Diagnosis

Based on our customers’ experiences, a hot water valve not dispensing is more than likely due to limescale buildup at the bottom of the steam boiler. The buildup usually starts at the bottom of the steam boiler since it operates at a much higher temperature than the coffee boiler. The reason is that all the limescale slips down the stainless steel boiler and accumulates at the bottom, especially if the hot water valve is barely opened to flush out the water at the bottom.

As a normal preventative measure, at least 4 ounces of hot water should be extracted once per week from the machine. Also, remember the water softener should be recharged once per week and replaced every 6 months.

Process

  1. Remove the water softener and attach the hose to the tank adapter just above the particle filter.
  2. Power on the machine and allow it to fully heat up.
  3. Empty the water tank and fill it with a descaling solution.
  4. Place a safe for steaming water container (large cup, pitcher) below both the steam and hot water wands.
  5. Try running water through the hot water wand by opening the hot water valve
    • If the water flow is underperforming, continually run water until you hear the sound of the boiler refilling. The machine will pull the descaling solution from the reservoir into the boiler. Allow the machine to heat back up to temperature. Let it sit for a minute. Repeat these steps until you get a normal flow of hot water.
    • If there is no water flow at all, close the hot water valve valve. Open the steam valve and allow steam to exit. It can take up to 8 hours for the steam boiler to empty and start refilling with the descaling solution. After 8 hours of steaming, test the hot water valve by opening. Continue this process until you get a normal flow of hot water through the hot water valve.

After the issue is resolved, we need to rinse the descaling solution out the machine .

  1. Empty the remaining descaling solution from the water tank.
  2. Rinse the water tank thoroughly.
  3. Fill the water tank with regular water.
  4. With the machine fully heated, the descaling solution needs to be extracted through the hot water wand at a rate of 4 ounces every 5 minutes.
    • More than 4 ounces can damage the heating element.
    • Not waiting 5 minutes, will run the machine out of steam to push the descaling solution out.
  5. To make sure all the descaling solution is removed, repeat the above steps until 2 full tanks of water have been pushed through the hot water valve.
  6. Run 20 ounces of water through the coffee boiler.
  7. Reconnect the water softener in the water tank reservoir.
