Lelit Glenda PID Espresso & Cappuccino Machine PL41PLUST

The Lelit  Glenda espresso and cappuccino is another beauty in the Lelit line. She is the older sister to the popular Anna model, and they are very similar. Additionally, the controls are the same since they use rocker style switches. Also, the PID controls are available as well as the multi-directional wand.

The main difference between the Lelit Glenda espresso machine and the PL41TEM110 Anna espresso machine is the grouphead and boiler size. Glenda has a commercial-grade 58mm grouphead. Thus, this helps to provide better temperature stability for making espresso. The Glenda boiler is also slightly larger to allow for greater temperature stability and more steaming capacity. The high wattage heating element keeps waiting times low when warming up or switching to steam mode. The Lelit Glenda does not have a brew pressure gauge, but all you need to do is watch the espresso pour to see if you need to change the grind particle size finer or coarser.

Lelit Glenda PL41PLUST PID Espresso & Cappuccino Machine

Single boiler, dual-purpose system:

  • Brass – The 300 ml boiler helps maintain constant water temperature for better espresso coffee extraction.
  • High wattage heating element – 1200 watt heating element for fast reaction time when cold water enters the boiler and quick warm-up times.
  • Security thermostat and security valve – Made for better pressure control.
  • Three-way solenoid valve – Allows for immediate removal of the portafilter right after the espresso extraction (or when the pump switch in coffee mode is turned off).

PID display:

  • PID display – Allows you to program the temperature of the boiler for different coffee bean blends. It also allows programming of C or F temperature scales as well as the P, I, and D settings. There is also the ability to reset the PID to the factory settings.

Steam/water wand:

  • Multi-purpose – Used for both steam or hot water depending on the current mode choice.
  • Multi-directional – Allows you to make creamy cappuccinos. Can extend out on the right side if you are using large cups.
  • Very short wait time – The small boiler and high wattage heating element, combined with the PID controller, cut the wait time from coffee to steam considerably.
  • Polymer tubing – The tubing that connects the boiler to steam / hot water valves are sustaining. They can resist high pressure & high temperatures up to 620 °F, facilitate easier repairs, and are limescale free.
  • Single-hole steam tip makes life easier for frothing and steaming

Construction:

  • Stainless steel body and frame – Polished to a mirror finish and rust-resistant.
  • Water tank visibility – There is an opening on the left side of the machine that allows you to see the water level. This is a lot easier than opening the top cover to peek in.
  • Drip tray – The tray is made of plastic. The cover is made of stainless steel. Both are removable for easy cleaning.

Controls:

  • Power switch – Located on the left side of the unit. Easy to reach than in the back on the Anna model.
  • Three-way switch – Located on the front middle of the unit. This selects between the different modes. The up position is for steam mode. The middle is hot water mode. The down is coffee mode.
  • Pump switch – Located on the front left of the unit. This activates the pump for coffee or hot water when you lift up.
  • Steam/water knob – Located on the right of the espresso machine. Allows you to control the intensity of the steam or water output. Turn counterclockwise to open or clockwise to close.

Accessories included:

  • Portafilters – Dual spout portafilter. Commercial grade. 58mm in diameter.
  • Filter baskets – 1-cup filter basket which holds approximately 7 grams. 2-cup filter basket which holds approximately 14 grams.
  • Tamper – A cheap plastic tamper. Manufacturers will normally include a tamper like this to keep the overall selling price of the machine low. We recommend upgrading to a better tamper.
  • Coffee scoop – A simple plastic scoop if you are using pre-ground coffee. We like using the handle to level the ground espresso coffee in the basket.
  • Instructional manual – Written in 5 languages: Italian, English, French, German, and Russian. This manual includes information on how to use, as well as maintenance like backflushing & descaling.

Espresso Machine Warning:

  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. the lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat or the wiring inside.
  • WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
  • DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.

