ECM Elektronika II Profi HX Switchable Espresso Machine

The ECM Elektronika II Profi has the same quality features as the Technika such as an E61 grouphead and rotary vane pump. In addition, the Elektronika has a row of programmable buttons that dose out a preset amount of water. You can also connect to a direct water line so you won’t have to constantly fill a water tank.

Electronic controls

  • Automatic controls – There are 4 buttons that allow you to make espresso. Each of these buttons is reprogrammable to your own settings.
  • Semi-automatic control – In addition to the automatic buttons, there is also a semi-automatic dosing button.

Heat exchange system

  • Stainless steel, insulated – The boiler is made of stainless steel which is less susceptible to limescale. Typically stainless steel boilers do not retain their heat as well as copper or brass boilers. This machine compensates that by being wrapped with insulation.
  • Pull a shot & steam milk at the same time – Steam is always readily available. Therefore there is no wait time going from coffee to steam mode. Works well if entertaining a small group of people.

Separate pressure gauges

  • Steam pressure gauge – Located on the left. Measures from 0 to 3 bar. Optimal pressure is between 0.8 and 1.1.
  • Brew pressure gauge – Located on the right. Measures from 0 to 16 bar. Optimal pressure is between 8 and 10.

E-61 grouphead

  • Constantly heated – Hot water circulates from the heat exchanger through the grouphead and back to keep the grouphead and your portafilter nice and hot. This keeps the grouphead at a constant, stable temperature compared to other groupheads that have a built-in heating element.

Rotary vane pump

  • Quiet operation – Rotary pumps are necessary for direct connect capable machines since vibration pumps cannot handle the incoming water pressure. The main benefit that you will experience is that they are a lot quieter.
  • Adjustable – No need to remove the body panel to access. The adjustment screw is accessible underneath the machine.

Switchable from a water tank to direct water connection

  • Easy transition – After hooking up the water line (included) to your machine, all you need to do is activate a switch. The switch is behind the drip tray on the left side. Turn to the “1” position.

Steam & hot water wands

  • Joystick handles – Easily pull in any direction for quick activation. Both joysticks will also lock in any position for hands-free operation.
  • Multi-directional – Allows for more movement and flexibility.
  • “No burn” – Both wands are insulated to allow you to touch anywhere on the arm. However, the tip and connection are still hot. Please also note that after very long periods of steaming or pouring hot water, the arm will be too hot to touch. We recommend to only touch the rubber grips on each wand.
  • 2-hole steam tip – Allows for a slow gradual build-up of microfoam.

Accessories included

  • Portafilters – Single spout portafilter and a dual spout portafilter. Both handles match the style of the grouphead lever and are ergonomically designed with an angle for easy operation to lock into the grouphead.
  • Filter baskets – 1-cup filter basket which holds approximately 7 grams. 2-cup filter basket which holds approximately 14 grams. Blind filter basket which you can use for backflushing. All baskets are 58 mm in diameter.
  • Tamper – Solid 58mm tamper. No need to upgrade.
  • Cleaning brush – Used for cleaning the grouphead. Ergonomically designed with an angle for easier usage. The neck has special ridges to keep hot water from dripping to your hand.
  • Hose – Stainless steel braided. For connecting to a water line.
  • Instruction manual – Written in both German and English.

Espresso Machine Warning:

  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. the lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat or the wiring inside.
  • WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
  • DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.
  1. E61 Flow Control: Please note that the Elektronika is not compatible with the E61 Flow Control.

      2. I have purchased ECM Electronika II profi about a year ago. In the past few weeks, the machine stopped making crema on the settings that made crema before. Also, it takes much longer for the water to start coming out from the machine. Any suggestions will be appreciated

      Yes, try changing your grind settings when there is a change n seasons and humidity levels.
      3. A couple of weeks ago the safety thermostat started venting (slow constant release followed by a big burst, on repeat). I turned off the machine with the boiler pressure gauge reading ~1.5bar. I've since kept a close eye on it to try and reproduce the issue, which it did again but this time was venting when the gauge was reading around 0.75 bar. The boiler pressure gauge seems to be working (it slowly goes down to 0 when off, and increases to between 0.5 and 1 bar when on and working). For the days in between these events, when the safety valve didn't vent, the boiler pressure was stable (so the pressure stat seems to be working). I removed the heating element to check the inside of the boiler, there is no obvious lime scale in there (if there is, it would be quite light I think). I'm in Oakland CA, where the water is very soft, so this shouldn't be an issue. I'm quite comfortable replacing parts myself and would prefer to fix it myself (rather than incur the expense of shipping across the country twice) if possible, and hoping you can provide a little guidance for diagnosis

      Sorry to read this. Please the safety thermostat is a resettable part that does not distribute and steam or hot water. The part you are referring to is the boiler safety valve. When this opens and expends steam AND the boiler gauge reads 1.5 or more, it means the machine is overheating. Overheating is created by limescale on pressurstat or the PID sensor (depending upon version) or the pressurstat is degrading from use.

      The machine go through a descaling process. After descaling, we recommend cooling down the machine, unplugging from the wall outlet, and disconnecting any plumbing.

      The pressurstat should be replaced and the pipe holding the pressurstat should be removed and descaled separately. Reassemble and test.

       
      4. I just purchased this Elektronika II 3-weeks ago as a follow up to the Technika I purchased from you in May 2015 (2015031457). I have 2 questions re. the Technika- 1). the Caldia gauge shows 0.25 bar when the machine is not running and this is the lowest point the gauge will reach even when off for days. Does this mean it needs to be replaced? I noticed our high steam pressure is only 0.9 bar even after I adjust the Sirai switch. Compared to the new Elektronika I just received from you, I see 0 bar on the Caldia when the machine is off and 1.5 bar when steaming. Does this sound like a new gauge is needed? My 2nd question- in my 5-yr old Technika, I noticed that after the machine pressures up, part #11 (C219900561) is engaged with pressure however every 15 seconds of so a small blast of water/air releases out. My understanding is this valve should close when full pressure is reached so does this sound like the seal may have a leak and it needs to be replaced? Thanks for your feedback.

      It sounds like the gauge and vacuum breaker/bleeder valve need to be replaced.

      There are different versions of the same machine by ECM. Profi typically means a switchable model with rotary pump.
