Rocket Espresso, Cappuccino, & Coffee Center

In the late 1970’s Friedrich Berenbruch and Ennio Berti attempted a coffee revolution, they formed ECM (Espresso Company Milano) and developed the world's first commercial quality domestic espresso machine the Giotto. It quickly became the finest domestic machine to grace kitchens of the world. In 2007. ECM (Espresso Company Milano) decided to concentrate on their commercial espresso machine range.

The domestic machine range, the classic Giotto and Cellini machines, got a new lease of life. Jeff Kennedy, an entrepreneurial pioneer of the espresso revolution in New Zealand took up the challenge to revive the Giotto brand. Jeff along with Andrew Meo and Daniele Berenbruch, son of Friedrich, recommenced production of the classic Giotto machine. Giotto, a new classic is reborn from the founders of Rocket Espresso specifically designed for today’s most exacting espresso customer.

ECM produces one of the MOST reliable semi-commercial espresso machines on the market today for home use. The ECM Giotto Classic has almost been 10 years in the running with an exceptional track record. In order to be their own best competitor, ECM now produces the ECM Giotto Premium which has upgraded no-burn steam and water wands, greater industrial strength steam and hot water valves and knobs, and an upgraded internal pressure regulator.

No matter which version you choose, you can not go wrong with either. With the right grinder, such as the matching MACAP M4 and quality espresso beans, you can produce very high quality espresso-based beverages in the comfort of your home.

Buyer Advice: When shopping for the premium version II of the Giotto or Cellini, make sure the company states Premium Plus II or Premium II. If they do not state this, then it is a version 1. In addition, the version II machines have a full round gauge where the version I has a half moon gauge.

Service Notes:

  • Backflushing: The Giotto and Cellini should be backflushed minimum once every 50 espresso extractions using Cafiza (our instructions included with purchase). This is only for cleaning the oils from the grouphead.
  • Descaling: This really is for internally cleaning of the machine. Recommended once every 3 months using Dezcal. However, it can be more or less time depending upon the amount of magnesium and calcium is in your water, how often you use the machine, and how much time you leave the machine powered on each day. Join our email list to get monthly reminders on how to descale the different machines we sell.
