Elektra Microcasa a Leva S1/S1C/S1CO Espresso Machine

If you want exceptional espresso and an espresso machine that makes minimal noise in the morning, then you found the perfect machine – the Elektra Microcasa a Leva Espresso Machine. Although some people will contest that it is more difficult to make espresso with these lever machines, this is really not the case because the spring in the piston makes consistent pump pressure at each point from one pull to the next. Once again, for exceptional espresso, choose Elektra!

MicrocasaLeva-01

Manual Lever Operation

  • Spring piston-operated grouphead – Lever starts in the upward position, the user pulls down against spring until coffee fills the bottom of your espresso cup, then the lever is slowly released and the spring in the piston pushes the lever to pump the water through the coffee grinds. If making double, it is important to pull the lever down a second time at the halfway point and released.
  • Brass piston – While other machines may have plastic pistons in the grouphead, the Elektra Microcasa Leva has a brass piston to house 2 piston gaskets. Plastic pistons can get brittle and crack over time with all the heat in the grouphead whereas the brass piston in the Elektra is a great add-on to maintain heat within the grouphead.

Single Boiler System

  • Durable brass – Provides exceptionally dry steam for creating microfoam.
  • Water level sight glass – This indicates the level of water in the boiler. Helps when filling the boiler to prevent overfilling.
  • Armor-plated heating element – Rated at 800 watts.
  • Pressure gauge – This shows steam pressure in the boiler. The needle in the green zone indicates optimal time to extract espresso. Standard pressure ranges anywhere between 0.8 – 1.3 bar.
  • Boiler pressure relief valve – This is located on top of the boiler for safety.
  • Internal pressure regulator – Automatically regulates the temperature.
  • Built-in safety thermostat – Prevents meltdown if left without water – please note that you can still damage the heating element if the machine is run dry (without water).

Beautiful Design

  • Handcrafted finish – Each Elektra Microcasa Leva is carefully handcrafted which makes each one unique. Available in 3 different body color variations/plated finishes: Art.S1 is copper and brass, Art.S1c is all chrome, and Art.S1CO is chrome and brass finish.
  • Hand crafted polished chrome eagle – Sits on the top dome. Our units have the eagle with wings UP!
  • Large, round base – Approximately 10″ diameter. This helps keep the unit steady when pulling the lever down.
  • Drip tray – Easily removable from the base. The finish of the grill matches the finish of the boiler.

Notes

Espresso Machine Warning:

  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. the lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat or the wiring inside.
  • WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
  • DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.

Warning for Elektra Microcasa a Leva Espresso Machine:

Please make sure the sight glass is the field between a minimum of 25% and 75% at all times during operation. If the water level lowers below the 25% mark, damage can occur to the machine.

