Notes
General Espresso Machine Notes/Warnings:
- Upon first use (tank/reservoir models): On the initial start-up (or after a long period of non-use), it is important to make sure the pump is removing water from the tank. When the machine is powered on, you will hear the pump running. After 5 seconds, squeeze the in-line hose in the tank (usually the longest hose, has a particle filter attached). if you hear a different sound, this means the pump is working correctly. If not, immediately power down the machine and contact us. For more information, visit this page General Manual Pump Priming.
- Electrical: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. Without the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat, or the wiring inside. For more information, visit this page Power Protection.
- Water: To increase the useful life and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled, purified, or reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale. For more information, visit this page Water Choice.
- Descaling: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. Too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine. As a preventative measure, we recommend using softened water as explained in the bullet point above.
- Backflushing: This procedure of cleaning the grouphead will need to be performed from time to time. For more information, visit this page Espresso Machine Backflush – Why 50?

For the last 3 weeks, my Sanremo You has had water dripping from the front panel during and shortly after steam wand activation and use. My water source has always been bottled water. I am currently using Rain Fresh Water (www.rainfreshwater.com). I have never used tap water. What do you suggest that I do for this leak?

Briefly reviewing, the link mentions purified water.Purified water is corrosive which can eat away at parts. Furthermore, the machine would not work correctly because it needs minerals to properly regulate the water level in the steam boiler. So, we know the water is not purified, and it is only a guess what minerals and how bad it is.We suggest unplugging the power cord from the electrical outlet and allowing the machine to cool. Please remove the top cover and look for evidence of water leaks. More specific, look for any discoloration on pipes, fittings, etc.and please us photographs of the parts showing leaks.

With the water tank lid open, the clearance height required is about 18.5 inches. To remove the reservoir, a minimum of 20 inches is required behind the top platform of the grouphead. If the top platform is under the cupboards, another 2 inches would be needed to clear the reservoir toward the front of the machine.
This is an impressive machine. Can you help me understand how this machine compares to VA Eagle Prima 1/Single and Bezerra DUO DE?

In general, the San Remo YOU has the capability to pump pressure profile using the paddle on the front to manually save the profiling or one can use the built in profiles. The other 2 machines do not have this feature. The touch screen on the grouphead also offers a lot of functionality.
The Prima has to be selected or ordered as a plumbed in or tank, but can not do both. The Prima has an optional steam wand for an automated steam function.
The DUO DE has a heating element on the grouphead which is in addition to the PID sesnsor on the coffee boiler and steam boiler. The grouphead temperature can not be programmed and is at a set temp by the manufacturer. This model can be plumbed or used with a reservoir. The touch screen also offers many functions.
There is the Sanremo YOU. THAT is a piece of work for sure! Have you had any issues with those? In your opinion, is it built well enough to conceivably last a few years? I’m not sure it could actually make a better cup than the Torre Peppina but it sure has some awesome abilities with the display. Also, I have only had machines that had an exterior of stainless steel. How well do the black and white finishes wear? The wife and I are selling our house to the city for this big development. At least they made a great offer and we are planning to close in a month. Money will not be an issue on upgrading an espresso machine! Just the amount of insanity that I decide to devote to it! Regards, Mark

Hi Mark, both are very good machines. Otherwise, 1st-line would not carry them. From a structural standpoint, the Torre Peppina dual boiler espresso machine is better built and can withstand shipping with small car package delivery companies. The San Remo YOU dual boiler espresso machine must always ship on a pallet due to the rear lower framing.
As for technology, the San Remo YOU stands above the crowd in terms of pump pressure profiling. Pump pressure profiling is adjusting the pump pressure throughout the extraction of the espresso. The Torre Peppina has brew pressure profiling which allows the user to adjust the brew pressure at the grouphead during the extraction. The San Remo YOU is superior in that there are several factory memorized pump pressure profiles and that you autosave the manual version you just created using the small paddle in the front.
As for steaming, the Peppina allows the holding of the joystick to regulate the flow of steam as well as include a few alternate steam tips for those who want to steam lower amounts of milk in a small pitcher. The San Remo YOU has a solenoid valve behind the little lever which is full open or full closed and there is only one steam tip included on the machine. The Torre Peppina further wins in the steam department because at the time of this writing ( August 29, 2024), it is the ONLY espresso machine that allows the user to adjust the water level in the steam boiler through the aircraft grade display on the lower portion of the front panel. The adjustments can be made to have greater steam capacity for entertaining or more water capacity for Cafe Americano beverages that require more hot water in cases where a water kettle is not available.
In terms of self-service in the future, the Torre Peppina is a little easier in removing the panels and accessing parts for replacement.
At the end of the decision making process, either machine can suffice.
