Ascaso Dream UP V3 Espresso Machine w/ Wood Handle & Knob

Overview:

The Ascaso Dream UP V3 machine has had some extra elegance added to its already dynamic design! Ascaso has crafted the portafilter handle and steam knob out of Pyrenean boxwood–adding artful, chemical-free durability that you can feel! We love how this new addition in design compliments The Dream’s signature retro look.

Features:

Aluminum Body

Unlike other machines made of steel and painted enamel, the Ascaso Dream UP has no chance of rusting. Remember, we are using water and steam to make our favorite drinks, so steel machines will rust at some point. The aluminum base does have a polish. Therefore, be careful of distilled or purified water which can ruin its finish. Also, keep in mind, the aluminum is hand buffed and polished. Hence, each base will have its character.

Thermoblock Technology

The thermoblock is designed of aluminum for fast warm up times and thickness for good temperature stability. Aluminium also avoids ‘pitting’ in cases where purified water is used. The inside pipe for which water comes in contact for heating is made of stainless steel. Another bonus? The thermoblock in this case is less prone to limescale build up from magnesium and calcium – limescale is a major factor in causing problems on espresso machines.

3-way solenoid valve

Allows you the ability to remove the portafilter immediately after brewing, turning your grinds into a puck, rather than a watery mess!

Quality brewing group

Made of chrome plated brass, the grouphead on the Ascaso Dream UP evenly distributes heat and reduces hotspots for more temperature consistent espresso. It has also been designed to evenly distribute water across the coffee grounds for a better extraction.

Adjustable Over Pressure Valve

The ability to adjust the over pressure valve allows you to perfect your coffee to the flavor profile that is distinctly yours. The possibilities are endless!

1.3 L Water Reservoir

A microprocessor pulsates the pump so water in the reservoir continuously fills the thermoblock for continuous steam – until the reservoir runs near empty.

Enhanced steam valve design

Previous models had metal-to-metal closure for shutting off the steam/hot water valve. V3 models were upgraded with compression steam valves so there is a rubber gasket that makes the closure. The result? A lower chance of limescale buildup as seen on previous models!

Panarello Steam Tip

Frothing milk has never been simpler! The panarello steam tip that Ascaso provides will have you making luxurious lattes and cappuccinos in no time. Ascaso also provides a new and improved steam tip for those who want a little more control with their microfoam.

Versatility between different brewing methods

No conversion kits needed here! As of April 2014, Ascaso has combined the ground / pod system into one. Simply switch out the filter basket to brew with freshly ground coffee or E.S.E pods. Ascaso provides FOUR different baskets.

Accessories included
  • Dual-spout portafilter.
  • Single and double pressurized filter baskets, Double non-pressurized basket, E.S.E Pod basket.
  • Aluminum tamper–an upgrade to the plastic tamper most manufacturers include.
  • Plastic scoop for pre-ground coffee.

Espresso Machine Warning:

  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. the lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat or the wiring inside.
  • WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
  • DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.

My dreams steamer is steaming even with the knob off. Every once in a while a little piece of black will come out when I clear the steamer. I clear it each time after use. When I pull espresso shots water comes out the steamer. I descale regularly. I purchased a new steam tip but that didn’t fix the issue.

Answered by the admin The steam tip is not the issue. The gasket inside the steam valve is worn or stuck, OR if there is a metal to metal contact for steam valve closure, then a quick descaling may clear it up.

The OPV only controls maximum pressure. The OPV may be clogged. Descale with the blind. If this does not correct it, it may need to be taken apart and evaluated and/or repalced.

    6. Hello, I am having some issues lately with the pressure on my dream pid. I've owned it less than a year and clean/descale regularly and use an ascaso espresso grinder, so there shouldn't be any issues. Also this is a recent issue. The machine will only produce very high pressures (i.e. 16 bar and above which is beyond the pressure gauge scale). When I loosen the OPV, it stays at the same high pressure until the screw/valve is completely open and then will no longer draw water up from the reservoir. I suspect this is an OPV issue, but you would know the machine inside and out better than I. Please let me know how we can resolve this issue so that I can get the pressure back down to 8 or 9 bar.

