Overview:
A huge legend in a small body. The Lelit PL62T Mara is placed at the prestigious end of many home espresso machines. The legendary E61 grouphead inside an incredibly compact, full stainless steel body with a PID adjustable temperature controller of the boiler. The result: a marvelous, appealing and super compact espresso machine enabling to apply baristas golden rules and extract the tastiest espressos and cappuccinos you can dream of.
Heat exchange system:
- Copper, insulation – The boiler is copper which retains heat better than stainless steel. Typically copper boilers are more susceptible to limescale when you compare to stainless steel boilers. Therefore, we highly recommend using a water softener. The manufacturer wraps the boiler with insulation for maximum heat retention. Internal pipes also in copper.
- Pull a shot & steam milk at the same time – Steam is always readily available. Hence, there is no wait time going from coffee to steam mode.
- Thermo-siphon double-cycle system – Keeps the brew group and the boiler always hot, at the right temperature.
- Polymer tubing connection – From the boiler to steam and hot water valves: Alimentary. Able to withstand high pressure and high temperatures up to 620 °F. Facilitates easier repairs. Most importantly, is limescale free.
- Manual resettable safety thermostat – Located on top of the boiler.
E-61 grouphead:
- Constantly heated – Hot water circulates from the heat exchanger through the grouphead and back to keep the grouphead and your portafilter nice and hot. As a result the grouphead temperature constant and stable when you compare to other groupheads that have a built-in heating element.
- Pre-infusion – Lever next to the grouphead activates a microswitch which turns on the pump to pump water through the coffee grinds. Pulling the lever halfway up will open the valve to allow water into the grouphead without activating the pump. Please note that true pre-infusion requires the direct water connection whereby the water pressure from the water line creates the true pre-infusion.
Vibratory pump:
- Efficient – 41 watts, rated up to 15 bar with air valve bypass. You only need 9 bar to extract perfect espresso, and wattage has no correlation to longevity.
- Cost-effective – Pumps will degrade in performance over time. Replacing a vibration pump will cost less than a rotary vane pump.
Tank / reservoir system:
- Particle filter – Protects the machine from any unseen particles from entering the boiler. You can remove this filter if you are installing an inline water softener.
- Auto-shutoff – Prevents burning out the heating element. There is a two-stage shut off. There is a magnetic float in the water tank that detects when the water is low. The other is the spring-activated plate underneath the water tank that detects when the tank is removed.
Separate steam / hot water wands:
- Multi-directional – Allows for more movement and flexibility. The wands connect to the valves on an angle to the side for even more flexibility. As a result, there is less risk of burning oneself from the exposed grouphead.
- No burn – Reduces the risk of burning your fingers. Please note the tip and valve connection are still hot.
- 2-hole steam tip – Allows for a slow gradual build-up of microfoam.
- Rotational knobs – Allows for easier control of the intensity.
Dual pressure gauge:
- Steam (boiler) pressure gauge – Top half. Measures from 0 to 4 bar. Optimal pressure is between 0.8 and 1.1.
- Brew (pump) pressure gauge – Bottom half. Measures from 0 to 16 bar. Optimal pressure is between 8 and 10.
Indicator lights & tone:
- Heating light – Located on the right side. Indicates when the heating element is active.
- Power indicator light – Located on the left side. This will indicate when the machine is on.
- Low water – When the water in the tank is low, you will hear a constant beep.
PID Controls:
- Temperature programming – Allows you to program the boiler temperature for different coffee blends.
Construction:
- Stainless steel – Polished to a mirror finish.
- Extremely low feet – Creates a very low profile to fit under most kitchen cabinets.
- Power plug – Completely detaches from the espresso machine and can fit into the drip tray for long term storage.
Accessories included:
- Portafilters – 1 single spout portafilter. 1 dual spout portafilter. 58 mm in diameter.
- Filter baskets – 1-cup filter basket which holds approximately 7 grams. 2-cup filter basket which holds approximately 14 grams. Blind filter basket which you use for backflushing. 58 mm in diameter.
- Tamper – A solid 58 mm tamper. Manufacturers normally don’t include a tamper like this to keep the overall selling price of the machine low. One less accessory you will need to buy.
- Coffee scoop – A simple plastic scoop if you are using preground coffee.

