correct heating element and how do I add it to my order?

I bought a Micro casa a leva from 1st-line a year ago. It's been making great coffee. I use it intermittently, mostly over weekends, probably a total of 50 days or so. This weekend, the group head started dripping significantly. It happens either during warm up or cool off, it happened three times, and each time it emptied a significant portion of the water tank (one third to one half) into the drip tray. Could you advise how to fix it?

There are 4 points of a leak:
a) dispersion screen, and/or
b) on top where piston inserts, and/or
c) pinhole behind the grouphead, and/or
d) attachment to boiler wall. Most likely, the piston gaskets need to be replaced. Instruction for determining the parts is on our self-service parts portal. Sorry, we do not offer instructions on this serf-repair. However, you may be able to find YT videos to assist or you can send it in for repair after a Repair Authorization is provided.
Hi there, I am trying to replace the boiler for my Elektra Microcasa Leva, I am not able to remove the water glass (part #35). I watched Stefano's videos and he easily removes it after taking off the 2 covers, however my glass is firmly stuck, and I am afraid to apply pressure and break the glass. Any advice? Thank you in advance!

Hi there, I purchased a replacement for the boiler on my Elektra Microcasa Leva, and the boiler unit is not the same. I am not able to put the delivery unit (part #17) back, due to the injector pipe (part #19) not fitting into the boiler opening. Also, there are extra holes on top of the boiler, all around, as well as in the water reservoir and at the bottom near the water glass. Was the boiler changed? It seems to not be compatible with my Elktra, which we purchased back in 2017.

The boiler for the 'a leva' lever espresso machines is different than the boiler for the SemiAutomatic pump-driven espresso machines. You may have purchased the incorrect boiler.
I bought my Electra micro Casa lever from you about 10 years ago and I have never ever been able to get any chocolate tones from my coffee beans. I have bought beans from the best places in the country that have the best chocolate tones, but for some reason, I don’t get it from this machine. My grind is from my Mazer mini and it’s high-quality. The length of time is about 24 to 28 seconds. I use clean water bought from the store. Do you have any advice for me or is it impossible for this machine to give chocolatey tones in it’s espresso.

The only thing we can suggest is filling the reservoir 75% full to maintain better temperature stability and maybe the pressure should be lowered on the pressurstat. It can also be your burrs, if your grinder is older.

Following up to the Admin response to my question on 12/3/24, I've tried descaling and lubricating the piston rod and neither of those things have fixed the issue, before i open up the group to lubricate the gaskets, I want to check if that would void my warranty.

I recently purchased MCaL a couple weeks ago and in the last few days the lever has stopped returning fully to the top when pulling a shot. It'll go most of the way and then stop with that middle post around a quarter inch proud and then in a few jerking motions the lever will raise a little more leaving the post maybe an eighth of an inch proud where it remains there until I push the lever the rest of the way up, after which a little extra water will trickle out. The same happens when flushing the group with no portafilter locked in, however the post stops only a few millimeters from being flush. I'm new to lever machines so I'm not sure if this is normal behavior and the spring has just been broken in after an initial use period or if it needs to be relubricated. As a side note, the lever has quite a bit more left and right play than i'd think normal, and both the post and lever rollers have black gunk on them that I assume is lubricant or some kind of wear down of the metal working its way out, but that appeared around the same time as the lever issue.

A few scenarios where this could happen:
a) There is calcium build up inside the group-head that is hitting the gaskets. Yes, limescale from calcium can build up in as little 2 weeks of use. Try running a descaling solution through the group-head, BUT be very careful to not allow it to touch the finish as it will strip off the clear-coat on the outside, and/or
b) The grease on the shaft wore away. Use a food grade high temp grease and lubricate the shaft from the top and work down, and/or
c) the rolling pins need to be lubricated with the same grease in b).
If the problem persists, then the top of the group-head needs to be removed by removing the Allen keys. A physical inspect needs to take place on the smoothness of the inside of the group-head as well as the gaskets. The shaft and gaskets will need to be lubricated. If the gaskets are too dry, then the water may be too pure, opposite of calcium build up.
I received my Elektra Microcasa a Leva from 1st line last week and I think there may be a problem with either the pressure gauge or the pressure-stat. When I turn the unit machine on, I can hear it heating up and gurgling. After about 10 - 15 minutes, the red light turns off and the noises stop, but the pressure gauge still reads zero. At this point, I can release steam from the steam wand which makes me think that the pressure is not really zero. If I wait longer, the pressure reading on the gauge will begin to increase as the machine cycles on and off. Eventually the pressure gauge will rise to the green zone, but this takes an additional 10 - 15 minutes after the red light first turned off. Overall, it's taking close to 30 minutes for the gauge to reach the green zone, which is considerably longer than what's stated in the manual. I'm not sure if the machine is actually reaching the correct pressure earlier (meaning the pressure gauge is faulty) or if the pressure gauge is accurate and the pressure-stat is cycling off way too early.

