Ascaso Dream UP V3 PID Espresso Machine w/ WOOD Handle and Steam Knob

The Ascaso Dream UP V3 machine has had some extra elegance added to its already dynamic design! Ascaso has crafted the portafilter handle and steam knob out of Pyrenean boxwood–adding artful, chemical-free durability that you can feel! We love how this new addition in design compliments The Dream’s signature retro look. Plus, with the addition of the PID, control of the temperature of your coffee and hot water is at your fingertips!

PID Display

  • Adjustable temperature in one-degree increments.
  • Stand-by option is available.
  • Coffee dose timer.
  • Programmable pre-infusion. (0 to 5 seconds).
  • Alarms (5): Water/coffee ratio, coffee or steam gauge, coffee group or steam. (Display indicates error type).

Active Cup Warmer

Unlike the other Dream models, the PID version has a 38W plate under the top panel actively warms cups, versus warming the cups with passive heat.

Illuminated Water Tank

The water tank on the Ascaso Dream PID is illuminated. Checking the water level in the early morning has never been easier!

Aluminum Body

Unlike other machines made of steel and painted enamel, the Ascaso Dream UP has no chance of rusting. Remember, we are using water and steam to make our favorite drinks, so steel machines will rust at some point. The aluminum base does have a polish. Therefore, be careful of distilled or purified water which can ruin its finish. Also, keep in mind, the aluminum is hand buffed and polished. Hence, each base will have its character.

Thermoblock Technology

The thermoblock is designed of aluminum for fast warm up times and thickness for good temperature stability. Aluminium also avoids ‘pitting’ in cases where purified water is used. The inside pipe for which water comes in contact for heating is made of stainless steel. Another bonus? The thermoblock in this case is less prone to limescale build up from magnesium and calcium – limescale is a major factor in causing problems on espresso machines.

3-way solenoid valve

Allows you the ability to remove the portafilter immediately after brewing, turning your grinds into a puck, rather than a watery mess!

Quality brewing group

Made of chrome plated brass, the grouphead on the Ascaso Dream UP evenly distributes heat and reduces hotspots for more temperature consistent espresso. It has also been designed to evenly distribute water across the coffee grounds for a better extraction.

Adjustable Over Pressure Valve

The ability to adjust the over pressure valve allows you to perfect your coffee to the flavor profile that is distinctly yours. The possibilities are endless!

1.3 L Water Reservoir

A microprocessor pulsates the pump so water in the reservoir continuously fills the thermoblock for continuous steam – until the reservoir runs near empty.

Enhanced steam valve design

Previous models had metal-to-metal closure for shutting off the steam/hot water valve. V3 models were upgraded with compression steam valves so there is a rubber gasket that makes the closure. The result? A lower chance of limescale buildup as seen on previous models!

Panarello Steam Tip

Frothing milk has never been simpler! The panarello steam tip that Ascaso provides will have you making luxurious lattes and cappuccinos in no time. Ascaso also provides a new and improved steam tip for those who want a little more control with their microfoam.

Versatility between different brewing methods

No conversion kits needed here! As of April 2014, Ascaso has combined the ground / pod system into one. Simply switch out the filter basket to brew with freshly ground coffee or E.S.E pods. Ascaso provides FOUR different baskets.

Accessories included

  • Dual-spout 58 mm portafilter.
  • Single and double pressurized filter baskets, Double non-pressurized basket, E.S.E Pod basket.
  • Aluminum tamper–an upgrade to the plastic tamper most manufacturers include.
  • Plastic scoop for pre-ground coffee.

Espresso Machine Warning:

  • ELECTRICAL WARNING: To avoid electrical damage to this espresso machine which is not considered a manufacturer's defect, please acquire and install a single-outlet surge suppressor rated at 1080 joules or higher. the lack of the recommended surge suppressor, the espresso machine can be damaged at the power switch, the electronics, the heating element, the pressurstat or the wiring inside.
  • WATER WARNING: To increase the useful life of and not damage your espresso machine, please use softened water. Softened water is water without calcium and without magnesium, but still has other minerals for espresso extraction. Do not use distilled water, purified water, nor reverse osmosis water as these types of water create oxidation with the metals and cause the same damaging effects as limescale.
  • DESCALING WARNING: We do not recommend descaling unless there is an issue with the espresso machine. The reason is that too much descaling can eat away at the metals and gaskets inside an espresso machine.

I was wondering if you sell a replacement display/board for the Ascaso Dream PID? I'm referring to the actual numerical/letter display (and the small circuit board attached to it). I checked your site and cannot find it as an available item. I checked the parts diagram and I believe the part # is I.3959. My Dream PID display has a couple of lines missing a few days ago, and it's getting difficult to read. I checked the inside and it looks like a fairly easy item to replace. Please let me know if you have it or if we need to order it from Ascaso.

    2. I've ordered from you guys in the past, and most recently ordered an Ascaso steam knob. The issue is, when making espresso on my Ascaso Dream PID, the steam wand drips no matter how hard I tighten the dial (I obviously don't want to force it to the point of breaking every day, as that is clearly not the soultion). Any thoughts on what part has warn out ? If so, please send me any links as I'd like to get this fixed. As always, thanks for the help

Sorry to hear about this. Some Ascaso machines had a problem with an internal part of the steam valve. Please email us your order number, date of purchase, and full name that the machine was ordered under. If under warranty, we will send this part free of charge. Please note that the machine had to be purchased from us to attain this part. For those who purchased elsewhere, it is best to contact the dealer as they are responsible for this issue.

