Features
Single boiler, dual purpose system
- Brass, insulated: The ECM Casa V boiler is made of brass which retains heat better than stainless steel. In general, copper boilers are more susceptible to limescale when you compare to stainless steel boilers. Therefore, we highly recommend using a water softener. The manufacturer wraps the boiler with insulation for maximum heat retention.
- Boiler volume: With a 0.4 liter capacity, this machine has one of the largest boilers on the market under $1,000.
- High wattage heating element: The heating element rates at a very high 1200 watts. This allows for quicker reaction time when cold water enters the boiler, shorter heat up times, and quick transition from coffee to steam mode.
- Over pressure valve (O.P.V.): Easy access on the top of the machine, underneath the cup warming tray. To point out this adjusts the brew pressure. Turn clockwise to increase and counter-clockwise to decrease.
Controls
- Push button controls: Simple to use. All controls are on the front face of the machine. The main controls are on the left side in a 2×2 grid.
- Coffee switch: Located in the front upper right. The light above indicates the pump is on running water through the grouphead.
- Steam switch: Located in the front lower left. The light above indicates the heating element is active.
- Hot water switch: Located in the front lower right. The light above indicates the wand is active for hot water.
Pressure gauge
- Pressure gauge: In brief the gauge displays in real time the pressure during coffee extraction. Only 9-10 bar is needed to make espresso. This gauge will help perfect your espresso shot.
- Display: To clarify, our current stock has the newer display that reads every 4 bar.
Steam / water wand
- Multi-purpose: Used for both steam or hot water depending on the current mode.
- Multi-directional: Allows for flexibility to steam on the side of the machine. Enables you to prepare creamy cappuccinos.
- Very short wait time: The small boiler and very high wattage heating element. As a result, it cuts the wait time from coffee to steam.
Vibration Pump
- Efficient: 41 watts (manufacturer can change), rated up to 15 bar with air valve bypass. You only need 9 bar to extract perfect espresso, and wattage has no correlation to longevity.
- Cost-effective: To point out, pumps will degrade in performance over time and usually average useful life is 5 years. Easy area to self-replace. In the long run, replacing a vibration pump will cost less than a rotary vane pump.
Tank / Reservoir
- Open top: Easy to fill. Easy to clean.
Parts & accessories included
- Portafilters: Dual spout portafilter. 58 mm in diameter. Commercial grade quality similar to the other ECM machines.
- Filter baskets: 1-cup filter basket which holds approximately 7 grams. 2-cup filter basket which holds approximately 14 grams. Blind filter basket which you use for backflushing. 58 mm in diameter.
- Tamper: A solid 58mm tamper. In short, you don’t need to upgrade.
- Cleaning brush: A brush specifically for cleaning the grouphead. There are ridges on the neck of the brush to help prevent scalding water from reaching your hand.
- Silicon hose: This attaches to the water tank adapter if you are going to use an in line water softener.
Instructional manual: Written in 3 languages: German, English, and Dutch.

General Espresso Machine Notes/Warnings:
- Upon first use (tank/reservoir models): On the initial start-up (or after a long period of non-use), it is important to make sure the pump is removing water from the tank. When the machine is powered on, you will hear the pump running. After 5 seconds, squeeze the in-line hose in the tank (usually the longest hose, has a particle filter attached). if you hear a different sound, this means the pump is working correctly. If not, immediately power down the machine and contact us. For more information, visit this page General Manual Pump Priming.
- Electrical: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. Without the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat, or the wiring inside. For more information, visit this page Power Protection.
- Water: To increase the useful life and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled, purified, or reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale. For more information, visit this page Water Choice.
- Descaling: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. Too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine. As a preventative measure, we recommend using softened water as explained in the bullet point above.
- Backflushing: This procedure of cleaning the grouphead will need to be performed from time to time. For more information, visit this page Espresso Machine Backflush – Why 50?

I have an ECM CASA V that I received from a family member. I have been making lattes and have been noticing the following. Are these normal temps ? -- Temp. of coffee alone from brewhead. = 110 F. ( 50 C) -- Milk after steaming for lattes = 118 F. ( 48 C) could go higher on this but want microfoam for making latte art -- Coffee + milk = 100 F (40 C) We like to drink lattes at about 135 F ( 55 C) which means we have to microwave the drinks for a minute to reach 135 F (55 C) ! It would be nice to not have to microwave. Should the brew temp be higher ? If yes is this adjustable ? Thank you

Please purchase a SCACE device to get the proper read of temperature with respected water flow. Unfortunately, without this tool, your measurements are completely flawed in testing.
My machine is about 2 1/2 years old. It started pushing water around the portafilter instead of through the bed, so I’m getting clear water coming into the drip tray around the portafilter. I’m hoping this is a simple problem like a gasket that I can replace myself, but please let me know what you recommend.

Q Hi! Just wondering if you have a replacement boiler for ECM’s Casa V in stock. Thanks! answer nowAsked by on July 26, 2021 12:44 pmAnswered by the admin Sorry, we do not have any in stock.
I purchased two thermostats one from you (135C) and the other from (competitor name removed) (104C). Oddly you only sold one and they only sold the other.
The Casa V has two thermostats and I plan to attach them with thermal glue (since the old ones were corroded and broke off easily).
I have drilled out the old holes in the top of the boiled and the new thermostats will easily fit in.
I purchased a thermal adhesive and plan to glue them in.
Are the correct thermostats pre set to 104C for the brew and 135C for the steam?
Is the center thermostat the steam or the brew?

There is thermal paste used, not thermal glue.
Please review the diagrams for further assistance, or even better, as you remove the thermostats, check the old one's temperature rating and place in the new one. Sorry, we will not advise on placement as this can change in the future and the diagrams on our web site should always be referenced.

I bought a Casa V from 1st-Line late June of 2019. At the moment, the welds that hold the top border of the drip tray to the bottom portion of the tray have failed, so the drip tray now comes apart completely. This is annoying, because it takes some dexterity to fit the parts back together. I am sure this is still under warranty. Can you help me replace the drip tray?

Q Hi. Does the Casa V have a lead-free brass boiler? Thanks. answer nowAsked by on March 29, 2020 6:39 pmAnswered by the admin Only our opinion as others may disagree... Although European manufacturers make every effort to remove most lead from their brass boilers, all brass boilers have some lead in it. In addition, there are brass fittings which have some lead. Most manufacturers do place a coating on the inside to lessen the risk of lead. However, this coating is usually removed upon descaling. This is why we ask that customers prevent limescale with water treatment. On the flip side, most waters will add a coating back to the brass after several months of use. The same applies to commercial espresso machines used in cafes.
Hello, I have the same question as someone else from April of 2018 as I do not see these parts shown on your website: "I understand that the group head gaskets need periodic replacement. Are these gaskets (and a replacement shower screen) available?" Thank you.

Descale only if there is an issue. Otherwise, preventative measures like an in tank water softener help safeguard the machine. This is why ECM includes the extra little hose to attach inside the reservoir.