Espresso Machine Warning:

- WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
- DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.
- Direct water connection: The Lelit PL62T Mara is currently NOT available with a direct water connection. It can only operate with a water tank / reservoir.
- Low water alarm: The beep of the low water alarm starts slow for about 20 seconds. In this time there is power to the heating element. After the 20 seconds the heating element is no longer powered and the beep increases the frequency.

Thanks for getting back. I cleaned the OPV valve and that didn't work. I then tried to descale the machine, but the pump could only pump 1/2 of the two liters of water added to two packages of Puly powder. Any idea what's next?

It possibly needs a new pump, but it may be the solenoid valve or other parts. Net step is to have a professional evaluate the machine.
I have a Le Lit PL62T that was purchased in 2015 that suddenly struggles to pump coffee. When I turn on the machine it seems to take a bit longer to warm up to 121, but it gets there. The boiler pressure currently reads 1. The pump pressure, however, barely moves (I believe it typically reads between 8 and 12). Any idea what might be going on?

Remove water softener and test as outlined. If it can not reach minimum 9 bar, then a descaling should occur OR a new pump may be needed. If it reaches 9 bar, it may be the water softener.
My Mara PL62T purchased in January 2019 began beeping and will not stop even though I have a full tank. I've unplugged it and tried to reset it but no luck. Any help in diagnosing the issue and/or giving me the part numbers for the parts I'll need to switch would be most appreciated. I looked on the parts page for the unit but it doesn't tell me the name of the parts, it just gives their numbers. I have zero idea which sensors would need replaced. I will probably get the newer tank just so I can use the bigger softener but other than that I have no idea what would need to be replaced. Thanks for your help.

If the water tank has a magnet, make sure it is floating inside. Make sure the magnet is on the left side. Otherwise, it can be the switch under the reservoir, or wiring, or the brain unit. It does becomes a guess on the parts. Sorry, we could not be more specific.