  1. Warning: Do not pull the lever down without holding the portafilter installed in the grouphead and filled with very fine ground coffee. Failure to do so will cause damage and personal injury.
  2. Caution: All surfaces are hot and can cause burns.
  3. Assembly Required: Steam wand needs to be attached and tightened with a wrench. Eagle needs to be attached to dome and lever handle needs to be attached to grouphead by owner.
  4. Water choice: It is very important to use 'softened water' in these machines, as well as all espresso machines. Hard water will cause these machines to malfunction, and Elektra will not cover the parts due to hard water. In addition, it is extremely important to run the a leva and semiautomatica machines with water at least 25% full in the sight glass. Running these models with a water level lower than this can cause heating element damage which will not be covered as this is not a manufacturer's defect. If you return the unit with a damaged heating element, you will be charged for the repair, and the repair charge will be deducted from the credit.
  5. Portafilter: The filter handle will explode off if the machine operator places too much coffee in the basket which does not allow the handle to be locked in the grouphead all the way, or the grind is too fine which does not allow the lever's pressure to be relieved. The filter basket will fall out of the portafilter as these machines are hand made. Due to the smaller portafilter size, this machine is not pod-capable.
  6. Boiler pressure: The normal operating boiler pressure read on the gauge is between .75 and 1.2. However, the manufacturer has been asked for machines produced in the USA to set the maximum pressure to approximately 0.9 so the most flavorful espresso can be extracted. Over time, the manufacturer's setting can change as the machine ages. In addition, if the boiler pressure reads 1.4 and up to 1.5, this is a symptom of limescale buildup from calcium/magnesium in the water or oxidation from purified/RO water. In this case, the machines will need to be descaled and the pressurestat will need to be replaced after the descaling. Limescale buildup or oxidation can occur in as little as 1 week from use.
  7. Body finish: Elektra espresso machines feature a high polish finish, with materials ranging from chome to copper to brass. Most parts are clear-coated. Special attention is required when cleaning. Hash products can eat away at the clear coat or even etch the chromed finish. Descaling solution can eat clean through plating. The exterior color, which includes a clear coat finish, will naturally change as each each Elektra machine ages. This would not be covered under warranty as color changes are not considered manufacturer's defects.
  8. Safety thermostat: There is a safety feature on this machine when water is not pumped into the boiler on initial startup. If this isn't done the safety kicks off and the machine will have to be reset. On the bottom of the machine underneath the yellow cap there is a reset button for the safety thermostat. If you purchased the machine from us and are still having issues, you can email us for instructions.
  9. Maintenance: This machine cannot be backflushed.
  10. Environment: Although this machine would look beautiful in a restaurant of cafe, it is built for home use only.
  11. When you 1st receive the machine: Elektra informed us that every one of their home machines is tested with water and coffee to insure there are no leaks under pressure and to insure proper operation when received by the customer. Although they clean each grouphead to the best of their ability, you may find some coffee grinds in the grouphead or on the machine when dislodged from the grouphead during shipping.
  12. Cup seen in the picture above is not included.
  13. Americanos: This espresso machine is NOT suitable for making americanos since it does not include a hot water wand.

Warranty Information

Who handles the warranty

Eligible warranty for Elektra home equipment is handled by 1st-line Equipment or representative thereof. If you have purchased your Elektra equipment from another retailer (not 1st-line Equipment), you must contact them first in order to get your equipment serviced under warranty.

What does the warranty cover

The warranty is limited to manufacturer’s defects only.

Regarding espresso machines: Limescale buildup can lead to problems with your machine. The warranty will not cover any repairs if our technicians find limescale in your machine. Although descaling can be a good alternative to remove limescale causing minerals (calcium and magnesium), we strongly suggest that prevention is the best form of maintenance. The reason is that descalers can cause wear and tear on components inside an espresso machine. This includes gaskets, o-rings, and other metal components. However, where there is a clog somewhere, descaling will be a necessity on the specified part, area, or entire machine.

Regarding coffee grinders: As with all coffee grinders, it is very important to only change grind settings when the unit is powered on and the burrs are in motion. If you do not do this, the burrs will ‘gunk’ up and require cleaning by you every time this occurs. Changing the grind settings when the burrs are not in motion will render the grinder to only produce very coarse grinds or no grinds at all. If this result occurs, this will be considered operator error for lack of following directions, and not be classified as a defective grinder.

When does the warranty expire

The manufacturer’s warranty on new equipment is good for a period of 1 year from date of receipt which covers parts. Labor warranties may vary depending on the company you purchase from. Elektra products may have an extended warranty limited to manufacturer’s defect and will specifically state the extended period of time on your receipt.

Where will my equipment be serviced

In most cases, your Elektra equipment must be sent to a repair facility. If 1st-line Equipment will be servicing your equipment, you must either ship it or drop off at our facility in New Jersey.

How do I send in my equipment in for repair

If you are inside the warranty period and have purchased it from us, please contact us. Please be ready to provide the following information: invoice# of purchase, model of equipment, and a detailed description of the issue.

If you are outside the warranty period, whether you have purchased the equipment from us or not, please order a diagnosis. Please note that wait times can be up to 8 weeks. Our technical support staff can have a back log of repairs. As an alternative we have a listing of 3rd party repair companies across the USA that can assist you.

