ECM Technika Profi IV Switchable Espresso Machine
1st-line was the first to carry the Technika Profi tank model in 2012, and we asked ECM Germany to manufacture a switchable model that was released later that year. Unlike some internet-only companies, 1st-line stocks parts in the event that the machine needs to be serviced. Check out our espresso parts section to see! And, if you buy the machine from us, we offer huge discounts on these prices.
The ECM Technika Profi IV espresso machine meets form and function with its design in Germany and manufacturing in Italy.
The ECM Technika Profi IV espresso machine can switch between a reservoir/tank mode and a direct water line connection. The newest feature is the stainless steel guide rails placed on the black frame so the drip tray does not scratch the black paint on the side rails.
Compared to the ECM Germany Barista, the Technika has wider and refined body panels, upgraded portafilters, and joystick controls for the steam/hot water valves – all of which ultimately cost more to produce.
Although some may call this the Rolls Royce of filter holder machines, it is. For one, Rolls Royce cars are very expensive and they eventually do need repairs – like any espresso machine. Therefore, it is important to purchase from a quality dealer who can service the machine and has the spare parts to service their customers – not one that just sells you a machine.
Features:
Heat exchange system:
- Stainless steel, insulated – The boiler is made of stainless steel which is less susceptible to limescale. Typically stainless steel boilers do not retain their heat as well as copper or brass boilers. This machine compensates that by being wrapped with insulation.
- Pull a shot & steam milk at the same time – Steam is always readily available. Hence, there is no wait time going from coffee to steam mode.
- High-quality heating element – Produced with a stainless steel flange (the part which connects to the boiler).
- Boiler safety valve – Located on top of the boiler. It opens if the boiler goes into overpressure – usually due to calcification of the pressurestat pipe.
- Dual safety thermostats – Just in case one fails during a potential overpressure situation.
E-61 grouphead:
- Constantly heated – Hot water circulates from the heat exchanger through the grouphead and back to keep the grouphead and your portafilter nice and hot. As a result the grouphead temperature constant and stable when you compare to other groupheads that have a built-in heating element.
- Pre-infusion – Lever next to the grouphead activates a microswitch which turns on the pump to pump water through the coffee grinds. Pulling the lever halfway up will open the valve to allow water into the grouphead without activating the pump. Please note that true pre-infusion requires the direct water connection whereby the water pressure from the water line creates true pre-infusion.
Separate wands for steam and hot water:
- Multi-directional – Allows for more movement and flexibility.
- 2-hole steam tip – Allows for a slow gradual build-up of microfoam.
- Joystick knobs – For quick instant on/off operation. Can be locked in the full on and off position for hands-free operation.
- Rubber grips – The wands do not have insulation which allows for a better flow of steam / hot water. To move the wands, use the rubber grips.
Rotary vane pump:
- Quiet operation – Rotary pumps are necessary for direct connect capable machines since vibration pumps cannot handle the incoming water pressure. The main benefit that you will experience is that they are a lot quieter.
Construction:
- Body made of polished stainless steel.
- Low profile black feet allow the lowest height capability.
- The overpressure valve (OPV) to release excessive brew pressure.
- Magnetic float in the water reservoir will power off the heating element when the water level is low.
- Full size pressurestat properly configured vertical and away from boiler top.
- Dual gauges offer greater visible at the top and not hidden near the bottom of the front panel. There is one gauge for pump/extraction pressure, and one gauge for steam pressure.
- Removable drip tray and grate made of polished stainless steel.
- Engineering design in Germany and assembled in Milan, Italy by a third party (not ECM Manufacture).
Accessories included:
- Accessories: Single spout 58mm portafilter with single-cup filter basket, dual spout 58mm portafilter with double cup filter basket, plastic tamper, plastic measuring scoop, blind filter basket, backflush detergent, instructional manual & stainless steel water line hose.
- Portafilter holder made of solid brass and plastic handle with the ability to hold 58mm type baskets.
