First, check the magnetic float in the reservoir and make sure it floats up. If not sure, test machine with float propped up to highest position.

Second, the two safety thermostats are usually the culprit. Sometimes, these malfunction and a little shake causes them to temporarily work.

Third, the pressurstat may be on the fritz. If you reached this point, check the contacts and clean the black carbon on the contacts. If there is still an issue, this item may need to be replaced.

If there is still a problem after replacement of the above parts, there is a high chance of bad wiring somewhere within the unit. This is like finding a needle in the haystack and can take hours to find.

We suggest getting multiple quantities of the F15 portafilter gasket and replacing every 6-12 months.

This can be an issue with the gauge itself, or the pressurstat, the heating element, the brain unit as the pressure gauge shows the result of steam that involves the other components. Sorry to hear this as this is usually an issue with limescale. Yes, limescale can build up in stainless steel boilers, and this can happen in as little as 2 weeks. The unit will need to be descaled. The pressurstat should be descaled internally and separately, and may even need to be replaced. In a certain number of limited cases, the pressurstat can fuse the two terminals together which would make the unit constantly heat without stopping.

We are sorry to hear about this unfortunate circumstance. It can be faulty wiring, the pressurstat, both thermostats, the heating element, the water level floating magnet, the water tank sensor, or the heating element. All will need to be evaluated.

Typically when either safety thermostat blows, both need to be changed. Unfortunately, this is usually is not the cause of the issue  of the safety thermostat tripping. There can be other causes, such as the heating element, wiring, pressurstat, or even one case we saw the power switch causing the tripping of the safety thermostats.

a) heating element is defective,
b) wiring is fried,
c) either one or both thermostats tripped or is defective, and/or
d) the pressurstat (pressure regulator) needs replacement.

If one or both safety thermostats above tripped, it means there is an underlying cause in one of the other areas. Based on the age of the machine and severity of diagnosis, it is best a professional check the machine. You can look for a local repair center. Otherwise, it can be shipped into us with a prepaid diagnostic fee. In all cases of shipping, it is best to keep all acessories except the reservoir, AND package well - meaning bagged, double boxed, and 4" of bubble wrap if you do not have both original inner and out shipping cartons.

If there was a pump issue, you would hear the pump making this noise while making espresso.

The OPV (overpressure valve) is a mechanical part that uses a resistance spring and closing gasket. The screw on the outside determines the pump pressure at which allows the excess water to flow. When the system is pressurized and the pump is on while the grouphead portafilter has the blind, the water needs to exit somewhere. It will exit through the OPV.

If the OPV was faulty (stuck in the open position), your pump typically would not extract the espresso as the OPV would allow all the water pressure to exit the OPV. If the OPV was faulty (not opening), there would be no water exiting the spout on the front panel behind the grouphead 3-way exit valve.

The only way for the spring to be defective (open or closed) is age (wear and tear makes it open sooner) and/or limescale (keeps it open at the gasket or closed from not allowing the spring to move to open).

As a precaution, we suggest you descale the OPV by using the backflush method just in case there is some limescale in your valve.

It sounds like the OPV opening because the water has no where to go once the blind filter fills up with water.

As advised, try to limit water line pressure to 22-24psi and turn down the OPV setting to 9 bar or near it.