Finding your part
  • Please use the parts diagrams provided below to determine the part(s) you need. Then use our search box above to find the part(s) on our website. If no results come up, more than likely we do not stock the part.
  • If uncertain, please go to the equipment model or part product page. Then use the Q&A tab found on that web page to ask your question.
  • Lastly, and only if the first 2 options were exhausted, please use our parts inquiry page.
  • Our call center does not have the training to handle parts inquiries for over 60,000 different parts items. Asking any questions regarding parts will more than likely result in you being referred to the above steps.
  • Please note also that all parts purchases are non-returnable or refundable and do not include technical support, instructions, or warranties as the purchase price of any part does not cover the cost of technical support. Technical support is available for repairing equipment in our shop.
  • Sorry, we will only special order a part for a model we carry AND was purchased through our supply chain.
  • Since we are unaware of the mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing expertise of a parts buyer or the tools owned by a parts buyer, we are never able to advise if a self-repair can be performed.

I have a micro casa a leva that I purchased in 2019. The machine has stopped working. Won’t heat up. Pressed the reset button. Light goes on but does not heat I am located in the Denver area and cannot find anyone to repair or diagnosis it. Any way for you to diagnose from what I said? Because if it’s the heating element I can probably replace that. I was referred to you by the company I purchased the machine from.

    12. A few Months Back I purchased a Heating Element and Gasket Kit for my Elektra. All the gaskets went in perfectly and machine was up and running. I noticed right away that the Two Gaskets for the Piston seemed to be a harder material than original, but didn't think much of it. However, from day one the Piston movement is no longer a smooth motion. When you move the lever Down and the piston comes up, you can hear a Rubber on Metal noise chirping along the wall of the Cylinder . The only way to get fairly smooth operation is to Grease the components every few days. This doesn't seem right to me, and I was wondering if there have been other complaints or issues. Possibly the Rubber compound from your supplier was faulty. purchased 09/24/2021

Purified water can remove the grease from the gaskets. Also, it has to be high temperature food grade grease, like PetrolGel. The gaskets are not fault because we have installed and sold other ones from the same batch without issue. Hence, we have provided the reasons.

    16. Hello, I received my Elektra machine yesterday and had a couple questions: 1. The brass on the roller pin (on the lever) and the brass that it rolls across is wearing already (I have a photo but can't attach a picture here). It seems to have worn through all the brass already. Is this normal? Seems like it shouldn't be wearing through after making 4 shots. 2. I noticed a bit of thin plastic film on the portafilter and a piece seems to have made its way into one of my drinks. I followed the instructions in your initial set up video, but was there another hidden piece of plastic film I may have missed removing?

Sorry, this machine is verve old and usually there will be repair creep - as on thing is repaired, it opens up another issues. Even a descaling can cause a new problem. Hence, we do not support machines this old and Elektra has advised the same in the past. In addition, prior to 2005 and 1995, there can be different parts compared to the versions in the last 10 years. Again, sorry for the outcome.

Either the screen is clogged, the coffee ground too fine (yes, you need to change settings when the seasons of batch of coffee changes), or there is a blockage upstream in the grouphead. All three needs to be determined for the cause you are having.

It looks like the rubber washer on the tip comes with it. I have lost the rubber tip on mine and I guess that is how I must replace. My machine heats milk but does not froth it. Since the unit can not be backflushed, the best alternative is flushing CleanCaf through the boiler and grouphead. The screen and gasket can be removed for manual cleaning, but there is the possibility of damage, which this is not covered under warranty.

    32. I bought my Elektra from you some years ago and I'm hoping you can help with a problem. On start up, it consistently leaks about a cup of water. The drip is significant. If I pull the handle down momentarily and then let it up, it slows the drip. I changed the gaskets and that seemed to fix it but a few weeks later, it began the leak again. Once it gets up to pressure, the leak stops. I didn't have this problem the first couple years I had the machine

Answered by the admin Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, there may be limescale build up or matter that is causing the piston gaskets to slightly tear. Once it heats up, the expansion creates a better seal. Otherwise, the inside of the grouphead could be worn down, but this only happens under very heavy usage.

