i have just ordered the v and w gaskets for the elektra lever machine that i have. When i replace the old gaskets with the new ones do i need to lightly coat the gaskets with a little silicone?I seem to have read that somewhere in the past. when i was ready to pull the shot,i let go of the lever from the down position and it just shot right back up quickly and shot out quite a stream of water. i removed the spring/lever and piston assembly and checked the gaskets. They looked o.k but it's really hard to assess there condition.any opinion would help.

The gaskets should have some food grade high temp grease, such as PetrolGel. Teh lever coming back up quickly is a result of the fineness of the grind and amount of coffee in the basket. The lever should come up super fast otherwise.
