Brewing technology

- We test this machine with water prior to shipping out. Your machine may arrive wet. Please let air dry for at least 24 hours prior to turning on.
- There can be a white film left over the stainless, depending upon what the manufacturer does. Please do not remove the film until you confirm the machine has arrived in good working condition and without damage.

General Espresso Machine Notes/Warnings:
- Upon first use (tank/reservoir models): On the initial start-up (or after a long period of non-use), it is important to make sure the pump is removing water from the tank. When the machine is powered on, you will hear the pump running. After 5 seconds, squeeze the in-line hose in the tank (usually the longest hose, has a particle filter attached). if you hear a different sound, this means the pump is working correctly. If not, immediately power down the machine and contact us. For more information, visit this page General Manual Pump Priming.
- Electrical: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. Without the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat, or the wiring inside. For more information, visit this page Power Protection.
- Water: To increase the useful life and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled, purified, or reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale. For more information, visit this page Water Choice.
- Descaling: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. Too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine. As a preventative measure, we recommend using softened water as explained in the bullet point above.
- Backflushing: This procedure of cleaning the grouphead will need to be performed from time to time. For more information, visit this page Espresso Machine Backflush – Why 50?

Thanks for your response. Regarding the portafilter with no coffee, it does not get to 90 degrees. Probably an important fact is that out of the box, it never got to 90 degrees and I didn't want to force it, figuring either this would change with use or I'd reach out for a resolution. I do wipe down the dispersion screen after each use, and use the supplied brush to make sure there are no coffee particles in the lips/gasket about once every two days. I have checked and both look clean. What do you think is the best course of action? Bring to your shop for you to have a look, do a backwash without detergent (or with detergent).

It requires a lot of force to get to 90 degrees on a new machine as the gasket needs to be broken in. You will need to use more force holding the machine to get to 90 degrees.
Hi there, I'm interested in purchasing a naked portafilter and an espresso ring for the Rancilio Silva Pro X I bought from you. Please let me know what you'd recommend and I'd like to include baskets for a double shot. Also a question about the portafilter that came with the unit. Using 18 grams of ground coffee, when mounting the portafilter I'm not able to get the handle of the filter to a 90 degree angle from the machine. I haven't forced it as it seems unatural but still get great coffee. Most Youtube video's I watch get to 90 degrees so I'm wondering if there is an adjustment I need to make. Please let me know your thoughts on this. Also, would a new naked portafilter get to 90 degrees?

Other customers have had success with our E61 bottomless portafilter/naked portafilter. Please remember that when using these portafilters, you must coarsen the grind fineness.
As for the portafilter not getting to 90 degrees or 6 o'clock, please try with no coffee in the basket. If it works, then you have too much coffee in the basket, which means you need to go finer grind and less grams of coffee in the basket. If it still does not go all the way, then the grouphead is dirty - gasket or notches for lips need cleaning, or the dispersion screen is full of oil and needs to be backwashed/backflushed. We do have instructions for backflushing. Espresso machines with vibration pumps should have the short backflushing instructions utilized.
Hello 1st-Line. What is the best way to clean the water tubes from the water tank? There are three tubes in my Silvia Pro (which is a fantastic machine), I believe two tubes draw water from the water tank to the boilers, and one is a return tube, but I'm not sure. The tubes are made of clear plastic, so you can see there is a buildup in the tubes, it's sort of dark - maybe mold? I would like to know the best way to clean these tubes. I removed the top cover of the machine, and two of the tubes are fairly easy to get at, but one runs under the boilers. I would rather not take the machine apart to replace the tubes. Would it be OK to fill the water tank with a cleaner, maybe a vinegar/water solution? I want to be careful to not damage the boilers. Please advise on the best way to clean these tubes (hopefully without replacing). Thank you!

This is usually black mold from the environment the machine is located in.
There is a cleaning process that we usually do not perform as we keep bleach/chlorine away from espresso machines.
The below process is offered free and at your own risk of personal injury or physical damages. We suggest wearing protective gloves and protective eyewear.
Unplug the machine from the electrical outlet and allow to fully cool down. The top panel and back panel needs to be removed.
Takes notes and pictures of where each hose connects to.
Remove the hoses from their connections. Allow to soak in bleach/chlorine overnight. Thoroughly rinse the hoses, inside and outside, with running tap water. Then place the hoses for 24 hours in white vinegar to neutralize the chlorine/bleach. Thoroughly rinse the hoses, inside and outside, with running tap water. Reinstall the hoses. Put panels back on and test machine.
I bought this machine (Silvia Pro) from you a little less than three years ago. The hot water has always been a little limp. For instance, the steam boiler drain function would only dispense 100ml or so. Recently it would only put out a dribble and then it completely quit working. I followed the instructions in your video and there was nothing in the valve body. I was able to use a suction bulb to blow air from the spout into the valve and into the boiler so the line isn't clogged. I've only used filtered water in it so I didn't suspect that as a problem. It's a vacation home and gets little use. When I activate the button there is a click at the button but I don't hear any clicks or other noise in the black plastic part of the assembly so I'm guessing that's defective. What should I do next? Do I have to replace all of that assembly or is it possible to just buy the portion of the assembly with the green ASCO sticker that the valve "stem" goes into? I haven't tested to see if electricity is getting to the assembly...but I can borrow a multimeter and figure out how to do that. Thanks

Please note that we are not responsible any injury or damages that may occur and you are proceeding at your own risk. We suggest descaling the Silvia Pro dual boiler espresso machine first. it may be particles partially block the inlet. Second, if you know how and are capable, check the voltage to the solenoid valve. Third, , unplug the machine from the electrical outlet and allow to complete cool down. The valve should be removed and the spring (shaft) mechanism should be checked inside the internal plunger for ease of mevement.
Hello, 1st-line Equipment! I’m not sure if there is solution available for this problem but wanted to send an email to ask just in case! I was wondering if there is a part that I might be able to order to dampen the sound of the steam boiler pump in my Rancilio Silvia Pro to be quiet like the brew boiler pump, or if there is another solution to the noise problem that you might know about. Thanks so much!

All we can suggest is that both pumps be checked to make sure they are not touching any part of the frame or other parts inside. Sometimes, they shift in shipping.
