Grinding adjustment
With stepless adjustment, there is an infinite number of grind settings. This allows you really fine tune your grind. The adjustment dial is located underneath the hopper. The entire dial is numbered so you can remember your current grind setting easier. Turn clockwise for a coarser grind and counterclockwise for a finer grind. The metal rod sticking out is the adjustment lever. This helps change your grind settings easier. There are 3 positions this lever can be installed. Once you find your correct grind setting, you can move the lever to another position that won’t stick out the sides.
Grinding burrs
The Ascaso I-Bar 15 uses 58 mm flat burrs. The larger the size, the more of a grinding surface, resulting in faster production. The 250 watt motor spins the burrs at 1400 rpm. The higher the speed, the faster the production, which can increase efficiency and reduce wait times. The burrs are easily accessible. First remove the bean hopper. Then turn the grinding adjust to the coarser direction until the top assembly comes off. This will give you access to the burrs and the grinding chamber. The burrs themselves are held in with flat head screws.
Electronic controls
The touch pad on the front of the Ascaso I-Bar 15 controls the grinder. Press the 1 cup for a single dose, the 2 cup for a double dose, and the hand for manual dosing. Above the controls is digital readout which displays the time and overall grinding stats.
To turn on/off grinding stats, turn on/off manual dosing button: hold the 1 cup & 2 cup buttons for 3 seconds. Use the manual dose and 2 cup buttons to change the settings.
To adjust the dosing times: hold the manual dose and 2 cup button for 3 seconds. Use the 1 cup and manual dose buttons to change the settings.
To change the time: hold the manual dose and 1 cup button for 3 seconds. Use the manual dose and 2 cup buttons to change the settings.
Bean hopper
Large capacity hopper that can hold approximately 1 pound of roasted coffee beans. There is a set screw that secures the hopper to the grinder. This helps serve as a reminder for users from quickly removing a hopper full of beans. The finger guard on the inside of the hopper prevents users from “accidentally” putting their fingers in the grinding burrs. The door near the bottom of the hopper slides in our out to close the opening. This allows you to remove the hopper with beans inside so you can easily change the beans. There will be some beans already in the burr chamber which you must grind out first before removing the hopper.
Portafilter fork
The extension of the fork allows your portafilter to sit while grinding. There is no need to hold it with your hand. This can accommodate most portafilters. The fork can be removed if you wish to grind into a container. There is 1 flat head screw that holds the fork in place. The clearance from the funnel is approximately 6″.
Grounds catch tray
The grounds catch tray form fits to the feet of the grinder and easily slides into place. This helps reduce any spillage onto your counter. It’s stainless steel finish helps guarantee longer life compared to a plastic one.
Built in tamper
The built-in tamper is on the right side of the grinder. It fits most 58 mm portafilters. It is convenient for a quick tamp. Under the tamper is a rubber guard. This is in order to help prevent scratching the side panels. You can also uninstall the tamper if you wish.
