Q&A.

  • Q1. I enjoy making cappuccinos, typically one or two at a time. I go for a more traditional 5-6 oz size with some dry foam. How do you think the Europiccola stacks up with steaming vs. the Professional model? Do the think the Europiccola model would do a satisfactory job doing microfoam for a small amount of milk (e.g., 3-4 oz at a time)?
A1. Both machines have the same pressure and steam tip. The only difference is the Pro model can do more beverages - usually around 5-6 capps before shutting down and refilling.

  • Q2. Can you think of any advantage to having the pressure gauge on the Professional model? Since the Europiccola model also has a pressurestat, it would seem like there really isn't much advantage to having the gauge with the Professional.
A2. The pressure gauge on the Professional allows one to hone in on the right steam pressure which allows more repeatable results for extraction - this is for espresso fanataics. The heating light on the Euopiccola can also be used by timing how many seconds you extract before the light goes on or off. (We appreciate that you do not call our office about this as this is very technical information that our sales reps normally cann ot answer). You can search on 'espresso machine temperature surfing' for more information.
  • Q3. In reading about the La Pavoni levers, it seems that they require a very fine grind. How do you think the Vario would do with this range of grind?
A3. Yes, the La Pavoni lever models do require a consistent, fine grind, and your typical $150 or lower priced grinders usually can grind fine enough, but not consistent enough. The Vario grinder by Baratza can do the job as of this writing (10/11/2010)