Sorry, at this age, the machine should be evaluated by a professional. It can be the power switch, damaged wiring, low water cut off switch, the safety thermostats and/or the heating element.
Dear 1st-Line - I purchased the Mara PL62T from you. Previously, I posted about my machine not working and you gave me ideas on descaling. It still doesn't work, so I think I need a new pump. I'm not sure, but I think the part #MC 006-110 is the one I need. Do you know if I need any other parts when I replace the pump? If you can confirm this part # I will order it, or buy it from you. My Lelit PL62T Mara machine, purchased from 1st-line, has been in regular use for the 5 years I've had it. In the last 3 days, I'm experiencing the following problem: the pressure does not reach the usual 9-10 bars while pulling a shot. It may fluctuate between 1-10, may not get above 1, or may work normally. I can hear the pump vibrate, even when the pressure is low. More detail: 9/7/22 7:30AM: Turned machine on 8AM: Pulled a shot, worked fine 9PM: Tried to pull a shot, pressure was the usual 9-10 bars throughout except for 2-3 momentary dips to about 4 bars 10PM: Turned machine off 9/8/22 7:30AM: Turned machine on 8AM: Pulled a shot, worked fine 9PM: Tried to pull a shot, pressure was about 1 bar throughout - no shot pulled 9+PM: Turned machine off 9/9/22 7:30AM: Turned machine on 8AM: Tried to pull a shot, pressure was about 4-5 bar throughout - espresso came out very light 8:15AM: Retried, with finer grind. Tried to pull a shot, pressure back to the usual 9-10 bar throughout. 8:30AM: turned machine off Questions 1. Problem seems to occur when machine is hot, from having stayed on all day. Is it possible that the problem, if due to any particular part, is related to heat build-up (and so I should not have the machine on for long periods of time)? 2. I can hear the pump vibrate, so it is "working" in that sense. Given that in the morning it does seem to work properly with 9 bars of pressure, does that rule out the pump? 3. Any guidance on how to trouble-shoot? Please read our article on gauges and manometers. Based on design, the heat exchanger overheats in as little as 5 minutes from inactivity. What is probably happening is the water is evaporating over several hours. If this did not happen before, then it 'can' mean there is a steam leak somewhere and the heat exchanger is filling up with water in the latter times. This is why customers do flushes on E61 machines when there is inactivity.
I have a Lelit Mara PL62T. Purchased from 1st-Line - it has worked pretty well for a few years. Right now, the Brew (pump) pressure gauge doesn't move when I turn it on - stays at zero - even after 30 to 45 mins of warming up. Does that require a new pump? New Solenoid? If the pump works, please remove any water softener and test the brew pressure gauge with the blind filter inserted into the portafilter. Lift the lever up for 45 seconds and see if the gauges moves to 9 or higher.
If the gauge reads 9 or higher, then it is not the machine. It may be a clogged water softener or your grind settings.
If the gauge does not reach 8-9 bar, then it may be a bad pump that needs replacement.
A sorry if this is duplicated, but I sent an answer, and I don't see it now. I did exactly as you suggested - removed filter, blind filter, ran for 45 seconds - nothing, the bottom needle on pressure gauge didn't move off of zero. the temp cycled from 230 to 220 and back up to 230 over the course of 45 seconds. If you could send me the part # of the pump, I'll try and install a new one. thanksAnswered by the adminIt sounds like gauge is limescaled up. Please remove the water softener and run a descaler, like Dezcal, only through the grouphead - about 16 ounces - and let sit overnight. Then run another 15 ounces. Rinse reservoir and and fill tank with water. Flush out 8 ouces through the grouphead every 30 minutes until the reservoir is empty. Test again with blind.

I purchased a PL-62 from you back in 2017. The machine has been great except now when I turn it on, the pump runs continuously and no heating takes place. The water is pumping but that water is being fed back to the tank via the shorter return tube. I've taken off the top plate and have reviewed the parts diagram so I'm able to troubleshoot/repair if given some guidance. Thanks in advance for your help.

Chances are the machine was sitting for more than 2 weeks and the solenoid valve for the boiler refill became clogged with dried water or limescale. Otherwise, the solenoid valve is defective.
Remove the reservoir, take all the water out, fill with white vinegar, and run 2 (8 ounce) cups through grouphead. When you turn on the machine, you will hear the pump turn on within 30 seconds because it is trying to fill the boiler. Do not heat machine at all until the problems stops as this could damage the heating element. Power off and let sit for 2 hours.
Repeat until you see vinegar stops exiting the return hose or if you power on and the pump does not engage within 30 seconds.
Once the valve is cleared, you will need to remove the white vinegar from the boiler and these descaling instructions (rinsing section starting at step 17) can be used.
FURTHER UPDATE re: water pump and overflow issue. After the last incident that I reported (where pump ran continuously and caused water overflow), after turning off machine and letting it cool down, I removed the top cover, turned on the machine and watched. This time, the pump didn’t start, but water started coming out if relief valve at top of boiler. I removed several ounces of water through the hot water spout, but the pump didn’t start. However, water and steam continued to be released from the top of the boiler. Please review this and prior posts by me and advise.

