Description

Macap M42D Digital Stepless Doserless Espresso Coffee Grinder

The Macap M42D has the same features as the previous M4 model along with an updated look. Stepless adjustment is now standard on the Macap M42D as opposed to the M4 which needed to be special requested. The fingerguard of the bean hopper has been redesigned to help beans flow through easier while still protecting your fingers. The adjustment dial numbers a printed with a light color which makes it a lot easier to read.

Electronic / On demand grinding
  • Rotary dial – Easy to use rotary dial selector, similar to the ones you can find on Jura models like the Z6.
  • Digital display – Easy to read LCD display. Programming menu also includes Welcome Message, Password Protection, Date & Lifetime Dosing Count.
  • Single / Double / Triple dosing – Underneath the coffee chute is a red button. This starts the grinding process. First, select the mode of grinding using the rotary dial. When semi-automatic grinding, press and hold until you have the amount of ground coffee desired. When grinding on demand, press and hold for 1 second.
Grinding adjustment
  • Stepless – Gives you access to an “infinite” number of grind settings. This allows you really fine tune your grind fineness of your coffee beans. The numbered dial underneath the hopper helps you remember your current grind setting easier.
  • Adjustment knob – Located in the rear of the machine just below the hopper. There are 2 knobs on both sides. When using the right knob, turning clockwise will make the grind finer. Turning counterclockwise will make the grind coarser.
Grinding burrs
  • Flat burrs – Large size at 58 mm. The larger the size, the more of a grinding surface, resulting in faster production.
  • High rpm – Faster spinning rate at 1400 rpm. The higher the speed, the faster the production, which can increase efficiency and reduce wait times.
  • Easy access – Remove the bean hopper. Unscrew the numbered dial and hopper screw. Turn the upper burr holder clockwise until the top assembly comes off. This will give you access to the burrs and the grinding chamber. The burrs themselves are held in with Philips head screws.
Bean hopper
  • Low profile – The total height of the grinder without the hopper is a little under 12 inches. The bean hopper adds another 5 inches bringing the total height to approximately 17 inches. The total capacity is approximately 1.1 pounds of whole coffee beans, about half the size of a standard kilo bag.
  • Tinted – Helps to avoid pre-mature deterioration of beans from light sources (such as sunlight).
  • Set screw – Secures the hopper to the grinder. Serves as a reminder for users from quickly removing the hopper if it is full of beans.
  • Finger guard – Prevents users from “accidentally” putting their fingers in the grinding burrs.
  • Stopper – A door near the bottom of the hopper can be pushed in to close the opening. This allows you to remove the hopper with beans inside so you can easily change the beans. There will be some beans already passed in the burrs which will have to be ground out first before removing the hopper.
Portafilter fork
  • Ease of use – Accommodates most portafilters. The clearance from the fork to the funnel is approximately 2.75 inches.
  • Hands free – Above the fork is are hooks that your portafilter can rest on. This allows for practically hands free operation, aside from pushing forward to start the grinding process. The hooks are adjustable to fit any size portafilter head. There are 4 Allen key screws (~2.5 mm) that hold the hooks in place.
  • Container grinding – The fork is not easily removable. However it does not stick too far out from the grinder (~2.25 inches). Also the coffee chute is wider than other grinders. This makes grinding into a large container no problem.
Grinds catch tray
  • Easy to “install” – Hooks onto the front foot underneath the grinder. This helps keep the tray from sliding away.
  • Convenient – As easy as it is to install, it’s just as easy to remove to discard any excess grinds. There are other comparable models that do not have a tray at all.
Instruction manual
  • Written in 5 languages: Italian, English, French, German, Spanish. Instructions also work for the M42, MC42, & M42M.

Notes

    1. Changing grind settings: As with all coffee grinders, it is very important to only change grind settings when the unit is powered ‘on’ and the burrs are in motion. If you do not do this, the burrs will ‘gunk’ up and require cleaning by you every time this occurs. Changing the grind settings when the burrs are not in motion will render the grinder to only produce very coarse grinds or no grinds at all. If this result occurs, this will be considered operator error for lack of following directions, and not be classified as a defective grinder.
    2. Finding coffee grinds in a new grinder: We have confirmed that the manufacturer tests EVERY grinder with coffee beans before it leaves their facility, but they are not always able to get every trace of coffee out of the grinders after testing. As a result, you may find coffee beans or grinds inside your grinder, or there may be grinds in the packaging when you unwrap it.
    3. Static issues: There are static issues with all grinders, even the highest quality models. We firmly believe that the static comes from the coffee beans. If you are having static problems with your coffee grinder, trying using a different blend of beans.
    4. Replacing burrs: NEVER use a flat head screwdriver and hammer to wedge under the burrs for removal. This could badly damage your grinder.
    5. Electrical cord: Please note that the electrical cord is placed between the packaging (foam or cardboard) and the underside body of the grinder. During shipping, it is normal for a bend or insignificant blemish / slice to damage the cord.
    1. Manual switch models: These models are no longer being produced by the factory.
    2. Cleaning: Before 1st use, we recommend to clean the bean hopper and covers with a mild, non-abrasive soap.
    3. Retrofitting: Sorry, there is no retro kit available to upgrade older grinders.
    4. Macap grinders are considered commercial equipment for grinding coffee only and cannot be returned once used.