  1. WARNING: This is a single boiler machine. Machines in this class do not fill the internal boiler from the reservoir automatically. Since the water level drops in the boiler during steaming, you need to replenish this to avoid damage to the heating element. The only way to do this is to run water through the steam wand with the hot water switch. This does not apply when extracting espresso.
  2. PID flucuation: Please note that during an espresso extraction, the incoming cold water will reduce the temperature in the PID display. This is normal. In steam mode, the temperature shown on the PID display will be higher than the programmed temperature.

Warranty Information

Who handles the warranty

Eligible warranty for Lelit home equipment is handled by 1st-line Equipment or representative thereof. If you have purchased your Lelit equipment from another retailer (not 1st-line Equipment), you must contact them first in order to get your equipment serviced under warranty.

What does the warranty cover

The warranty is limited to manufacturer’s defects only.

Regarding espresso machines: Limescale buildup can lead to problems with your machine. The warranty will not cover any repairs if our technicians find limescale in your machine. Although descaling can be a good alternative to remove limescale causing minerals (calcium and magnesium), we strongly suggest that prevention is the best form of maintenance. The reason is that descalers can cause wear and tear on components inside an espresso machine. This includes gaskets, o-rings, and other metal components. However, where there is a clog somewhere, descaling will be a necessity on the specified part, area, or entire machine.

Regarding coffee grinders: As with all coffee grinders, it is very important to only change grind settings when the unit is powered on and the burrs are in motion. If you do not do this, the burrs will ‘gunk’ up and require cleaning by you every time this occurs. Changing the grind settings when the burrs are not in motion will render the grinder to only produce very coarse grinds or no grinds at all. If this result occurs, this will be considered operator error for lack of following directions, and not be classified as a defective grinder.

When does the warranty expire

The manufacturer’s warranty on new equipment is good for a period of 1 year from date of receipt which covers parts. Labor warranties may vary depending on the company you purchase from. Lelit products may have an extended warranty limited to manufacturer’s defect and will specifically state the extended period of time on your receipt.

Where will my equipment be serviced

In most cases, your Lelit equipment must be sent to a repair facility. If 1st-line Equipment will be servicing your equipment, you must either ship it or drop off at our facility in New Jersey.

How do I send in my equipment in for repair

If you are inside the warranty period and have purchased it from us, please contact us. Please be ready to provide the following information: invoice# of purchase, model of equipment, and a detailed description of the issue.

If you are outside the warranty period, whether you have purchased the equipment from us or not, please order a diagnosis. Please note that wait times can be up to 8 weeks. Our technical support staff can have a back log of repairs. As an alternative we have a listing of 3rd party repair companies across the USA that can assist you.

Finding your part
  • Please use the parts diagrams provided below to determine the part(s) you need. Then use our search box above to find the part(s) on our website. If no results come up, more than likely we do not stock the part.
  • If uncertain, please go to the equipment model or part product page. Then use the Q&A tab found on that web page to ask your question.
  • Lastly, and only if the first 2 options were exhausted, please use our parts inquiry page.
  • Our call center does not have the training to handle parts inquiries for over 60,000 different parts items. Asking any questions regarding parts will more than likely result in you being referred to the above steps.
  • Please note also that all parts purchases are non-returnable or refundable and do not include technical support, instructions, or warranties as the purchase price of any part does not cover the cost of technical support. Technical support is available for repairing equipment in our shop.
  • Sorry, we will only special order a part for a model we carry AND was purchased through our supply chain.
  • Since we are unaware of the mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing expertise of a parts buyer or the tools owned by a parts buyer, we are never able to advise if a self-repair can be performed.

I purchased a Lelit Glenda in February and it’s been great so far. One thing I noticed is that the steam wand has quickly become extremely creaky and has some resistance when I try to move it. I only periodically make milk drinks and always make sure to promptly clean and purge the wand afterwards so I don’t think there’s any chance it’s from milk buildup. Is there something wrong with the machine or is this fairly normal and is there some sort of food safe oil (like canola oil or something) that I can gently apply to loosen it up a little bit? It seems to be the ball joint that needs lubricating. When I first received the machine the wand was super smooth with no resistance at all.

