Description

Bezzera switchable machine from tank model to direct plumb. Classic E61 lever design grouphead. Polished stainless steel body. Thermosyphon heat exchanger system. Copper boiler with an internal heating exchanger that allows you to produce coffee, steam and hot water without delay. Four liter water tank. Rotary vane pump.

Features:

  • Heat exchanger with a large copper boiler: Allows you to brew coffee, steam milk, and pour hot piping water all at the same time.
  • Stainless steel body: Polished to a mirror finish.
  • E61 grouphead: Hot water circulates from the heat exchanger through the grouphead and back to keep the grouphead and your portafilter nice and hot. Lever next to the grouphead activates a microswitch which turns on the pump to pump water through the coffee grinds.
  • Boiler pressure gauge: (measures 0-3) Indicates steam boiler pressure.
  • Pump pressure gauge: (measures 0-16) Indicate brew pressure during espresso extraction. Please note that the only time this gauge should be looked at is when extracting espresso. At all other times, the reading is irrelevant.
  • Multi-directional steam wand and hot water wand: Allows for more flexibility. The wands are not insulated and thus provided faster steaming / frothing of milk over ‘no-burn’ steam wands. Joystick controls for steam and hot water wands give instant on / off operation as opposed to knobs that you must turn clockwise / counter clockwise.
  • Rotary vane pump and motor: Situated underneath tank / reservoir and adjustment can be made from underneath the espresso machine.
  • Switchable from reservoir mode to direct plumb mode: In order to make the switch, there is a loose wire found in reservoir area inside. This wire needs to be connected. The included plug needs to be inserted into the reservoir connection underneath the reservoir. The plug needs to be removed from the water line connection under the machine, and the included stainless steel braided hose needs to be attached. We suggest purchasing the fitting we recommend to attach on the other end of the hose for the water line.
  • Three way manual solenoid valve: Allows quick removal of portafilter after espresso extraction by relieving the pressure built up in the grouphead.
  • Very large water tank: Less refills for higher volume use. Refilling occurs from top of machine by lifting up lid on hinges.
  • Passive cup warmer: Heated faster with the non-insulated boiler.
  • Auto-fill relay / brain unit: Made by Gicar. Placed on bottom base of unit away from the heat near the top of the machine. There is a cover placed over the relay to deflect possible water leakage.
  • Accessories included: Single spout portafilter, double spout portafilter, 1-cup filter basket, 2-cup filter basket, blind filter basket, plastic tamper, plastic scoop, grouphead cleaning brush, reservoir plug, 1.5 meter stainless steel braided hose, and instruction manual.

It can be too fine a grind in the basket, too much pump pressure, a bad overpressure expansion valve, or a combination of any of the three.

Sorry to hear about this. It can be the water when heated in the reservoir, the sensor does not work correctly.  Try adding a pinch of salt into the reservoir to see if it resolves the issue. If not, it may be the brain unit. Sometimes, when the brain unit gets hot, it will shut down the unit.

Sorry, we are unsure based on the age of the machine. It sounds like you need to backflush with detergent more often.

At the time of this writing, the Mitica will provide more steam capacity with the larger boiler. However, it may take a few minutes more to warm up.

Although the Bezzera boiler is copper and more susceptible to limescale, we have seen limescale build up on many stainless boilers as well. The same goes with the mushroom on top of the grouphead.

As of today, reliability favors slightly more for the Mitica as we have had a few pressurstat and safety failures on the Tecnika.

We normally don't stock body panel parts as they are cumbersome to stock in our warehouse and they need extra special care as to make they do not scratch or bend.  We have set up the part on our website: 5074469SG

If you still need it, please add yourself to the waiting list.

Please check to see if the probe wires were reversed.

If the one sensor had to be cleaned, then the boiler refill solenoid valve may be clogged and not allowing water to pass. Try to run some descaler through the grouphead for about 30 seconds, then let sit for 20-30  minutes then run a rinse.

If no solution is pushed through the grouphead, please review the instructional manual for checking the proper steps for water tank set up or direct water connection set up.

Please also check for proper operation of the grouphead lever switch.

A Please check if there is a puff of steam that comes out after the 20 minute warm up. If there is, then the vacuum breaker valve or boiler bleeder valve is sticking due to limescale. If not the case, then you 'may' have a bad heating element/safety thermostat, brain unit and/or relay of which a multi-meter needs to be used to check. If a multi-meter is not available or or there is no knowledge of its use or of electrical concepts, the machine should be evaluated by a professional.

There is no rubber seal in the end fittings of the stainless steel braided hose. The smaller fitting needs to be tightened to the elbow at the bottom of the machine until the stainless steel braided hose no longer wiggles at the fitting. It is a metal to metal contact.

In some cases, 35 psi water pressure needs to be reduced to 22-24 psi for these smaller, prosumer espresso machine.

Lastly, check the elbow and make sure there are no contaminants on the threads or end of the elbow. If there are, please use a soft metal cleaning brush.
