Grinding Adjustment

Stepped adjustments giving you a wide range of grinding from fine to coarse. Easier to go back and forth between different grind settings.

Quiet operation

Generally not higher than 70dB(A). Rubber vibration-dampening feet help keep grinder steady and reduces noise.

The blue tint helps to avoid pre-mature deterioration of beans from light sources (such as sunlight).

This fork is removable so that your container can be placed underneath to catch the coffee grinds. The height clearance for containers is 5.5″.

2 switch activation

The power switch is on the right side of machine. The grinding switch is on front (next to the Rancilio logo). You must continually hold the grinding switch to grind coffee beans.

  1. Each Rancilio Rocky grinder is repackaged by 1st-line Equipment before shipping out to you. Unfortunately, the original internal cardboard packaging by Rancilio can not withstand the rigors of UPS/FedEx, and there were many damaged shipments due to the original packaging not being adequate enough!
  2. The doser cannot be purchased separately to add to this model.
  3. This grinder was designed in Italy to use smaller and less oily beans. You can use large and/or oily beans with machine by removing the finger guard. However you might have issues with large and/or oily beans not feeding into the grinders properly or the machine making a mess.
  4. There is no kit available to convert the doserless model to a doser model.
  5. 1st-line Equipment, LLC is an authorized Rancilio repair center and we handle the warranty repair for Our customers' Rancilio espresso machines! Our master technician alone has over 35 years in the coffee and espresso repair business! This is why so many customers choose 1st-line as their premier choice for Rancilio home products!
  6. Additional features of the stainless steel rocky include a rear body panel in stainless steel and a stainless steel base.
  7. How to find the relative zero or "true" point on the Rancilio Rocky (doser or doserless).
    1. Make sure there are no beans in the hopper.
    2. While the grinder is powered on and running, briefly rotate the bean hopper to to the lowest numbered setting where metal-to-metal is heard.
    3. Immediately back off to a higher setting. The point of metal-to-metal screeching becomes your relative zero point. Note that this point may be higher or lower than the numerical zero point on Rancilio Rocky grinders.
  8. Upgrading the the v3 plastic base and removable tray on a Rocky v2 (doser or doserless) - you will need to order these two parts: 38-123-677 and 38-123-678. there are three screws on the bottom to remove for replacement.

  1. Changing grind settings: As with all coffee grinders, it is very important to only change grind settings when the unit is powered ‘on’ and the burrs are in motion. If you do not do this, the burrs will ‘gunk’ up and require cleaning by you every time this occurs. Changing the grind settings when the burrs are not in motion will render the grinder to only produce very coarse grinds or no grinds at all. If this result occurs, this will be considered operator error for lack of following directions, and not be classified as a defective grinder.
  2. Finding coffee grinds in a new grinder: We have confirmed that the manufacturer tests EVERY grinder with coffee beans before it leaves their facility, but they are not always able to get every trace of coffee out of the grinders after testing. As a result, you may find coffee beans or grinds inside your grinder, or there may be grinds in the packaging when you unwrap it.
  3. Static issues: There are static issues with all grinders, even the highest quality models. We firmly believe that the static comes from the coffee beans. If you are having static problems with your coffee grinder, trying using a different blend of beans.
  4. Replacing burrs: NEVER use a flat head screwdriver and hammer to wedge under the burrs for removal. This could badly damage your grinder.
  5. Electrical cord: Please note that the electrical cord is placed between the packaging (foam or cardboard) and the underside body of the grinder. During shipping, it is normal for a bend or insignificant blemish / slice to damage the cord.

Espresso Grinder Warning

  • CLEANING WARNING: We recommend using grinder cleaning agents. We do not recommend any removal of the burrs or burr carrier for cleaning as re-assembly can cause damage.
  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso grinder which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. The lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso grinder can be damaged at the power switch, the capacitor, the motor, or the wiring.

We are unsure. There may be a motor issue.

    2. Saw your video, but don't see the link to buy the more "airtight" seal for the hopper that holds the beans. If you could provide it please-

We originally ordered those airtight lids from Planetary Design.  Unfortunately, they do not offer them anymore.

    4. In order to change the setting while the grinder is in operation, as prescribed, you need one hand to press the rocker switch and keep the machine on, one hand to turn the hopper, and one hand to press down on the release. I have only the standard number of hands. Can you give us an idea of how to change the grind solo?

Since part numbers can change, we always recommend reviewing the parts diagrams for the part numbers, then searching the part number on our web site's search box for availability and pricing.

    8. I have a Rancilio Rocky Doserless Grinder part number F.N. 65100456. Will the #136.74 grinding chamber you show on your website find my grinder? If so does the price include the grinder?

Although we make no guarantees as Rancilio has made several different versions of the Rocky, we believe it should fit. The only way we will know is if the grinder is sent in for service.

We are unsure what you mean by "If so does the price include the grinder?"

If you are referring to the grinder burrs, please note that Rancilio does not include them with this part number, The grinding burrs are sold separately.

    10. In order for me to obtain the "proper" grind for a particular coffee bean I've been using, I have the adjustment all the way to the finest setting, at which point the burrs sound like they are slightly touching at a particular spot in the rotation. I noticed that the hopper has a very slight wobble, and while grinding at this setting, I noticed that if I wobble the hopper the rubbing of the burrs increases and decreases depending on whether i'm pushing back on the hopper or pulling it towards me. Given the number of threads on the top burr base, I wouldn't expect there to be any play, but there is. 1. Is this normal? 2. The black ring at the base of the top burr insert appears to be worn, does this matter?

Sorry for the delay, we still do not have an answer on the black ring insert.

As for the top burr carrier, the slight wobble is normal. When the motor spins, the grinds between the burrs pushes the wobble out. Although we can advise to do so, some customers have added a little tape to the top burr carrier threads.
