New Dual Boiler from Nurri Espresso

Although Nurri Espresso is relatively new, its owner, Antonio Nurri, has over 20 years of experience in the coffee industry, specifically in espresso. Our relationship with Antonio began in 2012, when he was an export manager at Izzo. After a few years, his passion led him to create his own company in 2017, where he began designing his line of espresso machines. After some R&D, they released the Nurri SB, a simple HX tank-only espresso machine. They planned to allow the customer to choose from different body colors, side panels, and accessory knobs. We suggested having the espresso machines separate from the side panels and accessories so the customer could select each of these aspects of their espresso machine. On our website, we built a page where customers can select each option and preview it before purchasing. This gave customers the ability to fully customize their Nurri and not be limited to any preset combinations.

Knowing that there will be a demand for a dual boiler version, Antonio was already working on one.
The following year, he sent us a prototype (the Nurri R-Type DB) for us to evaluate.

At first glance, the machine sticks to the unique Nurri design. The body style is almost identical to that of the HX version. This means the workflow is almost identical. The water tank remains in the same location. Same commercial-grade steam wand and activated with the joystick knob. Shots are still poured by turning the dial above the grouphead. Also, some parts will be interchangeable between the two, like the side panels, the portafilter & steam knob.

Now, let’s take a look at the main features of this Nurri R-Type Dual Boiler.

Features include PID controls and separate power controls for coffee and steam. You can power on only 1 boiler or both if you wish.
Additionally, there are three separate temperature settings: the coffee boiler, the steam boiler, and the grouphead.
NOTE: When pulling a shot, the PID display also acts as a shot timer.

A pressure gauge has been added above the grouphead, which measures the bar pressure when pulling a shot of coffee.
NOTE: There are going to be separate controls for pump pressure profiling.

Looking inside the machine and yep…2 boilers, both stainless steel and insulated.

And a rotary pump.
NOTE: The current prototype cannot be hooked up to a water line, but there is a model in the works to be able to do so.

We took a quick look at the prototype. There were a couple of things we addressed to Antonio when he visited us back in June 2025:

  • The water tank is oriented a little differently. On the HX version, the tank is situated left to right near the back of the machine, which is standard on most machines. On the DB version, the tank is situated front to back near the back right of the machine. This allows you to reach and fill the tank more easily. However, on the inside, there isn’t a guide to help the tank connect properly. We had to wiggle the tank to make sure is was properly connected.
  • When pulling a shot, any excess pressure exits out into the drip tray. This is normal on most machines. However, on this prototype, there was a lot of water that was discharged.

Currently, there is no ETA on when this new R-Type dual boiler will be available. Once we have more info, we will update this page.
