Features:
  • NEW!!! Rancilio Miss Silvia V5 espresso machine has a new insulated boiler design with a stainless steel heating element inside.
  • Our Silvia's now have a plastic guide around the steam wand knob so the metal body does not cut into the knob.
  • Over Pressure valve (OPV) is now adjustable on our Silvia's. You can adjust the amount of excess water pressure by bringing out the OPV and tightening the nut. We recommend doing this with the V512 pressure gauge.
  • To avoid burning oneself, our Silvia's are equipped with a rubber protector on the steam wand.
  • Boiler, grouphead, steam nozzle, steam valve, and chrome filter holder constructed of press forged marine brass.
  • Three thermostats - coffee, steam, & safety - unlike many other espresso machines which just have two thermostats! Please note the coffee thermostat is not adjustable - this means that if you want to change the temperature of the machine, you will need to change to a higher temeprature thermostat.
  • Three way solenoid valve opens after you depress the coffee switch to stop brewing. It allows the excess water pressure in the grouphead and portafilter to exit to the drip tray. This is why you may sometimes find water in the drip tray after brewing.
  • Powerful 41 watt electro-magnetic Ulka pump.
  • Visible heating light for brewing and steaming.
  • Separate switch for hot water supply. Steam knob needs to be in the open position for water to come out of steam wand.
  • Body and control panel made of beautiful satin stainless steel finish which is easy to clean and mounted on a strong, iron frame.
  • Accessories: chrome-plated, commercial-sized portafilter, 1-cup and 2-cup filter baskets, coffee measure scoop, and coffee tamper.
  • Measurements: 13.625" H x 9.5" W x 11.375" D.
  • Weight: 31 pounds.
  • Boiler capacity: 10.5 ounces max (our figure may seem lower than reviewed elsewhere, but we take into consideration the displacement of water by the existence of the heating element). Without the heating element, the boiler capacity is about 12 ounces.
  • Power supply: 1100 watts max, 120 volts, 60 hertz.
  • Removable water tank capacity: 67 ounce (two liter) approximate; there is 10 inch clearance to remove water tank from unit. The reservoir has two hoses - the longer is for intake of the water into the boiler and the shorter is for the overpressure valve. Only the longer hose needs to be submerged.
  • 800W Heating Element - When bench testing this unit, we were surprised of the performance of this powerful 800 watt heating element (800 watts is the correct wattage for all 110V United States units, and 1100 watts is the correct wattage for the 230V European units.) Rancilio sales literature, which was intended for the European market, does not state the wattage for the 110V units, but the actual units do).
  • UL APPROVED.
  1. Currently no instruction manual included on the new model.
  2. Silvia's no longer have the 3-Hole Tip. Rancilio has done away with them and will not be making the tips separately either. They said their testing revealed that the 1-hole tip performs better given the boiler size.
  3. To make satisfactory espresso, this unit should be warmed up with the portafilter handle in the head for at least 20 minutes.
  4. Some Rancilio Miss Silvia espresso machines "may" have a white film on the drip tray that can be peeled off upon arrival.
  5. Awareness statement: Many folks have purchased this espresso machine due to its popularity on the Internet. Just because it is popular does not mean it is for everyone. Keep in mind, espresso extraction is like cooking - meaning proper technique, ingredients, and tools are required. If your fondness is for exceptional espresso, you will not achieve it on the Rancilio Silvia without a very good grinder (generally costs $200 or more in price) or with pre-ground coffee. The Silvia is not only particular in the grind fineness, but also the consistency of the fine grind that is placed into the filter basket.
  6. Although Rancilio manufacturers a quality product, Rancilio requires the retailer or distributor to handle the warranty repair. Therefore, when shopping competitively, you should ask who will be handling the warranty work on your machine (is it a third unknown party or an internet only company with less than 10 years experience?), Ask how long they have been providing service on espresso machines, and look on their web site for parts availability!
  7. We name the current Silvia V5 because this is our way to determine our Silvia customers who have a different grouphead and boiler type when compared to the original version, version 2 and version 3 of the Silvia prior to 2007. Please note that Rancilio has been shipping the new version 4 for a few months before our change to our web site on 05/14/2014. To confirm the new boiler type, please check the inside of your machine.
  8. Many prospective buyers of the Silvia read a lot of information about it online - only to get scared that it is considered 'finicky'. Finicky can be described to two elements - grind fineness and temperature. If the grind is not right, the Silvia will produce a bad espresso - even when this grind works on other machines. Ths is why we made the statement above about purchasing a good quality grinder. With regards to the temperature, the Rancilio Miss Silvia needs to be heated properly as it has a lot of brass. All this brass makes it more temperature stable than machines with aluminum or stainless steel boilers. However, there are posts around the Internet that state it is not as stable. Please note that these claims are based on comparisons to higher priced machines which are more stable or to units that have PID controllers. If this was not true, then 1st-line Equipment would have never sold thousands of Rancilio Silvias over the last 9 years (written on March 8, 2008).
  9. 1st-line Equipment recommends cleaning and descaling the Rancilio Silvia at least once every month in order to keep it in optimal working condition.
  10. The safety thermostat on the Rancilio Silvia will NOT automatically shut off the machine if it is accidentally left on for long periods of time. The thermostat was designed to protect the machine from exploding or melting down. Turn off the machine when not in use in order to avoid damaging the boiler.
  11. PID (Proportional, Integral, Derivative) is currently not an option at 1st-line Equipment. The reason is due to product liability in the event that the PID fails or causes damage. We recommend that you purchase the PID aftermarket. However, you should inquire aftermarket vendors about product liability insurance.
  12. If you experience any leaks with your steam wand you may need to replace the gasket and o-rings. Visit this page for technical support and the parts you will need.
  13. If you have a Version 2 or older Silvia and are in need of a new steam tip, please note that Rancilio does not sell the single hole tip as an individual item. You would need to buy the entire version 2 steam wand or upgrade to the version 3 steam wand. In these cases, we do offer our own customized 3 hole tips in chromed brass and brass.