The machine requires 20-30 minutes to heat up depending upon actual voltage, ambient temperature, and water temp. There can be a particle inside the sight glass at the top that may have dislodged. Please keep an eye on it.
I purchased my Elektra about 7 years ago and I'm running into an issue now where water is not coming out of the grouphead. I never descaled the machine before, and the water is exceptionally hard where I was living for a few years. As one of the few Elektra dealers near me, I wonder if there's any steps that you could recommend to help troubleshoot, including what product you'd recommend for descaling.

A few Months Back I purchased a Heating Element and Gasket Kit for my Elektra. All the gaskets went in perfectly and machine was up and running. I noticed right away that the Two Gaskets for the Piston seemed to be a harder material than original, but didn't think much of it. However, from day one the Piston movement is no longer a smooth motion. When you move the lever Down and the piston comes up, you can hear a Rubber on Metal noise chirping along the wall of the Cylinder . The only way to get fairly smooth operation is to Grease the components every few days. This doesn't seem right to me, and I was wondering if there have been other complaints or issues. Possibly the Rubber compound from your supplier was faulty. purchased 09/24/2021

Hello, I received my Elektra machine yesterday and had a couple questions: 1. The brass on the roller pin (on the lever) and the brass that it rolls across is wearing already (I have a photo but can't attach a picture here). It seems to have worn through all the brass already. Is this normal? Seems like it shouldn't be wearing through after making 4 shots. 2. I noticed a bit of thin plastic film on the portafilter and a piece seems to have made its way into one of my drinks. I followed the instructions in your initial set up video, but was there another hidden piece of plastic film I may have missed removing?

Sorry, this machine is verve old and usually there will be repair creep - as on thing is repaired, it opens up another issues. Even a descaling can cause a new problem. Hence, we do not support machines this old and Elektra has advised the same in the past. In addition, prior to 2005 and 1995, there can be different parts compared to the versions in the last 10 years. Again, sorry for the outcome.
I have an Elektra microcosasa which I purchased (and have had repaired by) from you. It is getting progressively difficult to attach the portafilter. I have thoroughly cleaned the area. Does it need a new O-ring gasket? And if so, is this the correct one?--Elektra 00174035 Portafilter / Grouphead Gasket

Please always use the diagrams on our web site. Sorry, we do not always provide part numbers as they can change in the future. It is best to use the diagrams. You may need a dispersion screen as well.
My Elektra Microcasa doesn't always send water through the grouphead. I push the lever down and hold it, but when I release it lately it's been popping right up. No espresso comes out. If I try it 2 or 3 times I'll finally be able to pull a good shot. But there's obviously something wrong.

Either the screen is clogged, the coffee ground too fine (yes, you need to change settings when the seasons of batch of coffee changes), or there is a blockage upstream in the grouphead. All three needs to be determined for the cause you are having.

I need the steam wand part # 0015 1021, the basic steam wand from your exploded view of the Micro A Leva. I am unable to get a price from the diagram. It looks like the rubber washer on the tip comes with it. I have lost the rubber tip on mine and I guess that is how I must replace.
My machine heats milk but does not froth it. Any other suggestions?

Search for the 8 digit part number on our web site. If you re-review the diagram, you will need to purchase the entire assembly under part#16 for that diagram. The wand is not available by itself.
Does the group head require periodic cleaning. I notice that the filter and its rubber gasket collect limited coffee residue. How should this be done? Can you pull out the filter from the bottom or do you pull the grouphead from the top?

Since the unit can not be backflushed, the best alternative is flushing CleanCaf through the boiler and grouphead. The screen and gasket can be removed for manual cleaning, but there is the possibility of damage, which this is not covered under warranty.

Please reset the safety thermostat. If the problem continues, this will mean the machine has other issues and should be checked by a professional.
I bought my Elektra from you some years ago and I'm hoping you can help with a problem. On start up, it consistently leaks about a cup of water. The drip is significant. If I pull the handle down momentarily and then let it up, it slows the drip. I changed the gaskets and that seemed to fix it but a few weeks later, it began the leak again. Once it gets up to pressure, the leak stops. I didn't have this problem the first couple years I had the machine

Read more answer nowAsked by on February 22, 2021 6:27 pmAnswered by the admin Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, there may be limescale build up or matter that is causing the piston gaskets to slightly tear. Once it heats up, the expansion creates a better seal. Otherwise, the inside of the grouphead could be worn down, but this only happens under very heavy usage.
Hi, a couple of years ago I bought a Elektra Microcasa a Leva Espresso Machine from you. I’m moving to Los Angeles and the water there tastes horrible. The apartment I will be renting won’t allow me to attach any sort of water filter to the plumbing. I remember reading that reverse osmosis and distilled water isn’t good for the machines. Do you have any recommendations for pitcher type water filters? I currently buy and use your BILT Osmotic Scale Reduction cloth packs but I don’t think that is sufficient for the Los Angeles public water. Thanks in advance for any advice you can share.

The gouphead and piston gaskets probably need replacement. Please use the procedures in diagnostic to bring the machine in for repair.
My Microcasa is at least 15 years old. It has worked flawlessly all of this time. I did not use it for five or six months, however. i filled it with water, turned it on today. it heated perfectly, steam was coming out of the frother arm. But, when I pulled down the lever, once with the pod in and once without, no water comes in to the head.