Lelit Mara PL62T URGENT!! Water Pump Issue - New Development after this morning’s posted question. Please see my earlier post today.p, where I spoke about the pump not activating immediately after water withdrawn from the boiler, and asked whether it could be tge water sensor. (For some reason, I am not seeing that posted here, I don’t know why.) NOW, on again turning on the machine, the water pump began to pump continuously, leading to a water overflow. Again, it can be the sensor or the refill valve is clogged. Remove the water softener and fill the reservoir with white vinegar. Keeping machine cold at all times, run 2 cups through grouphead every hour. In between, power off to avoid element damage. AFter a full reservoir full of white vinegar, test machine for 30 seconds to see if it refills the boiler. Otherwise, it may need to come in.
Problem with water fill. Previously, on most occasions when turning on the machine, the water pump would activate for a few seconds, presumably to top off the boiler water level. For the last 10 days, this doesn’t happen. Instead, after the machine has warned up, the pump suddenly activates and pumps for about 15 seconds, as though the machine belatedly has detected that thecwater level is too low. Also, when drawing water from the hot water spout, there is delayed start of the pump to replace the withdrawn water. Is there a problem with the water level sensor? Is it possibly fouled by mineral deposit? If so, should I descale the boiler? If the sensor needs to be replaced, can I do it myself without bringing the machine back to you for repairs? Note: machine is 3+ years old. You replaced the water sensor because of deposits 2 times previously. I currently am softening the water, first by using the Bilt device in a water pitcher kept in the refrigerator, and then by also using the Lelit cartridge in the water tank (as suggested by Jim).

Here are the differences:
Construction - Stainless Steel

Water Reservoir
PL62T - pull from hoses above the reservoir
PL62X - bottom gravity feed
Pump
PL62T - standard vibration pump
PL62X - vibration pump that is about 10% quieter
PID Sensor Positioning
PL62T - One PID sensor on top of the boiler only
PL62X - One PID sensor on top of the boiler to manage steam, and the 2nd PID sensor on the bottom of the thermosyphon loop to manage the temperature of water in the heat exchanger for grouphead. IN X mode, priority temp is given to the coffee side for temperature stability. In non-X mode, priority given to the steam side with very little priority for water temperature stability at grouphead
Temperature Programming
PL62T has a PID display to program the desired temperature of the boiler
PL62X has a 3 position switch to program 90-92, 92-94, and 94-96 d °C
Usage - Espresso
PL62T does require a cooling flush but then can do back to back espresso shots
PL62X In X mode (switch on right-hand side pushed up), the optimal programmed temperature is achieved at the 24-30 minute mark after start up. At 30-60 minutes after start-up, there is a little over temp. After 60 minutes it settles to the desired temp. However, after pulling the first shot, the temperature increases by 1 degree C over-programmed temp for the second shot. 3rd and more shots continually to increase in temp. Hence, X mode is not good for entertaining, but then the switch on the right side is pushed down for regular heat exchanger mode.
Usage - Steam
PL62T -Standard like other heat exchangers
PL62X - In X mode, during the first extraction, the heating element turns on to prepare for steaming/frothing milk.
Hi two issues today. The gasket i believe needs to be replaced because when i brew espresso now it leaks all over and goes up the handle. Also, the PID i think is not very accurate as a lot of times the espresso is not that hot. SHould i ncreate the PID from default setting then? Lastly the rubber that connects to the water softener i think needs replaced since it doesnt attach to water softener anymore. Thanks

Please go the diagrams on our web site and search the part code on our web site for the grouphead gasket. We are unsure what you mean by rubber mounts as the water softener connects to the hose.
If the espresso is not hot, this means your grouphead is not properly heated at start up or your preparation needs to be improved. The PID does reflect the temperature in the boiler AND does not reflect the temperature of the grouphead.
By the way, I have one technical question for the Lelit PL62T. What I have noticed a few times (not everyday) when I turn on the machine in the morning, the Lelit PID would show temp as high as 131 and steam pressure above 2 bar... this is after about 20 minutes. If I don't do anything... after another 20 minutes (total 40min heating time) it will eventually drop back down to the preset 120 and pretty much stays constant at 120/121. If I purge the steam and flush the group head when it is around 130, it would drop back down to 120/121 and stay there.
Do you think there is air in the boiler which could cause that? The Lelit water tank has always been full and has not run empty. I do have the Lelit softener connected. I appreciate any suggestion from you. I just want to make sure the machine is ok and I am not doing anything wrong as this is my first HX machine and so far it's been awesome

