Lelit PL71 William Espresso Coffee Grinder
Features:
Grinding adjustment
- Stepped – Adjustment dial is located on the top in front of the hopper. The entire dial is numbered so you can remember your current grind setting easier. Turn clockwise for a finer grind and counterclockwise for a coarser grind.
- Tamper stand – The adjustment dial also acts as a tamper stand. It can accommodate up to a 58 mm size tamper.
Grinding burrs:
- Flat burrs – Large size at 50 mm. The larger the size, the more of a grinding surface, resulting in faster production.
Grinding operation:
- Manual – For manual grinding, the button is located on the top to the left of the grinding adjustment dial. Press and hold for continuous grinding, and release to stop.
- Electronic – For on demand grinding, press the plate where the portafilter forks are attached. Push once for a single dose, push twice for a double dose. The on demand grinding is time based, and can be adjusted using the buttons at the botto of the plate.
Bean hopper:
- Low profile – The total height of the grinder without the hopper is a little under 11.5″. The bean hopper adds another 3″ bringing the total height to approximately 14.5″.
- Fingerguard – Prevents users from “accidentally” putting their fingers in the grinding burrs.
Portafilter fork:
- Ease of use – There is an adjustable screw that your portafilter hooks onto. This allows for hands free operation. Accommodates most portafilters. The clearance from the fork to the funnel is approximately 2.25″.
- Coffee chute – The chute can adjusted forward or backward depending on your portafilter.
Accessories included:
- Grinds catch tray – The tray connects to the grinder with a magnet. Sticks out the sides which gives extra protection from spillage.
- Power cord – This cord is completely removable from the back of the machine.
- Instruction manual – Written in 7 languages: English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Romanian, Russian.

- Changing grind settings: As with all coffee grinders, it is very important to only change grind settings when the unit is powered ‘on’ and the burrs are in motion. If you do not do this, the burrs will ‘gunk’ up and require cleaning by you every time this occurs. Changing the grind settings when the burrs are not in motion will render the grinder to only produce very coarse grinds or no grinds at all. If this result occurs, this will be considered operator error for lack of following directions, and not be classified as a defective grinder.
- Finding coffee grinds in a new grinder: We have confirmed that the manufacturer tests EVERY grinder with coffee beans before it leaves their facility, but they are not always able to get every trace of coffee out of the grinders after testing. As a result, you may find coffee beans or grinds inside your grinder, or there may be grinds in the packaging when you unwrap it.
- Static issues: There are static issues with all grinders, even the highest quality models. We firmly believe that the static comes from the coffee beans. If you are having static problems with your coffee grinder, trying using a different blend of beans.
- Replacing burrs: NEVER use a flat head screwdriver and hammer to wedge under the burrs for removal. This could badly damage your grinder.
- Electrical cord: Please note that the electrical cord is placed between the packaging (foam or cardboard) and the underside body of the grinder. During shipping, it is normal for a bend or insignificant blemish / slice to damage the cord.
Espresso Grinder Warning
- CLEANING WARNING: We recommend using grinder cleaning agents. We do not recommend any removal of the burrs or burr carrier for cleaning as re-assembly can cause damage.
- ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso grinder which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. The lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso grinder can be damaged at the power switch, the capacitor, the motor, or the wiring.

I am a customer of yours, and last year ordered a Lelit PL60PLUST Diana, a Lelit William PL-71 grinder along with some accessories. The order # of the espresso machine is #xxxxx, and I believe the grinder was ordered separately within a week or two of the machine order.
I have been having issues with this grinder for a while now. I have never been able to make a proper espresso shot that pulls at 8-10 bar for 20-30 seconds. I have tried multiple espresso beans, I have weighed my doses with a digital scale, measured the tamp, adjusted the grind, and still the grinds appear too course and rush through the espresso machine at about 4-6 bar and at less than 10 seconds for 2 oz of espresso.
I think there may be something wrong with the grinder not grinding fine enough. I have tried adjusting it countless times, and I turn it all the way to where you can hear the burrs start to touch, then take it back until the sound goes away. This is theoretically the finest setting, yet it seems to grind too course. Perhaps the flat burrs are defective and are not perfectly parallel with each other.
Before I had this setup, I had a Rocky Rancilio setup for years, and always had great shots. Honestly, I wish I could exchange this grinder for a Rocky Rancilio Doser grinder. I don't know that anything can be done now, but wanted to reach out to see if there was something that could be done to help me?

All grinders need to be adjusted while powered on and running!!! If not, you can gunk up the burrs and it will grind coarse even at the finest settings.
Change the setting to most coarse. Put in beans, power on grinder, and start to turn the setting finer. Keep going finer and finer while the grinder is running. The grind fineness should get finer. If this procedure does not solve it, then the grinder may need a cleaner run through, such as Puly Grind Crystals.
