  • WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
  • DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.

I purchased a Pavoni Professional 16 cup from you on 9/15 (order # 243073). I received the machine on Friday 9/24 and started using it on Sat 9/25. The first problem came during the initial cleaning. After about 4-5 minutes, large amounts of steam and suds started coming from the pressure release valve, primarily near the nut, but also out the tube. I turned the machine off and we tried again after about 10 minutes. After we rinsed the boiler and cleaned up the mess, it seemed to work fine and we pulled 2 shots. On Sun 9/26 everything seemed to work fine and I pulled 2 more shots with no incidents. On Mon 9/27, I turned the machine on and after 4-5 minutes, large amounts of steam started coming out of the pressure release valve, again where the nut is, and continued for 4-5 minutes before I turned the machine off and noticed just about all the water showing in the site glass was gone! I’d filled it prior to turning on, so I’m assuming most of the boiler’s water content, came out as steam!? We waited around 10 minutes or so, tried again, and same thing - very large amounts of steam and again from the nut on the pressure release valve. I think there is clearly something wrong here. Please advise on what to do. Thank you. Bill Please advise on what my next step should be. I

A I found this to be a fairly common problem and easily fixed as was shown on several you tube videos. Too bad 1st line equipment could not have offered some customer service and passed along what would have been a pretty short email response.
    2. We ordered the PRE-Millenium Edition: La Pavoni 52mm Bottomless Portafilter from you. Arrived and works fine. One question - can you tell us who makes the filter basket that came with the Portafilter. We would like to order another matching basket. We believe it is an Elektra basket but there was no information in the package to identify make/model of the basket.