Read more answer nowAsked by on October 30, 2020 7:23 pmA I have had my Lelit Mara PL62T for just over a year and a half, and mine has done the same thing. I was never able to find any information about it, but I have just let my machine do its thing, and I haven’t experienced any issues as of yet. It started doing this within the first couple of months, irregularly, and like you, it was never allowed to run dry. I used to purge the steam and run water through the grouphead, but that was water wasteful and annoying - it’s not like I stand staring at my machine. I’ve learned that my machine will auto kick the pump on when it gets too hot in order to cycle water through the system, and I can also hear the safety steam release valve letting out some of the pressure under the hood. I opened the top up before to check inside the casing since I was concerned that perhaps there was a faulty part or that the safety valve releasing steam pressure on a semi-regular basis was potentially damaging. But under the hood was pristine, and I could not see any issues with the connections inside (grain of salt with this, as I am not a pro!). If you find anything on this, let us know! For myself and my machine, a year and a half in, and this has not seemed to impact the performance of my PL62T. I hope this is somewhat helpful, even if I can’t really give an answer to the cause. This is also my first hx machine, previously I’ve only owned single boiler semi-automatics, and passing experience with manual lever machines.A Working with Lelit and 1st-line, I think the issue is finally resolved. Jim was very helpful in providing instruction on how to fix the issue. The temperature probe (Editor's correction: HEREIN REFILL PROBE) was the cause of the issue. To see if it was indeed the temperature (REFILL) probe, I had to remove the top cover and the back cover of the Lelit. Unplug the plastic water line to the hot water valve and remove the fitting from the boiler. This will give you access to put a wrench on the temperature probe. Carefully remove the temperature probe from the boiler. The temperature probe looked oxidized and was in a grayish color. I used 1500 grit sand paper to remove the oxidation until it is a nice shiny silver color (I am not sure if this is the Lelit recommended procedure though). I then put everything back together and made sure there was no leak. Now, the temperature is stable at 120-121 with steam pressure steady between 1 and 1.25 bar mark. I am not sure how long this will last and why the probe was oxidized, but now the machine is as good as new. Temperature and steam pressure is spot on. Before, the temp would wildly fluctuate between 95 to 135. A few times, the safety steam release valve was triggered because the steam pressure on the gauge went as high as 3 bar. After around 20 minutes of heating on initial power on, The steam pressure would go up to around 2.5 bar. When I purge the grouphead, it would take as much as 20 seconds to let all the steam out and get the steam pressure back down to under 1.5 bar. After that, the machine would stay somewhat in the 120 to 121 temperature range. I emailed Lelit and they indeed said that is not normal. I attempted this yesterday and have powered it on from cold every few hours for 3 times to check and it's be good. Hopefully this helps another Lelit owner out there. I am so glad my machine is fixed... for how long it will be good... that I don't know.A The suggested fix by Jim worked perfectly for us. We the same problem and the buildup on the temp sensor seems to be to blame. Fix was easy and took < 30 minutes.

It is best to get a grouphead thermometer as every machines rate of heat loss at the grouphead is different.
Purchased a refurbished PL62T
When pulling shots, the machine often tries to refill the boiler and drops the pressure to about 4bar from the desired 9bar. The way to remedy this has been to draw some hot water from the hot water wand (~2oz) just before pulling each shot. This has been working most of the time. This has been going on for over two months.
Today the machine has been tripping my ground fault breaker in my kitchen. I verified that the problem was with the espresso machine.
I pulled the cover off of the machine to see if anything looked damaged or burned or shorted but everything looked fine. I wiggled all of the wires at their connectors to see if something was loose or perhaps burned. It seemed like all of the connections were OK. I turned on the machine with the cover off starting with it about room temp. When the machine got to about 200F, a couple of tablespoons of water came out of the relief valve (small stainless plunger - not sure what it is called) on the top of the boiler and soaked the top of the boiler. This water then started to boil and seemed to soak all of the connectors at the top of the boiler. It quickly boiled away. There was not enough water to fully drip down the side of the insulation on the boiler and reach the counter - but close to it.
I then pulled two shots, cycled the machine power, pulled another shot, and could not get the ground fault breaker to trip again. An hour later I tried again and everything still worked OK. I wonder if the problem could have been loose or corroded wiring? Is the water release at the top of the boiler during the heating cycle normal? Any thoughts on trying to prevent future problems?