The apartment I will be renting won’t allow me to attach any sort of water filter to the plumbing. I remember reading that reverse osmosis and distilled water isn’t good for the machines. Do you have any recommendations for pitcher type water filters? I currently buy and use your BILT Osmotic Scale Reduction cloth packs but I don’t think that is sufficient for the Los Angeles public water. Thanks in advance for any advice you can share.

Not every time but very often after the machine has heated up, when I pull the lever nothing happens. The machine is hot. The light is off and the pressure gauge is usually around 1.3. It seems that there isn't enough pressure to push the espresso out even though the gauge says otherwise. Then after some time I might get it to work or I shut it off and let it heat up again and then it might work.

This could be a stuck bleeder valve on top of the boiler. Push the pin down and see if it was stuck.

It could be the grinder was too fine.

It could be a bad heating element that is shorted to ground. Please plug into a GFI outlet. If it trips, the heating element is damaged or defective.

This happens every once in a while on newer machines.

In general, the knob should not be overturned nor forced. It is made of plastic to diminish the possibilities of burning oneself.

If the knob becomes stiff to turn, it is possible that the ball joint valve inside needs NSF approved food grade lubrication with Petrolgel. With the machine cold and unplugged from the electrical outlet, the steam wand nut and steam wand need to be removed by placing a cloth over the nut and using a crescent wrench - sometimes a crescent wrench needs to be placed on the inner side of the valve to hold it from spinning. Put some Petrolgel into the steam valve and turn the valve back and forth to work in the lubrication. Work in more if still stiff. Put back the wand and nut. Hand tighten and then 1/8th turn with a crescent wrench.

Sorry, we do not get involved with conversions, not how to power 220 volt espresso machines brought in from outside the United States. Due to the amount of labor and special ordering of spare parts, it is not worth the cost to changeover.  Due to liability reasons, we can not offer any suggestions because our suggestions may cause damage to the existing components due to the differences in ohms. Again, sorry we are unable to assist.

Please use softened water, not RO, distilled, nor purified water as oxidation occurs. You can turn tap water into soft water by using our Oscar150 cloth. Try not to descale espresso machines as descalers eat the metals and the gaskets.

Run CleanCaf once a month through the machine. Gaskets in the grouphead should be changed every 12-24 months or when they start to leak.

Sorry, the leak is not specific enough where the leak is occurring. Steam wand? Grouphead? Pinhole behind grouphead? Boiler to grouphead attachement? Base on bottom? Boiler cap?

    60. Hello, My Elektra Microcasa a Leva has been beginning to leak water. I've just ordered -- in two batches -- some gaskets, and I hope this is the cause. Recently, it was tripping the wall breaker, and when I opened it up, saw enough water in there that I thought it might be related. In the first order, I purchased some grouphead gaskets -- but then later saw a boiler gasket for the bottom. And, since this was most near where the moisture was likely shorting the electrodes, thought that this specific gasket might be the central problem. So I just purchased the entire kit -- though I will surely have some duplicates. Here is my question, though the purchase (to this point) is already complete: Would you also concur that it's likely these gaskets, particularly the boiler gasket, that may have allowed leaking -- and more specifically, thereby tripping the breaker? (When the machine dried out, it didn't trip; but by the time it heated again, did, with moisture on the bottom again.) Or do you suspect some other part is failing? Also, in the gasket kit, there seems to be a couple of gaskets I don't recognize from the pictures, perhaps related to the water sight glass. I have the sleeves off, and the top and bottom bolts loose, but the glass seems fixed; and I'm reluctant to apply too much pressure for fear of breaking the glass (and requiring a third purchase.) Might this be a, "if it's not broken, don't fix it" type thing? And would this be where the other white-looking gaskets go? Thanks. The machine, btw, was purchased from you in around 2015

Most likely it is not the gaskets if in the bottom of the machine. It is most likely limescale. If limescale damaged the brass, then new gaskets will not help.

As for specific questions about the parts, please ask on the parts page for the kit or individual gasket page.