    8. Good morning/afternoon. Could you please help me troubleshoot the problem? The knob was not rotating smoothly and now the valve is not operating properly, so the water flows only through the steam wand - hence no coffee :( Thank for an excellent video - I took it apart, but I cannot see the issue. It seems like you need the following steam valve gasket.

    10. I purchased a dream machine last December and had problems by January with the steam knob not cutting the steam off. You sent me parts and we were able to fix it. I do not use the machine a lot during hot months but have made several this month. The knob is now again not cutting off the steam.

Please check to see if the wood knob is worn or the part inside the steam valve stem is locked.

    12. I'm looking to purchase a gasket kit and a replacement temperature gauge. Can someone please call me regarding this request? I was told by "My Espresso Shop" ( the company I bought my Dream Up v3 from) to contact you all to regarding finding these replacement parts. I've been searching for about a year!

Sorry, we only handle parts via our web site, and we escalate via email when necessary. Unfortunately, too many errors occur when handled over the phone. There are currently four versions of grouphead gasket kits based on your production year. Please select based on the label on the bottom of your machine, then select the parts needed in the kit.

The replacement gauge needs to be matched from the picture to what is on your espresso machine.

For the future, you can use our self-help parts center for Ascaso espresso machines and coffee grinders by referencing the diagrams, then searching for the parts on our web site by part number, then by matching the picture of the part to what is on your machine, then ordering the correct parts online..

    14. I've owned my DreamUP V3 for almost a year now. I clean and descale it regularly, and have not had any problems with it, and in fact I'm not sure I have a problem now. Within the last month, the pucks that come out after brewing are quite wet if I pull the basket within a couple of minutes of brewing. If I wait for 50-10 minutes, it dries out; I assume because the group head heats up drives the heat out. I was wondering if the check valve (little white "rubber" ball mounted on a spring underneath the brewhead plate) might be allowing water to keep flowing after the pump is turned off. Does this item require frequent replacement? If so, do you know what the recommended replacement frequency is? I pull 2-4 shots/day, and have been using the unit since early April, 2017. I don't see any other leaks, or any other things that would indicate other problems. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

A Sorry for the typos above. If I wait 15-20 minutes the puck is quite dry when I remove it. I'm assuming that this is because the brew head heat dries the puck out.

If using ground coffee, make sure the ground coffee kit (plate, dispersion screen and screw) is installed into the grouphead to fill in the space that was designed for espresso pods.

The issue described can also be a fault in the grinder or preparation error or both. Too much grind dust or inconsistent grind can cause this issue as well as too little coffee in the basket can do the same.

It can also be an uncleaned 3 way solenoid valve which may need to be backflushed and/or descaled.

In on the machine, the spring and rubber stopper can be removed from within the grouphead. Ascaso may have already removed it from your machine.

A I'm using a Rancilio Rocky grinder which I clean and maintain regularly. The V3 has the 'good' shower head and dispersion screen already installed from the factory. The spring and stopper should not be removed, since it was purchased new, and it's included in the schematic for the unit that is posted here when I'm looking for parts. The potential solenoid valve issue is a possibility, but this unit isn't equipped with a backflushable group head from what I've been able to determine. Can you provide a link to where i can find additional information regarding cleaning the valve? I do descale the unit regularly.

Although the wood is extremely nice in not only looks and great on feel, it is our opinion that wood does not handle water or heat as well as plastic. Hence, better care is needed to avoid having water get on the wood handles.

Quite contrary to what most will think, all the colors sell quite well because customers like to complement or contrast the color of their espresso machines in their kitchens. This is why Ascaso makes all the colors available. If there was very low demand for a certain color, they would have dropped the color from their portfolio or products.