If you are using pure water, the boiler may be overfilling, and there is extra spritzing at the vacuum valve. We have another article for this. This is probably why the brew pressure drops when extracting. Otherwise, it can be limescale that causes the same problem.

To be honest I installed it but a month later it the boiler temps where getting to hot and it showed some error message.
I stored it away to fix later but I never got to it. Now I looking at it again and the problem is now that the boiler doesn't fill with water.
The water fill probe is correct as when I take it out and put it against the chassis the pump stops. The pump works also but what I noticed is that the water is cycled back to the return line back to the reservoir. It occurred to me that since during the month it worked I did not use the steamer much. So maybe the boiler wasn't working after I replaced solenoid assembly, and it worked because boiler was still full. Anyway is my diagnose of soleniod assembly issue correct? lf so its possible I did miswire? Is there a way to narrow it down to a specific solenoid valve?

The solenoid valve has dried water or limescale that is not allowing water to pass to refill the boiler. This is confirmed by water returning to the reservoir when the machine is powered on. We suggest removing the water softener, running a descaler through the machine for 2 minutes, power down for 20 minutes, let sit for 20 minutes, run more descaler for 2 minutes, power down for 20 minutes. Repeat until you hear the machine refill the boiler and ery little solution is being released from the return hose.
Please note that keeping your machine powered on without the boiler refilling can damage the heating element.

The steam pressure range on the gauge is normal between 0.8 and 1.2 and it depends upon what the PID is set to. The needle will fluctuate while the boiler cools and reheats.
Every customer's outlet has different voltages, and this can impact the performance of the machine. Try to start steaming milk when the needle is higher on the gauge. It also depends upon the temperature of the milk and frothing technique.
Lastly, bleed the steam wand of water built up before steaming milk.

Intermittent low water alarm beeping. Rapping the left side of the machine’s cabinet stops it. Could it be a defective magnetic reed switch? Also, the switch or sensor (below the water tank at the left side) is somewhat loose. Should I open up the machine from the bottom and try to tighten what I am guessing is a lock nut? Could this have any relevance to the intermittent beeping of the audible alarm?

The power switch on my Lelit Mara PL 62T purchased on Feb 2 2020 (order #60210) has become intermittent. Occasionally the switch does does return outward when depressed - it gets stuck in with the power on. After a few tries I have so far been able to get it to come out. It has never felt smooth even when I first purchased the machine. Otherwise it has been a fantastic machine.
Would it be possible to get a switch replacement sent to me? I am handy and would likely be able to perform the replacement myself.

We are sorry to hear this. It may not be the switch itself, but the supporting bracket behind the switch. Please unplug the cord fromt he elctrical outlet. Allow the machine to cool down. Remove the reservoir, then the top panel screws and the lower body panel screws (5 of them). Slide the body panel off towards the back. please check the brack behind the switch and re-attach. If ok, please email us directly with a picture of the inside.
Bought the machine from 1st line for about 3 yrs now. So far so good. Only issue is brew temp at grouphead (Eric's digital temp probe) usually higher than 205F quickly (~1 min) after 12 oz flush. Is there anyway to make it lower and closer to 200F instead of repeated flushing?

The pressurstat should be brought down so the steam boiler pressure gauge reads 0.9 maximum. Limescale also can make it worse as the water can not flow as good through the system.

