Nurri R-Type DB Espresso Machine

Antonio Nurri sent us a prototype of the R-Type Dual Boiler for us to evaluate. The looks are very similar to the HX version, in terms of body style. The same controls for pulling a shot and steaming milk are the same. They have added a gauge on top of the grouphead so you can monitor the bar pressure when pulling a shot. PID controls are also new. Three separate power switches for the machine itself and the 2 boilers allow you to just pull shots or steam milk while giving the other boiler a rest. The PID display you can adjust the temperature of grouphead and the boilers. so temperature stability for your shots are taken care of. Another new feature is the rotary vane pump. Less rattling and noise makes for an overall better experience when operating. Plus you now have the ability to hook up to a water line.

Dual Boiler System

The boiler is made of stainless steel which is less susceptible to limescale. Typically stainless steel boilers do not retain their heat as well as copper or brass boilers. This machine compensates for that by being wrapped with insulation. The boiler also has a drain valve on the right side, and the drain hose is hidden behind the front wall behind the drip tray.

PID Controls

3 different temperature settings between the coffee boiler, steam boiler, and grouphead. Also 3 different power switches for the coffee boiler, steam boiler, and the machine itself. This allows you rest a boiler if not needed.

Brew Pressure Gauge

The single gauge will show the resistance created by fineness of the coffee grind, the amount of coffee in the filter basket, and the tamping pressure.

Rotary Vane  Pump

Quiet operation over a vibration pump. This also allows you to hook up to a direct water line connection.

Cool Touch Steam Wand

Commercial-style wand that can accommodate any size steaming pitcher. The 2-hole tip allows for a slower gradual buildup of microfoam. The steam arm is cool to the touch allowing you to quickly move it around.

General Espresso Machine Notes/Warnings:

• Upon first use (tank/reservoir models): On the initial start-up (or after a long period of non-use), it is important to make sure the pump is removing water from the tank. When the machine is powered on, you will hear the pump running. After 5 seconds, squeeze the in-line hose in the tank (usually the longest hose, has a particle filter attached). if you hear a different sound, this means the pump is working correctly. • Electrical: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. Without the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat, or the wiring inside. • Water: To increase the useful life and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled, purified, or reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale. • Descaling: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. Too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine. As a preventative measure, we recommend using softened water as explained in the bullet point above.
