Lelit PL043MMI Fred Stepless Doserless Espresso Coffee Grinder

The Lelit PL043MMI Fred is a similar espresso coffee grinder as the Lelit PL044MM Fred! Both have the same size conical burrs. Additionally, both have the same grinding adjustment and operation. However, the Lelit PL043MMI Fred is slightly smaller in terms of dimensions and weight, so it is truly compact for your home espresso bar!

The Lelit Fred pairs well with the Lelit Bianca V3 Dual Boiler Espresso Machine

Notes

Espresso Coffee Grinder Warnings:

  • Changing grind settings: It is very important to only change grind settings when the unit is powered on and the burrs are in motion. If you do not do this, the burrs will ‘gunk’ up and render the grinder to only produce very coarse grinds or no grinds at all. To remedy this, you will have to open up the grinder to get access to the grinding burrs. This issue will be considered operator error for lack of following directions, and not be classified as a defective grinder.
  • Electrical cord: For most grinders, the cord is placed between the packaging (foam or cardboard) and the underside body of the grinder. During shipping, it is normal for a bend or insignificant blemish/slice to damage the cord.
  • Finding coffee grinds in a new grinder: Most manufacturers test their grinders with coffee beans before they leave their facility. Unfortunately, they are not always able to get every trace of coffee out of the grinders after testing. As a result, you may find coffee beans or grinds inside your grinder, or there may be grinds in the packaging.
  • Static issues: There are static issues with all grinders, even the highest-quality models. We firmly believe that the static comes from the coffee beans. If you are having static problems with your coffee grinder, try using a different blend of beans.
  • Electrical: To avoid electrical damage (which is not considered a manufacturer’s defect), please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. A surge without protection can damage a grinder at the power switch, the capacitor, the motor, or the wiring.
  • Burr cleaning: For routine maintenance of the grinding burrs, we recommend using grinder cleaning agents. We do not recommend any removal of the burrs or the burr carrier for cleaning (unless necessary) as re-assembly can cause damage.
  • Replacing burrs: NEVER use a flathead screwdriver and hammer to wedge under the burrs for removal. This could badly damage your grinder.

The Lelit Fred grinder has been out of stock for a while. Do you have an ETA for when it will be back in stock? Do you carry any other LeLit grinders that you would recommend?

    2. Hello, I am getting geared up to purchase an elite victoria, and I have the baratza encore grinder currently. In your opinion, is the Lelit Fred PL043MMI that you sell considerably better than the Encore? I make mostly oat milk capps with 'darker roasts' like Proof roasters 'The Schist blend' and on occasion 'medium' roasts like Birch Coffee 'Emmas Espresso' Thank you in advance

Sorry, we are not familiar with these coffees. If they are darker and OILY roasts, the Lelit Fred may jam often. The Encore, we usually, do not consider it for espresso machines, unless they have a pressurized basket or pressurized portafilter.

It depends upon the grind fineness and the coffee blend used. Hence, no perfect answer.

    8. The Lelit coffee grinder is freezing when I attempt to grind beans at the proper consistency for espresso. The grinder recently froze when I was making a shot of espresso. As I have previously, I removed the hopper and the upper burr to clean the assembly. It did not appear to be overly oily or "dirty" with beans. I reassembled the upper burr and hopper, readdjusted the grinder to the proper consistency setting. It got about half way through grinding a double espresso shot worth of beans before freezing again. I repeated the cleaning process once more and was unable to identify any apparent cause of the issue. I've done my best to troubleshoot the issue, and the only additional detail I can note is that the grinder's motor seems to have a reduced ability to grind beans at finer consistencies. It still grinds coffee at the consistency required for pour-over, but you can tell as you adjust the fine/course setting that the motor is struggling. I've tried other outlets and even let the grinder sit for a day or two. Nothing seems to work.

Answered by the admin Please take to a coarser setting as the burrs are probably too close. Unfortunately, some customers grind way too fine to compensate for the lack of proper dosage of ground espresso. It can also be the lack of the proper voltage.

Burrs should never be cleaned with water unless you desire rust on your burrs. It is best to use our grinder cleaning products to clean the burrs so they do not have to be removed. The bean hopper can be cleaned with a bean hopper cleaner.

The grinding burrs on an espresso grinder should be replaced once they can not grind fine enough. The length of time or pounds is difficult to determine since beans can also have other contaminants, like wood sticks, cemebent, stones, etc that damage the burrs.