Yes, this machine uses a hard switch so a smart plug can be used.
My machine is broken and I need to replace the breaker valve (Lelit Bleedervacuum Breaker Valve).
I saw this was not on stock. Is there another valve I can use on the lelit?
If not, when do you expect to have this on stock? If it takes a while I can order it in Europe as well but don't prefer that.

In Dec 2017, I purchased the Lelit PL62T Mara, and it has been great, producing wonderful espresso. Lately, it has developed the following issue: after the machine has been on for a few hours, the pump goes on for a few seconds, and does so every few minutes (so it does it periodically: pump on a few sec, pump quiet for a minute or two, pump on a few sec, pump quiet for a minute or two, ...). Prior to this, the machine would be quiet except for maybe every 30-60 min, the pump would go on. So, something has changed. It has not affected the quality of the espresso, and when I actually use the machine, it goes to 9 bar when drawing espresso. It's just during the quiescent period that the pump goes on/off more frequently. Any advice?

First, the boiler refill valve may have limescale. Limescale is from hard water. The machine may need a descaling and a water treatment plan is needed. Second, the water may have changed and is too pure. Add a pinch of salt into the water reservoir and after several refills, see if the problem is corrected. Third, there may be a loose wire inside making a partial connection. Fourth, worse case scenario and least likely, the brain unit is failing. This is not typical on this model at an early age. However, if there was a surge in the electricity, this could be a cause.A Thanks for the answer. Here is more detail, in case it helps: on your points (1) and (2) regarding water hardness/softness, I use bottled water, Crystal Geyser, which has a mineral content of 90 mg/ml (36mg sulfate, 27mg calcium, 13mg sodium, 6mg magnesium, 6mg chloride, 2mg potassium), and I use the Lelit in-tank water softener; on point (3), if there were a loose wire, wouldn't the problem then not be sensitive to the time in which the machine is on (the problem only occurs after many hours of the machine being on continuously - in fact, if I turn it off and give it a half-hour rest, the problem does not reappear until again it's been on many hours); on (4) same thing, if the brain were failing, why would it be sensitive to total time on (though I could see this happening if the electronics were getting overheated). It could be the pump, but unlikely. It could also be the boiler refill solenoid valve allowing water to backtrack to the pump, OPV, or air release valve. The heat issue indicates a faulty brain unit. However, we could be wrong as the only way to test it is replace it.

I realize one is heat exchange and one is dual boiler and that typically dual boiler is considered better. Also how does the PID work on the heat exchange, I thought PID's don't give accurate coffee temps on heat exchange?

Lelit produces high quality espresso machines. The machines are designed based more on a client's usage. If more steam power is needed or desired for lots of milk, then the Mara is more desirable because the steam boiler is larger in capacity and power. The efficiency of one heating element to heat allows quicker recovery of heat in the steam boiler. The PID controller is on the boiler, and this has an indirect temperature control of the water in the grouphead and coffee extraction. Hence, since this less controlled, the espresso would, in theory, not come out as good a double boiler machine. However, if steaming/frothing a lot of milk, the milk will dilute the espresso.
In the Elizabeth espresso machine, there are two boilers - one coffee boiler for espresso/hot water and one for the steam boiler. The electricity goes to one boiler then the other, alternating between the two, to heat each boiler. 110 volts is not enough to heat both boilers at the same time. Hence, if steaming/frothing a lot of milk, one can run out of steam if making multiple espresso extractions at the same time. The reason is that the espresso boiler usually has priority. However, if making more espresso extractions is desired, the espresso will come out better.

I need a replacement grouphead gasket for this machine (Lelit Mara), and I see that the Faema 8mm gasket is suggested (the original Lelit part is MC930-2, according to the parts diagram). However, I measured the original gasket that came with the Lelit Mara, and it is almost 9mm thick (about 8.8mm to be precise). In fact, if I replace the original gasket with a new one that is 8mm thick, the portafilter swings beyond the "zero point", confirming that 8mm is not thick enough. And so, doesn't this mean that the Faema 8mm is not the right replacement gasket?