When replacing the "Ascaso I.2908 2015 Steam Valve Gasket and Small Internal Stem" https://www.1st-line.com/buy/ascaso-i-2908/ I found the old one was stuck inside (that possibily is mentioned in the video but not what to do about it). Some pushing and pulling (after screwing the longer stem back on) it came out. Just mentioning in case others face the same. One question though: I wasn't sure if I needed to replace the o-rings on the longer stem that comes out (the part that piece I linked screws into), do you know what size they are (and perhaps a good idea to sell two of those with the linked piece above.

Yes, that one part is tricky.

Please use the diagrams in the technical support section of our web site. We do not want to mention it because these parts have changed a few times. So, best to ccheck the diagrams based on the month/year production of your model.

A Hmmm, according to the parts diagram the o-rings are not broken out, and are included in this: https://www.1st-line.com/buy/ascaso-pm-212/ Definitely seeing leaking when the steam tap is open, so it's definitely the o-rings. But I'm not sure how to replace that whole part. I may just remove mine and measure for the o-ring. Unless someone knows what size the old o-rings (I2302) are?
Answered by the admin Usually, when stuck, the part I2908 needs to be replaced. I.2302 is a highly specialized high temp gasket.

    20. I have a Dream UP PID. The shot size (single / double) is ONLY working when I select double (warranty expired about a week ago!). I have tried to reprogram and the single setting is "fussy" which makes me think that the switch itself is worn or not functioning correctly (again, double shot works fine, single shot won't run water through more than 1 time out of 10). I THINK that the part I need is the I.3920 from the diagram. 1. Please confirm. 2. How would I remove the lid (I think 2 screws near the brew head?). 3. How would I replace the switch? I see that it has two slip on connectors but how is it housed? I may find the answer just by removing the lid but was hoping to avoid opening it until I had the replacement part (which I'm not going to order until I get more information). Thank you in advance!

Sorry, we can not tell if it is the switch, the software, or the flowmeter. Please follow the instructions in the manual to reset the Dream PID espresso machine. If this does not work, please make sure the double dose basket is not being used with the single dose switch as there may be not enough water coming through.

Special crescent wrenches are needed to remove the switches.

Answered by the admin The steam valve is a compression valve which means the knob needs to be turned tight. However, if you turned the screw for the overpressure valve to open at a higher pressure, the pressure created by the pump can exert more force than the gasket can handle in the steam valve. A few drips would be considered normal in this case. A stream is not considered normal.
    34. One the pressure was low when we first unboxed and ran for a few days, so we turned the pressure screw about a quarter turn and then it landed in the correct spot, however it varies / inconsistent - meaning the pressure is sometimes too low, sometimes where it is supposed to be, and other times too high. Is there some technique we need to have, or maybe we need to wait a certain time? Please let us know.

Answered by the admin Please note the screw, which is the overpressure valve a.k.a. OPV, controls the maximum pressur that is allowed to hit the coffee grind or puck in the basket. The adjustable screw DOES NOT control the actual pump pressure. The pump will produce a pressure by the maximum allowed by the OPV AND the amount needed to pass the resisyance created by the grind fineness and amount of coffee in the basket, and the tamping pressure. Therefore, your changes are occurring because there is a change in grind fineness, tamping pressure, AND/OR amount of coffee in the basket.
Answered by the admin Pulling a shot without running water through the steam wand after steaming milk will also increase the pressure as steam inside the thermoblock has a higher pressure. So, after steaming milk, water should be run through the steam wand until the temperature of the thermoblock comes down.

If there is no water glow through an open steam valve, there may be an air pocket inside the pump. The machine will need to be re-primed.

If the pump pumps water, then this means the capillary tube to the gauge is blocked, usually with limescale. We suggest doing a descaling with vinegar to try and clear it.

A I have reprimed and descaled and still very little water comes out of the group head or wand. Please advise.
      Answered by the admin

The descaler (white vinegar, Dezcal, Ascaso descaler, etc) needs to stay in the machine for ~20 minutes. Please follow the procedure we gave a link to in our last response.

If this does not work, then check to see if a lot of water drips into the water reservoir. It could be one of the valves is stuck open and sending back water to the reservoir. This open valve would usually only stay open because of limescale or other particulates.

If this does not solve it, the machine would need to be shipped in for evaluation and repair.

A I performed the descaling operation (leaving the descaling solution in the machine 20+ minutes and repeating this several times) as well as the priming procedure multiple times. I am still getting only spurts of water when the "water" function is on and steam/drops of water from the group head when it is engaged. I also don't get any increase in pressure when the backflush disk is in place. I have tried all of these things multiple times at this point and spent many hours trying to get the machine to work. Incidentally, it was working fine for several weeks, then the output all but stopped in the middle of pulling a shot. I also checked to see if there was any water running back into the reservoir, and there was not. I think I need to send it in for service at this point to have the pump looked at. Please let me know how to do this. Thank you kindly for your help.

    40. So my machine just blew up (exaggerating)... actually, just a loud pop then steam and water all over the place. I surmised it was a line that must have popped off and sure enough the thin plastic tube that runs from the pump to the steam valve had popped out. I tried to simply reconnect it but the brass pressure fitting will probably need to be replaced because it won't seal now. I searched the parts page but can't find that part. It might be that I would need the plastic line itself with the fitting already clamped on right?