"14 years later - still making great expresso"

Review: Just how many household appliances do you have that still run after 14 years? Your dishwasher? Refrigerator? Quality seems like a bygone substance today, with throw-away-don't-fix-them products. But my Rancilio Silvia, pruchased from 1st-Line in July 2002 still makes outstandingly great espresso every morning. And why shouldn't it? The thing is built like a tank - it is heavy and simple to operate. It looks great on any countertop and cleans up like a charm. Not that I haven't abused it, either.... More details

Review: I have V3 with a Rocky grinder. Both are built like a tank and pretty much everything is owner serviceable so after a decade of use and a few minor parts replacements, they continue to make outstanding coffee. 1st line has an excellent parts and service team.

"Outstanding Service Department that's there no matter how long it's been since you bought something"

Review: I've had my V2 since around 2000 and the two times it's had a problem, most recently in 2015, they've always replied promptly, with detailed instructions, that saved me plenty of money in spare parts I didn't need to replace. This is outstanding. Even Apple doesn't give service this good. What's amazing is that the Silvia is still making great espresso after all these years. I found 1st line after having several premium machines fail after 2-3 years with no way to fix them. The Silvia is designe... More details

Review: I've owned my Rancilio Sylvia for well over ten years. I researched many machines, and this appeared to be the best bang for the buck back then. It probably still is. The only problem I had with it was due to my own stupidity. I, in error, left it on steam mode for hours. The next time I tried to use it, the water wouldn't warm up, because the machine had over-heated. I thought my mistake would require me to take it to a service center. But, after a little web searching, I realized that all I ha... More details

"Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine"

Review: After 14 months of pouring over product reviews, consumer testimonials, and highly energized caffeine blogs, I purchased a Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine(v3). The time spent was well worth it because this is a well-built machine that produces excellent and consistent shots. For a low maintenance, small footprint, home machine, the Miss Silvia is a great choice. After using a Breville 800ESXL for a few years, it took me 4 weeks of tweaking my process to get the shots and foam correct. The Miss ... More details

Review: I purchased my Rancilio Silvia from 1st-Line in July 2002 and nearly 12 years later, it is still turning out great espresso every morning. In the twelve years, I have replaced the power cord, the steam knob and the portafilter handle, maybe a total of $50 in parts. Oh, I forgot, I replaced the rubber gaskets once, as well. I would guess, in the twelve years, this machine has been on all but maybe 45 days due to vacations and trips out of towns. How many cups of espresso? It has to be over 8,000!... More details

Review: I've had my Silvia for about 12 years, and it consistently makes fine espressos and cappuccinos year in and year out. Nothing bells and whistles, just good solid workmanship, sturdy materials, and, after a little practice, you can use it without thinking.

Review: These days it's fashionable to bash the Rancilio Silvia. It's not "accurate" enough without a PID, it doesn't sport a sexy Faema E61 Group-head, it is a plain-Jane single boiler design. All true but all meaningless. I have used a Silvia Version 1 since 2000, making excellent espresso and cappuccino daily without any significant issues. Having recently "upgraded" to a fancy dual boiler high-end machine, I am frankly going to miss my Silvia and wonder if I won't end up evolving backward. Silvia re... More details