Other customers have been successful with the 8mm portafilter gasket for the Lelit Mara espresso machine line. However, if you feel more comfortable with a thicker gasket, we do sell an 8.5mm portafilter gasket.
Right now have a VBM double boiler and a Mara PID HX. I usually don't leave the steam boiler on, just the brew boiler, which is lower in temperature. I have had no scaling problems whatsoever. With the HX, will the water be hotter in one of the chambers? I wonder if I have to worry about scaling because of that. I don't want to use water softener. I use filtered water. Thank you!

Filtered water is not softened water. From the sound of it, you should be ok. However, we suggest using the Lelit softener MC747.

All backflush detergents on our web site are approved for the Lelit Mara espresso machines. However, we do not recommend descaling due to degrading or orings and metals.

Please shut off machine to reset.
Magnetic float tube needs to be on left side.Take out reservoir from machine, empty and make sure the magnetic float moves within the inner tube. Sometimes, limescale can make it get stuck. Fill reservoir 3/4 and put tank up to the light to see if the float moved up. If it did not, the tank may need to be descaled or replaced.
I seem to be having a problem getting adequate pressure. I have a Eureka grinder set to fine espresso so that is unlikely to be the culprit. However, the only time I am able to get the machine to 9 bars is when I am backflushing and even then it will never go above 9bars. Any ideas on how I can diagnose the issue? I am using the Lelit water softner and removed that just to see if that was the issue, it wasn't. I am also pretty good at keeping the machine clean and backflushing when appropriate.

The back flush disc is THE pressure test that the pump can achieve 9 bars or higher (depending upon factory setting of OPV), not have a leak, and show the gauge working.
Unfortunately, this is
a grinder issue,
grind fineness issue,
amout of coffee in the basket issue,
a tamping issue,
or a combination of any the aforementioned concerned areas. Please keep in mind the brew pressure gauge is not a pump pressure gauge, but a gauge to measure the resistance of the ground coffee in the filter basket.

It is best to check the cord with a continuity tester to confirm the cord is defective.

Sorry to hear about this. It could the reservoir needs more water. It could also be the float in the reservoir is getting stuck near the bottom, or the wires connected behind the power switch have loosened. The last one would mean disconnecting the power cord from the electrical outlet, then allowing the machine to fully cool. The top screws holding the top panel need to be removed. The bottom screws holding the wraparound body panel would need to be removed. All wires inside the machine should be inspected.
Hi 1st Line - we bought the LeLit PL62T in December 2017. We are now experiencing issues with the pressure. The pressure is reading at a 4 and it should be reading between 10-11 I believe. The pump pressure should only be read when making espresso. At all other times, it has no meaning. A pump pressure of 4 bar usually means there is a problem with the grind fineness of the ground beans, the grinder, a water softener in tank that needs to be recharged, an faulty overpressure valve (OPV), a very low possibility of a failing pump (most pumps usually just quit with no in between), or a very low possibility of a faulty gauge (faulty gauges usually do not move at all because there is a blockage in its capillary tube).
To test the pump, put in a blind filter, lift the lever and check to see the pump pressure goes over 8 bar on the gauge. If it does, its the grinder or ground coffee.
If it does not, recharge the (optional) water softener. Check to see when running the pump, the hose is not sucking up against the reservoir wall. Test again with the blind filter.
Next, to clear the OPV and gauge, remove the softener, and put in descaling solution in the tank, keeping the blind in the portafilter, lift the lever for 1 minute and return the lever to the down position. Let sit for 20 minutes. Repeat. Rinse the reservoir and fill with water. If there is a shorter return hose, place outside machine and catch drippings in a container. Rinse for 1 minute with blind in portafilter and lever up. Rest 3 minutes and repeat twice to flush out the descaling solution.
If the issue does not resolve, it can be the pump (rare) or the OPV (rare).
