Lelit PL82T Kate Espresso Machine with Built-in Grinder

Overview:

The Lelit PL82T Kate marries aesthetics and functionality into one espresso machine. Its compact body combines an espresso machine of the highest level with a professional grinder. Equipped with the exclusive electronic Lelit Control Center (LCC), the PL82T Kate will astonish you with its performances and sophisticated charm.

Single boiler, dual-purpose system
  • Brass – 300 ml boiler is made brass which retains heat better than stainless steel. Typically brass boilers are more susceptible to limescale compared to stainless steel boilers. We highly recommend utilizing the water softener included with the machine.
  • Quick warm-up time – From a cold start, it takes approximately 2 minutes for the machine to reach its set temperature at 200 °F (93 °C). Before this time, the machine modes will not function. It will take another 5 minutes for the rest of the machine (grouphead & portafilter) to fully heat.
Built-in Grinder & Hands-Free Operation
  • Built-in 38mm conical burr grinder.
  • Stepless Grind Adjustment – Micro-metrical stepless grinding settings allow the user to make finite adjustments to grind size. Providing endless possibilities to make the perfect cup of espresso!
  • Portafilter can attach to notch for hands-free dosing directly into the portafilter!
  • Programmable timed dosing for single or double on LCC.
LCC – New Lelit electronic control system
  • LCC (Lelit Control Center) is the brain of the new Lelit espresso machines. It has an elegant, graphic LED display of the latest generation. Not only does it control all the functions
of the machine and allows you to adjust the settings, but also gives valuable tips on how to achieve the best results.
  • Temperature adjustment – Ability to program desirable temperature for coffee, hot water, or steam dispensed.
  • Shot timer – Timed based dosing of single and double shots of espresso.
  • Preinfusion -Enable or disable preinfusion of coffee grounds.
  • Grinding times – Time-based dosing of grinding single and double shots.
  • Low Water Levels – LCC alerts when water levels are low in the reservoir.
Construction
  • Wide passive cup warmer.
  • Stainless steel, push-button switches with backlights when engaged.
  • Wide water tray in stainless steel complete with self-cleaning grate.
  • Brushed stainless steel body.
3-way solenoid valve
  • Instantly dries the grounds into a solid puck in the portafilter after brewing–making clean up super easy!
Vibratory pump
  • Efficient – 41 watts, rated up to 15 bar with air valve bypass. Only 9 bar is needed to extract espresso, and wattage has no correlation to longevity.
  • Cost effective – Pumps will degrade in performance over time. Replacing a vibration pump will be less costly than a rotary vane pump.
Tank / reservoir system
  • Particle filter – Protects the machine from any unseen particles from entering the boiler. Can be removed if you are installing an inline water softener.
  • Auto-shut off – In order to prevents burning out the heating element, the water tank sits on a spring activated plate. Once the water is low, the plate depresses the tank microswitch which turns off the heating element.
Steam / hot water wand
  • Multi-directional – Allows for more movement and flexibility. The wand is equipped with a rubber grip which helps you position the wand without burning your fingers.
  • 1-hole steam tip – Allows for maximum steam power.
  • Rotational knobs – Located on the right side of the machine. Allows for easier control of the intensity.
Pressure gauge
  • Backlit Brew (pump) pressure gauge – Located above the LCC. Measures between 0 – 16 bar. The optimal range is between 8 – 12 bar.
Accessories included with the PL82T Kate:
  • Portafilter – 1 dual spout portafilter with Lelit’s distinct Coffee Slide design. Coffee slides towards the front of the portafilter versus the sides, like traditional portafilters.  The handle is designed with an angle that allows it to rest on a flat surface. This eliminates the need for a tamping station. The Lelit logo is imprinted on the portafilter head and handle.
  • Filter baskets – 1-cup filter basket which holds approximately 7 grams. 2-cup filter basket which holds approximately 14 grams. Blind filter basket which is used for backflushing. 58 mm in diameter.
  • Tamper – A cheap plastic tamper, common for most espresso machines to keep overall selling price of machine low. We recommend upgrading to a better tamper.
  • Scoop – Simple plastic scoop if using preground coffee.
  • Water softener – Helps reduce limescale buildup in your machine. Highly recommended to the replace the existing particle filter and install this water softener.
  • Instructional manual – Written in 7 different languages (English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Romanian, Russian). Instructions also work for the Lelit PL81T Grace.

Espresso Machine Warning:

  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. the lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat or the wiring inside.
  • WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
  • DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.

Espresso Grinder Warning:

  • CLEANING WARNING: We recommend using grinder cleaning agents. We do not recommend any removal of the burrs or burr carrier for cleaning as re-assembly can cause damage.
  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso grinder which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. The lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso grinder can be damaged at the power switch, the capacitor, the motor, or the wiring.

Info-Notice:

  • Please note that Lelit tests every Kate with coffee. Although they clean the machine, they can not remove all the ground coffee in the grinder and chute. It is guaranteed that coffee grinds will exit the chute in shipping. To make matters worse, we do test every machine with water to make sure the pump does not have an air pocket. Since we can not remove all the water from the machine, we do leave the steam wand open to prevent freezing water from damaging the boiler. The end result may seem like a used machine shows up being wet and with coffee grinds. However, they are new and should not be used for a minimum of 24 hours to allow the machine to air dry.

Normally, we do not recommend cleaning the grinder if there are no issues. The reasons are that grinder cleaning tablets can clog the grinder and taking it apart has made it difficult to the grinders back together. Hence, it is operating satisfactory, please leave it alone. The inside of the bean hopper should be wiped weekly with a moist (non-dripping) terry cloth.

    4. We bought our Lelit Kate in January and she made beautiful shots until recently. We have not changed any settings, coffee beans, or tamp. The pressure is not reaching 8 bars and the espresso is flowing through the portafilter very quickly. The shot is very long and bitter. I have been maintaining the regular backflush schedule. I have attempted to change the grind settings, but with no luck. Any tips on how to get the machine to reach pressure?

This usually happens when someone is changing settings when the grinder is NOT running. It can also happen when humidity levels change with a season change or someone sets the grinder way to fine.

Change settings coarser while grinder is running without beans. This will probably be about 10 full rotations.

Pour in some beans, and slowly turn adjustment knob ONLY WHEN GRINDER MOTOR IS RUNNING! Bring down to a finer setting and test.

    8. Hello, when I recieved my Kate it came with two steam nozzles, I thought I had placed the second in a safe location but its gone missing. I looked on the parts page and on the diagram as requested but I do not see it listed on either. How can I purchase or order a replacement? In fact I would prefer to purchase a couple that way I can have one while cleaning the other. Thanks

The  bean hopper is secured with 4 screws. Only ways to remove the beans are

      a) Vacuum out the beans, or
      b) Grind all the remaining beans, or
      c) Unplug machine from electrical outlet, remove water reservoir, remove drip tray and cover, and allow machine to cool down. Remove top bean cover and tilt machine to manually remove the beans.

Please note that most beans hoppers are secured to avoid damage and injury.

Take to a coarser setting as it is probably set too fine. Some customers will set it too fine to compensate for the lack of enough ground coffee in the filter basket.
