I have noticed on some of these after following the instructions on the package (rinse, let sit in a pitcher of water for 5 min) afterwards the softener turns the water yellow even though I followed the instructions exactly. To resolve I have been changing the water in the pitcher until it stays clear over the course of a couple days before putting into the Elektra Verve. Is there a better process to get these prepped prior to use?

Unfortunately, these need to be rinsed with running water prior to use. Typically, run about 5 minutes of cold water through the larger side to flush out.

    2. If I use a whole house water softener system, then use a BWT Penguin water pitcher to fill my Elektra Verve, does the Elektra 05637035 Water Softener, then remove the added magnesium from the BWT? if so any suggestions? Can I run the verve without a filter?

Answered by the admin Sorry, we are unfamiliar with the BWT Penguin pitcher. We usually recommend to use the Elektra wtaer softener. However, the water can not be too pure either because water under 80ppm TDS can also have an adverse effect on espresso machines.
