Elektra Nivola POD Espresso Machine

Overview:

Materials and internal components have been selected by Elektra for their strength and durability, which is always in line with the quality level of Elektra design. In the Nivola, Elektra has integrated the combination of beauty with full function!

Features:

  • The indicator lights on the front of the machine indicate when the machine
    • is at the perfect temperature to extract espresso,
    • when the unit’s reservoir lack’s enough water, and
    • when the unit is powered ‘on’.
  • The Nivola housing has a mirrored, polished aluminum finish or gorgeous red-enamel finish over aluminum – the aluminum is heavy weight, not a cheap thin aluminum!
  • The control knob is very simple – turn counter-clockwise for steam and turn clockwise to start the espresso extraction.
  • When you turn the knob for steam, it will take about 30-45 seconds to get to steam mode. The frothing aid assists in the frothing of milk for cappuccinos.
  • When you turn the knob for espresso extraction, the machine will not extract espresso unless the machine is at the proper pre-set temperature for making espresso. this temperature is not adjustable, and the owners of this machine swear on how good the espresso comes out.
  • The temperature of the water in the boiler is controlled by an digital electronic sensor – not the typical, cheaper coffee thermostats.
  • The cup warmer cover and drip tray cover are in non-corrosive stainless steel.
  • The brass boiler and the brass filter holder add to the temperature stability of the machine.
  • The filter holder grip is made of authentic bakelite plastic.
  • The Quartz clock and respective cover can be removed for battery replacement. Battery not included.
  • The electronic sensor in the boiler does not allow the machine to be operated unless the correct temperature for brewing coffee or steaming/frothing milk have been achieved.
  • Removable plastic drip tray with stainless steel cover are desired for easy cleaning.
  • The reservoir sensor shuts down the functions of the machine when there is no water in the reservoir – a great feature lacking on many other home model machines.
  • Accessories: 1 pod filter handle, and 1 instruction manual (English).

Espresso Machine Warning:

  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. the lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat or the wiring inside.
  • WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
  • DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.

  1. Elektra informed us that every one of their home machines is tested with water and coffee to insure there are no leaks under pressure and to insure proper operation when received by the customer. Although they clean each grouphead to the best of their ability, you may find some coffee grinds in the grouphead or on the machine when dislodged from the grouphead during shipping.
  2. Battery for quartz clock not included.
  3. The ground coffee model and the pod model do not have interchangeable components to switch from one to the other.
  4. When you receive the machine, please read the entire instructions first. In particular, upon initial start up. the knob must be turned counterclockwise to steam mode, the reservoir should be filled, containers must be placed unit he grouphead and steam wands, then the power must be turned on. The machine will then autofill correctly for the initial start up.
  5. If the machine does not heat after the initial priming as in the bullet point above, the Nivola can be reset by removing the top cover and the reset thermostat can be pushed through the porthole on the internal cover. this should be performed when the machine is unplugged.
  6. This machine is typically for home use only, and the pod only model can be used in hotel rooms due to safety features and ease of use for guests.

I was given an Elektra Nivola which I was considering sending in for diagnosis/maintenance, and I was wondering if it would be possible to modify the machine so that I could use coffee, rather than pods. Is that something that you could do, and if so how much would that typically cost?