My Electra Casa is about 8 years old. It has worked perfectly all these years. However I am having a problem now. Not every time but very often after the machine has heated up, when I pull the lever nothing happens. The machine is hot. The light is off and the pressure gauge is usually around 1.3. It seems that there isn't enough pressure to push the espresso out even though the gauge says otherwise. Then after some time I might get it to work or I shut it off and let it heat up again and then it might work.

This could be a stuck bleeder valve on top of the boiler. Push the pin down and see if it was stuck.
It could be the grinder was too fine.
It could be a bad heating element that is shorted to ground. Please plug into a GFI outlet. If it trips, the heating element is damaged or defective.
Hello, I don't see on your pages the portafilter for this machine. I see the one with wooden handle, but not for my chrome machine. Is this available? Some like $100, or $60 for the head (if available) alone?
I'm looking for a backup as I'm thinking of grinding the two bottom spouts off, so that it extracts right from screen into cup.
Thanks.

my Elektra Microcasa a Leva started making a creaking type of noise when I release the lever, shortly after I decalcified the machine

Sorry this has happened. The seals in the grouphead probably need to be lubricated and/or replaced. This is not an easy task without tools and general mechanical skills.
It is understood that the best way to maintain this machine is to make sure hard water is not used, given that still, over time some scale is inevitable. the manual gives no guidance for cleaning or descaling. What is the optimal approach? thanks

We do not want you to descale because descaling eats at the metals and gaskets. It is best to treat the water and prevent limescale.
We suggest removing the scale reduction packs we sell.
I have a 5 month old Microcasa, which certainly required a learning curve, but is now making great espresso. This happens every once in a while on newer machines.
In general, the knob should not be overturned nor forced. It is made of plastic to diminish the possibilities of burning oneself.
If the knob becomes stiff to turn, it is possible that the ball joint valve inside needs NSF approved food grade lubrication with Petrolgel. With the machine cold and unplugged from the electrical outlet, the steam wand nut and steam wand need to be removed by placing a cloth over the nut and using a crescent wrench - sometimes a crescent wrench needs to be placed on the inner side of the valve to hold it from spinning. Put some Petrolgel into the steam valve and turn the valve back and forth to work in the lubrication. Work in more if still stiff. Put back the wand and nut. Hand tighten and then 1/8th turn with a crescent wrench.
My machine works great still, but the pressure gauge is off. When totally cold it sits a notch above 0 and when fully heated a notch above the green. Can this be remedied?

Sorry, we do not get involved with conversions, not how to power 220 volt espresso machines brought in from outside the United States. Due to the amount of labor and special ordering of spare parts, it is not worth the cost to changeover. Due to liability reasons, we can not offer any suggestions because our suggestions may cause damage to the existing components due to the differences in ohms. Again, sorry we are unable to assist.

Please use softened water, not RO, distilled, nor purified water as oxidation occurs. You can turn tap water into soft water by using our Oscar150 cloth. Try not to descale espresso machines as descalers eat the metals and the gaskets.
Run CleanCaf once a month through the machine. Gaskets in the grouphead should be changed every 12-24 months or when they start to leak.

Sorry, the leak is not specific enough where the leak is occurring. Steam wand? Grouphead? Pinhole behind grouphead? Boiler to grouphead attachement? Base on bottom? Boiler cap?
Hello, My Elektra Microcasa a Leva has been beginning to leak water. I've just ordered -- in two batches -- some gaskets, and I hope this is the cause. Recently, it was tripping the wall breaker, and when I opened it up, saw enough water in there that I thought it might be related. In the first order, I purchased some grouphead gaskets -- but then later saw a boiler gasket for the bottom. And, since this was most near where the moisture was likely shorting the electrodes, thought that this specific gasket might be the central problem. So I just purchased the entire kit -- though I will surely have some duplicates. Here is my question, though the purchase (to this point) is already complete: Would you also concur that it's likely these gaskets, particularly the boiler gasket, that may have allowed leaking -- and more specifically, thereby tripping the breaker? (When the machine dried out, it didn't trip; but by the time it heated again, did, with moisture on the bottom again.) Or do you suspect some other part is failing? Also, in the gasket kit, there seems to be a couple of gaskets I don't recognize from the pictures, perhaps related to the water sight glass. I have the sleeves off, and the top and bottom bolts loose, but the glass seems fixed; and I'm reluctant to apply too much pressure for fear of breaking the glass (and requiring a third purchase.) Might this be a, "if it's not broken, don't fix it" type thing? And would this be where the other white-looking gaskets go? Thanks. The machine, btw, was purchased from you in around 2015

Most likely it is not the gaskets if in the bottom of the machine. It is most likely limescale. If limescale damaged the brass, then new gaskets will not help.
As for specific questions about the parts, please ask on the parts page for the kit or individual gasket page.

This is the grind fineness being too coarse or the amount of coffee in the basket.
