Illy Collection – Louise Bourgeois Set of 4 Espresso Cups
To celebrate 10 years of illy collection, illycaffe pays homage to Louise Bourgeois, emblematic figure of contemporary art with the exhibit “le jour la nuit le jour” (Paris, Palais de Tokio, October 2002) and with this homonymous illy collection. The four messages bring us back to the innumerable facets, interpretations and memories of her long life as woman and artist. The pink and blue arise the childhood theme, recurrently cited or implied in her works of art, often in a tormented way.
Louise Bourgeois was born in Paris in 1911. In 1938 she moved to the USA, where she continued her artistic studies and began to establish herself by exhibiting in numerous American galleries. In the 1940’s, her focus was on creating sculptures. Her creations were mainly made of wood, reproducing abstract and organic figures. In the 1960’s she began to use other materials such as rubber, bronze, and stone. Her sculptures became bigger and bigger and even more expressly referable to a dominant theme, her childhood. Her works of art have been exhibited in many museums worldwide.
In 2010, Louise Bourgeois passed away in New York.
