Notes

  1. Backflushing: Bezzera forbids backflushing the Strega as there is no 3 way solenoid valve for the water pressure to be relieved. If you backflush this machine at your risk, you may have a difficult time removing the portafilter, or the portafilter, upon removing, may explode off the grouphead and cause damage or injury. The proper way to clean the grouphead is by manually removing the dispersion screen and scrubbing it with a small wire metal brush and soaking it in Ascaso backflushing detergent. The screen can be damaged upon removal and is not covered under warranty.
  2. Before shipping: We open every Bezzera box to inspect the machine and add additional packaging inside the box for safer transport. We then place the Bezzera box into a larger box.
  3. Some assembly required: The lever handle needs to be hand screwed on and the Allen key screw needs to tighten into the hole to hold the lever handle in place. Last we checked, the Allen key and Allen key screw are included in a small bag in the accessories box.

Sorry, in some cases, without evaluating the machine, some intermittent problems can be a needle-in-the-haystack to find. We usually get those machines in here and it can take a several weeks to get the problem to occur and solve it.

Open the steam wand, warm up for 30 minutes, and check if steam comes out. If it does not, it could be a damaged vacuum valve, bad heating element, a bad pressurstat, or a fault with the electronics.

The Strega is a great machine. Correct, one is a tank model and the other is switchable to be used as a tank or direct plumb.

There are weights inside the machine and we do not recommend taking the machine apart.

Thanks for the inquiry. This answer is specifically for the tank only version, and NOT the plumbable version as the plumbed in machine may have an issue with the water line pressure.

In the tank only model, this overheating pressure can happen because of the following:

      a) Water too pure, refill probe on top of boiler is corroded, refill probe wire connection is faulty - in all of these cases, the brain unit will send water to the boiler that has steam and hot water. When there is incoming water, the steam needs a place to escape - this blows out the safety valve and the steam pressure gauge will rise to 2.5 which is the typical setting for the safety valve to open. You will know if this is the issue if the pump engages to fill the boielr prior to the steam pressure climbing,

      b) The pipe from the boiler is partially clogged and clogging fully in certain instances,

      c) If your machine had scale build up and if it was not removed before a new pressurstat installation, the scale can damage the new pressurstat quite quickly.

It can be the heating element or pressurstat. In some cases, if the heating element has leakage to ground, it can cause an overheat situation. Plug the machine into a GFI outlet to test for leakage to ground.

If a previous pressurstat became faulty because of limescale on the diaphragm inside the pressurstat, it is highly possible to happen again very soon on the new switch. This is why a descaling of the boiler should occur before any pressurstat replacement.

It is always best to check the model pump inside your machine and search our web site for the correct replacement. The reason is that many manufacturers have changed pumps in their machines without notice. In most cases, it is an ULKA pump, but the wattage (52 vs 41) may be different.

Please look at the diagrams to see the part that matches your machine. There is more than one version pressurstat.

As for replacement, the machine should be unplugged, water shut off if plumbed, reservoir removed, and take off the top cover to access the pressurstat.