Hard water may be making the noise. Insert some PetrolGel where the wand connects to the holding nut. The machine must be unplugged from the wall outlet AND it must be cold AND the water reservoir should be removed.

    2. Hello, I purchased this machine about 6 months ago, I left it sitting for the last 2-3months. When I came back to it I have been having problems with getting water to come out from the group head. Water will come out of the steam wand but not the group head. Before leaving the machine to sit I did a few black flush cleanings. Today I have done 2-3 a descales using dezcal. During the descaling process I tried flipping the switch for coffee/hot water/steam repeatedly because I saw a video of that helping clear the solenoid for the gaggia machine. I am not sure if the process is the same for this machine. Is there anyone that can help point me in the right direction for steps to take? Do I need to continue descaling while flipping the switches or is this pointless? Do I need to remove the solenoid valve and clean it? Is the problem even the solenoid valve?

Sorry, we can no longer determine an ETA. Covid19 is disrupting the supply chain (suppliers of our suppliers) in Europe with red zones, orange zones, etc. Now, we learned this morning that the shipping lanes are all disrupted due to the ship stuck in the Suez Canal. Although our goods do not go through that Canal, many ships go to multiple points, not just A-B and back.

Just now it suddenly started extracting way too fast no matter what coffee or grind size I use. I tried about 10 shots. I'm using the Lelit bottomless portafilter. In this bad mode its pulling 2 oz in about 10 sec of what looks like ordinary coffee. I have a Baratza Vario grinder. I wonder - is the OPV stuck closed? I tried 3-4 different beans. Vario set all the down to 1A. It's putting out powder. This happened to me once last week but only lasted 1-2 shots and went back to normal. At that time it seemed to be bean related. I'm using fresh roasted beans, roast dates in Aug or Sept. Please help.

Is or was the machine in steam mode? If yes, then the steam will blow out the water through the grouphead.

If not, then this pertains more to preparation and grind. We have never seen a stuck OPV on Lelit machines. We have seen OPVs on some different espresso machines that open too soon and there is not enough pressure to pump the water through the grinds.

Sorry, we are not aware of this.

A It is most likely possible to cut open the machine and add in a brew pressure gauge though the installation would be trial and error and you would need to be an expert to properly install it, and it will probably void any warranty on the machine and potentially raise the price of repairing the machine if something goes wrong. *I am not a first line worker and this is just my opinion and I do hope that I am not breaking any rules by posting this. Lelit machines do not have that many modders like la pavonis, rancilio's, and gaggia's machines so I would not hold my breath on a guide or kit becoming available in the next few years.

Since there is an internal ~300cc brass boiler inside, it will take anywhere between 45 and 60 seconds to get to steam mode. Depending upon size of the of the cups for lattes or cappuccinos, one steaming session is good for 2-4 beverages before having to get more water from the reservoir to the internal boiler. This is to avoid the water level dropping below the heating element inside the boiler. If the water level drops too low, the heating element can start to melt down and get damaged. Thus, this damage would create a short and trip a GFIC type outlet. It is important to note to refill the boiler after every steaming session by running water through the steam wand without any steam sputtering.

A I just bought one less than 2 weeks ago. I timed it and it was exactly a 1.5 minutes.
Answered by the admin Once the steam switch is activated, it is a good idea to open the steam valve by turning the steam knob and allowing about 1-2 ounces of water to exit into the drip tray. This creates an air space for the steam to build up faster as opposed to no air space. In addition, timing will be different based on boiler temperature after pulling a shot of espresso, ambient temperature, actual voltage in outlet, limescale, effectiveness of an aging heating element, and desired steam temperature.
