Description

Baratza Forte BG Commercial Brew Coffee Grinder with Flat Burrs

Welcome to the Baratza Forte BG (Brew Grinder) is designed for manual or batch brewing and comes with a 54mm flat steel burr set and a grounds bin.

The flat burrs are made of hardened steel for those customers who fear stones, cements, or metal pieces found in some coffee beans and which can cause damage to ceramic burrs.

The Baratza Forte BG is a compact, weight-based, commercial grade grinder, dedicated to grinding for brew methods requiring a medium to coarse grind. The Forté-BG incorporates many features that fit well into commercial operations, including: all metal construction; small footprint; intuitive control panel; and solid macro/micro adjustment. Coffee professionals have learned, from using the Vario-W in the brew bar setting, that weight-based grinding improved their workflow and efficiency. In response to the Vario-W success, and growing demand for this approach to grinding in the commercial environment, we have developed the Forté-BG.

The Forté-BG is a durable workhorse using a 54mm flat steel burr, which produces an accurate and precise grind, delivering exceptional cup quality for brew methods from Press Pot to Drip. We re-designed the guts of the Vario-W for commercial use. The Forté-BG design includes a grinding assembly with a threaded burr holder which screws firmly into an all metal grinding chamber for a more accurate grind. A larger gear to belt ratio, combined with a more efficient DC motor, increases the speed of grind and duty cycle.

Features:

Intuitive Interface

The Forté-BG allows you to dose by weight or time. Our signature dose-by-weight is accurate to plus or minus .2 gram. The touch activation awakens your screen with LED backlit technology. The touch screen controls all operations with three programmable dose presets; Up or Down arrows to increase or decrease dose values; and TARE, MANUAL, START or STOP.

Ditting Burrs

The Forté-BG grinder comes with 54 mm steel burrs that produce an accurate and consistent grind for a variety of manual and small batch brews. The steel burrs were specifically designed to reduce the fines, enhancing flavor in the cup. The broad range of grind (500 microns to 1150 microns) and the narrow particle distribution (lack of fines) are the hallmarks of the superiority of the Forté-BG burrs.

Adjustment / Grind Particle Size Range

An all-metal macro and micro adjustment system produces a positive feel and secure grind setting. The macro-adjust moves from fine to coarse grinding in 10 distinct and repeatable settings. A secondary micro-adjust further divides each of the 10 macro steps into 26 distinct settings. These steps, plus the new metal detents, enable fine-tuning with ease, dialing in the exact grind for your brew method.

Bean Hopper

The hopper holds approximately 300g of coffee. An innovative bean shutoff feature in the collar permits no-mess, no-fuss hopper removal for changing out beans. Bean “waste” (below the stopper) averages a surprisingly low 10g, once the hopper has been shut off (all weights are bean density dependent). A hopper extension is available that can add an additional 250g of capacity.

Re-calibrating Burrs

To ensure an accurate range of grind, Baratza calibrates all grinders at their factory. You can also re-calibrate the burrs using the special calibration tool that comes with your purchase.

Burr Cleaning

The burrs are easily removable for cleaning. In the box there is a cast zinc tool which you use. You can also run Urnex Grindz through the grinder.

Optional Accessories

Hopper extender: An extension that can add 250g of capacity to the existing 300g bean hopper. Several extenders are available to get to the capacity you need.

Notes

  1. The Forte is available in 2 versions. The Forté-AP (All Purpose) version can grind from coarse to fine and comes with a 54 mm flat ceramic burr, grounds bin for use when grinding by weight, and a portaholder for use when grinding directly into your portafilter. The Forté-BG (Brew Grinder) version is designed for manual or batch brewing and comes with a 54 mm flat steel burr and a grounds bin.

  1. Changing grind settings: As with all coffee grinders, it is very important to only change grind settings when the unit is powered ‘on’ and the burrs are in motion. If you do not do this, the burrs will ‘gunk’ up and require cleaning by you every time this occurs. Changing the grind settings when the burrs are not in motion will render the grinder to only produce very coarse grinds or no grinds at all. If this result occurs, this will be considered operator error for lack of following directions, and not be classified as a defective grinder.
  2. Finding coffee grinds in a new grinder: We have confirmed that the manufacturer tests EVERY grinder with coffee beans before it leaves their facility, but they are not always able to get every trace of coffee out of the grinders after testing. As a result, you may find coffee beans or grinds inside your grinder, or there may be grinds in the packaging when you unwrap it.
  3. Static issues: There are static issues with all grinders, even the highest quality models. We firmly believe that the static comes from the coffee beans. If you are having static problems with your coffee grinder, trying using a different blend of beans.
  4. Replacing burrs: NEVER use a flat head screwdriver and hammer to wedge under the burrs for removal. This could badly damage your grinder.
  5. Electrical cord: Please note that the electrical cord is placed between the packaging (foam or cardboard) and the underside body of the grinder. During shipping, it is normal for a bend or insignificant blemish / slice to damage the cord.

  1. Manual switch models: These models are no longer being produced by the factory.

Q How mamy lbs per hour can the grinder support? answer now
      Asked on December 15, 2018 12:39 am
      A

The rating by the manufacturer is 1.2 — 2.1 g/sec depending upon grind particle size.

Please note that this is not a production grinder to grind coffee continuously like that sold in retail bags. It is more for pour over or espresso grinding.
