BWT Bestmax Installation Kit
The BWT Bestmax Installation Kit is one of the best in the industry! Why? Because this kit not only filters the water, but softens it through an ion exchange. It’s not good enough to just filter the water! This BWT kit removes the requirement of a water softener.
The other reasons are there is an optional meter to measure how much water goes through the filter (which you can program for the filter size you purchase). In addition, there is a flush valve to rinse the paper sediment from manufacturing before it enters and damages your espresso machine.
The optional hose also makes it easy to connect the BSPP connections of most European espresso machines and BWT systems to your American standard water line connections. Make sure to feed the cold water line into this system as well as regulate the water pressure to between 35 and 40 psi for maximum performance and least problems.

We recently purchased and self-installed a BWT Bestmax “M” in line water filter kit from 1st Line. After some difficulty finding fitting adapters, the install was completed. We are between espresso machines in our home. We decided we wanted to have a separate drinking water faucet with cold and insta hot water at our kitchen sink. We will use the cold to fill our espresso machine tank and not plumb a machine even if it has provisions. We tend to make several pour over cups and 1 or 2 long blacks daily. I installed the BWT filter head under our kitchen sink. I connected the BWT filter head plumbing to our cold water in coming line via a tee. My shut off ball valve is a 1/2″ compression fitting . My faucet connection is a 1/2 FIP fitting. I could not find a tee locally. I had to special order a tee with a 1/2″ compression 1/2″ compression 3/8″ compression to fit the optional SS braided hose offered by 1st Line. The connection end for the BWT filter head is British BSPP and difficult to find in the U.S. The optional line from 1st Line has a BSPP connector on one end which was connected to the inlet of the BWT. I then special ordered a 3/8 BSPP/1/4″ push in fitting from another espresso machine dealer (sorry)for the BWT head output. I used a plastic 1/4″ ice maker line provided from the cold/insta hot faucet. We tested our “city” water hardness with a chemical test kit both before and after our whole house Aquasana filter. Hardness was the same both before and after this filter which is primarily for removal of chlorine at 114 g/ml. We then tested from the newly installed BWT system which resulted in 55g/ml. We are quite happy with the result. The water is crystal clear, tastes different and is delicious. We are health conscious and quite happy with the BWT added magnesium. We are now ready to order a new espresso machine and are confident the water quality will make descaling unnecessary. We are currently using the BWT filtered insta hot to expedite our daily pour overs. Looking forward to a new Lelit Bianca.
